Tapes are popular because they're cheap for DIY labels to assemble at home, produce, and ship, easily playable, even on the go, less fragile than records, infinitely customizable, and, when played in a good setup, quite satisfactory in audio quality. They can be stored compactly, broken cases can be replaced easily (no uniquely-printed jacket to moan over), and they also appeal to the limited-run/rarity factor that drives a lot of vinyl interest. Tapes also make weird/wonky/ambient/treated loops music sound delightful! I just got my copies from a limited run of C50s my German friend did, and they sound much better than any Crosley through my $15 thrift-store deck!
Excited for Cassette Store Day :D
"wheelchair-bound fan proves they're disabled" [sic] or seated fans prove they're sitting in wheelchairs?
guess who's blowing it out of proportion, stereogum.
oblivion: sure, but add together near-identical guitar tone (probably both strats, knowing both gutiarists), reverb, rhythmic feel, etc, and you've got more than just coincidence. out of tens of thousands of songs in my music library, rarely do i find such definite correlation except between a band's demo and final product.
great group – reminds of groups like early His Name is Alive, Summer Hours, and Slowdive at times. afraid Holy Page sold out of the tapes a while ago, but other distros might have a copy. they've got another LP out as well, also worth peeping.
not exactly the style of music that inspires me to political protest. hoping the radio dept. do drop a killer new album after this half-handed wank of a track
I attended Flow Festival in Helsinki – those of us up front at any show were the dedicated ones who showed up early. The only security in the venue controlled the stage area, allowing on press photographers in the 15-foot section between the barrier and the stage. Truly a delightful experience, to see anyone from Skrillex to Slint at the front of the crowd.
"Christoph and Anton Hochheim are probably best known for their involvement in Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, and to a much lesser extent the now defunct shoegaze/chiptune group Depreciation Guild"
I highly doubt it — Christoph was only a touring member with TPOBPAH, while both he and Anton were deeply connected to the DG fanbase. Anyway, we all just want the Guild to come back anyway...
hehe internet, you turn up the funniest things. "rockism..." you do know that the association of music with instruments far predates the birth of rock and roll?
heck, Polachek has made herself into a highly sought-after collaborator beyond her incredible albums with Chairlift. just look at her work with Washed Out, Violens, Ice Choir, Phoenix, etc.
haha i love the deep exploration of the couple's emotional relationship in the article. "He liked her music and would go to her shows. He had the biggest crush on her."
without the wedding ring, that just sounds stalker-y :D
