Boots Riley is a gaslighter genocide apologist PoS and fuck everyone who praises him tbh. I also keep thinking about how cringe Merrill was for the "I'm taking a white guilt class" narrative for her last record.
Not that I'm unaware that Tom's reviews are usually fully complacent to the popular discourse of any given time, but those lines coming from a middle-aged white dude about an album who isn't even that bad is pretty cringy, especially because LDR's dumb statements aren't even that problematic to begin with. I'm not a LDR fan by any means and I don't like her music or persona generally aside from a few tracks, but my God am I tired of people not letting other people have opinions, ever, and that affecting the way their work is evaluated in the real world. This is becoming just as tiresome and logically bankrupt as shit religious moralists believe. I don't mean to whine about cancel culture or whatever because that's lame and dumb and missing the point, but I think we should be more worried about the way that we're normalizing authoritarian attitudes instead of bitching about some shit LDR tweeted one random day.
In my home state in Venezuela, our very corrupt governor frequently uses most of the incoming energy to power his blockchain. We don't have power for hours at a time on any given day. What's the opposite of a flex?
Burn in hell fucking 90's has-been edgelord.
Ariel Pink is a dirtbag abuser and no, the fucking Boss is not worse than him. Why is this even up for debate?
Wait I replied to this before realizing this is sarcasm and this is also the dude who called himself a commie on the last Phoebe thread. You people are hilarious!
Well to be fair, twitter libs are pretty cringey but not as cringey as genocide-defending communists.
Ah yes, why does anyone dare not think of the privileged white women? Truly a travesty.
I am not with Crosby here, because it's a cheap guitar and theatrics are okay and why is this even relevant anyway? That being said, Phoebe Bridger's music is trash besides a song or two. Emo was always a bad idea and I don't understand why anyone wants to revive it.
Radiohead is SEVERELY overrated and you have shitty opinions.
I've been going over Weezer's discography lately and... to be completely honest, Make Believe and the Red album are the only honestly awful albums (and even the latter has at least one amazing song!). These guys have been so unfairly treated by the music industry (both commercially and critically) and Rivers is a once-in-a-generation genius. P.D: Please revisit Everything Will Be Alright in the End. It is truly on par with Blue Album/Pinkerton.
I mean he has always told us who he is, I don't think this is surprising.
Oh look, if it isn't the same song she's been putting out since 2011 with variantly diminishing returns.
no body no crime is the only bad song on the album, the rest is A+.
I didn't assume shit, I ride for Taylor even though she's annoying sometimes. There's absolutely no lie in saying Taylor's moves are calculated and thought-out, but I don't think that's really a negative because as a pop star, it's kind of necessary with the title. What I'm saying is, I think she's truly following her muse and making some risky moves while leaving behind some of that "pop star" appeal and rules that you would usually follow, and as big as an artist as she is, that shit earns my respect. I don't care if she's a billionaire, or the daughter of a broker, or whatever, those things are completely irrelevant to the fact that she wrote and released a good album. Gold Rush IS too harmonically clever for a top 40 pop album and I don't think it is elitist to say that. You're incorrectly assuming that I think diatonic music is inferior or less interesting. I'm only saying that modulating keys and using weird as hell chords in the big chorus for your song is not a move you see... ever? in the music that is most popular at any given moment.
Does anybody remember one of Azealia Bank's numerous insane twitter meltdowns where, while attempting to re-jumpstart her career by singing in spanish, she said that she fucked Shia LaBeouf and he told her "twigs' pussy was trash"? I somehow just assumed some shady shit had transpired there but I didn't imagine it was this awful...
I never thought I'd see the day where the words "this needed more antonoff" would be something I'd agree with.
It hasn't been out for more than 20 minutes so stop hating on our enjoyment without even listening my dude
I'm listening to it. It's less than a pop album than Folklore so far, it seems like she's going down an interesting direction. She is officially convincing me that she's doing this out of following her muse than just appealing to the decimated indie demographic. Gold Rush in particular is too harmonically clever for a top 40 pop album.
Very interesting how y'all will jump over any pop diva making generic, bland disco-influenced drivel but say "marketing no good bwaaah" when an artist decides to actually do something cool and away from the current zeitgeist, AND then have the audacity to complain that the alternative sites only cover pop artists and not enough riskeé music.
Fair point, but I think you might be biased on this one. Music for the masses in 2020 is some Lil Uzi Vert shit, or 100 gecs or idk what the kids are listening to these days. A 30 year old white woman making the type of music that was culturally significant about 15 years ago is hardly a money-grabbing move. If anything, I think what she's doing is punk as fuck. How many of us wish we could stop pretending WAP as any merit whatsoever and just worry about the music we actually like? Additionally, if you think folklore is really that far away from Bon Iver's last two albums aesthetically, you have not listened to folklore.
Nuanced take: I really don't think it's that big of a deal that they're playing the censored version, but I also think Mr. Cave here isn't being an edgelord or willfully oblivious of the offense the word causes. I think it's probably healthy to raise some questions in regards to what should/shouldn't be acceptable when it comes to past work that can be contextualized differently in modern times.
I just find it hilarious how both republicans and the very loud but ultimately miniscule section of Marx-rhetoric-loving college graduates are basically the same in the way they want to control every moral aspect of pop culture. Where my normal people at?
The same can be said about most pop artists though? No one is really arguing that Billie is the best out there, but she does make interesting pop music with a particular aesthetic that resonates with younger generations. Are you going to complain that rock music sucks because it's not jazz?
Upvote for funny but hey you shut your mouth and don't you say nothing about Two Against Nature, that is a fine ass record!
Christina Aguilera is definitely a very talented person who deserves musician recognition. Lots of it. She's quite the artist. However, even as a latino, I'd still argue JLo is really meh in about everything she does.
I don't find this sketch funny at all, but getting offended by it or bringing EndSARS to it is a gigantic hot take. The true mystery here is: why is it always white people and/or people who claim to be "a quarter Ugandan" or whatever always the ones who get offended and not the actual people this is supposedly "making fun of"? Americans really be out there believing their particular brand of morals and humor is not only more valid but supersedes that of an entire world. Get a fucking grip, you're not woke, you're just an egomaniac.
Making wild accusations is not an opinion and calling you on it is not a personal attack. Focus your energy somewhere else.
That is... some solid logic (sarcasm). You're the one who is making an accusation based on absolutely no verifiable information other than your own opinion. I am merely telling you about the public information we all have, which is the only thing to go by, really... You're saying someone is a "major creep" based on absolutely nothing and throwing opinions like they're facts and then you get argumentative when they're questioned? Even if tomorrow there'd be some huge Me-Too on Longstreth, your comments as they stand today are still pretty lame and unwarranted.
Do you personally know them? I have no idea how else you could possibly know this information.
"Over the weekend, the controversy-avoidant and all-around-good guy Diplo." Is this sarcastic? I thought Diplo was generally agreed upon to be an immense douchebag.
Uhhhh... Unless I am terribly wrong, the only female collaborator he has been romantically involved with has been Amber... really don't know where you got "develop romantic relationships with most of his female collaborators" from. DP is also very clearly his own project that he collabs with people on and that's always been the case, and as far as I know, Amber stated in interviews that she asked Dave specifically to produce her album... I think I've mentioned it a couple of times, but Dave being lame about his breakup isn't really an indication of his character and I feel like DP's output, even though it has stayed consistent in quality, has suffered because people just went with this "yup he's a creep" narrative based on like, an extremely biased Pitchfork review or something...

Accidental upvote. That album is hot trash
