I think I might become obsessed with this band. I've already warned my irl friends that I might start spontaneously spamming the group chat about them. This shit is so good.
Huge supporter of this band, my enthusiasm for them being based solely of their batshit and beautiful performance for the gum zoom party.
Never listened to Xiu Xiu before, i think maybe cause i saw them open for Swans one time and I left that show early cause I thought Swans was terrible that night, even though I had seen them before and loved it. I guess I associated them in my mind and never listened. This is great though.
I absolutely *loved* this project back around the time Nikki Nack was released and still listen to a couple of those tracks from back then. But for some reason I lost the plot withTune-Yards and haven't listened to a single song since that album I don't think. This is really excellent though, the chorus is feels so timeless and smooth over the funky and jittery backdrop. Makes me truly really excited for a new album from them, which is not something I thought I'd think!
How’s that Typhoon album? I remember being pretty hype for their previous one, but eventually feeling like it didn’t quite move me like I thought it might.
Wanna give a shoutout to Dazy, a band Tom blogged about on Friday: https://www.stereogum.com/2114009/stream-dazys-extremely-catchy-lo-fi-power-pop-ep-revolving-door/music/ I've hardly stopped listening since Friday. It's a tiny 6 minute EP, but the hooks are damn near enough to sustain a 30 minute LP. I went back and listened to their earlier A/B singles from 2020 and they're all just as damn good as this EP. I'm loving "Firecracker," "Passing Ways," "Wind Me Up," "In My Dreams," and "Accelerate" especially. If they were to just bundle up the EPs and singles all together and sell it as a record, I'd snatch it up without a second thought, it's that good.
Going to shows alone for a band you love is usually far superior to going with a friend, even a very good one, who is only lukewarm on the music. Then you can geek out and feel no need to entertain them or worry about them enjoying it.
At The Moonbase is really great. I gotta backtrack to listen to the previous albums, cause the new one is right up my alley.
i've done a thorough scan of various comment threads and have determined that cody is ready to be able to go to shows again.
If you're gonna get Sampha to sing background I guess you've gotta make sure you bring your A game. Fell under this one's spell, awesome.
I loved Mr. Brightside and a few other singles, but before Imploding The Mirage I was basically Killers agnostic, disinterested. Imploding The Mirage is that good tho.
For anybody interested, the new Slaughter Beach, Dog record is VERY indie-sax, and Jake Ewald's writing and vocals often remind me of a more emo, more confessional Destroyer. REALLY good album that got lost at the end last year for many, I think.
...apparently there are still scars from the ken era for some...
Bartees Strange is now on every song, very cool thing to see.
Yeah I don’t need any stylistic change for it. Just let Adam play some guitar instead of just keys, I’ll be happy as a clam.
hopscotch all over the discography - once you've appreciated Kaputt and Rubies, you can probably take in the more challenging or weirder releases imo
yeah such a good read - Kaputt stands on its own without knowing its predecessors and successors, but seeing it all laid out like this really demonstrates how masterful it is.
They got a non-staff writer for it 😂 😂 😂
