It really feels like a sea change: white boomers saying “BLACK LIVES MATTER,” major media calling police brutality what it is, masses of money flowing from previously disengaged people toward things like bail funds, mutual aid networks, and pretty radical advocacy orgs. It’s so important not to let our feet off the pedal. Keep it up everybody and don’t let complacency take you. Keep funneling that money toward such worthy orgs, and stay out in the streets demanding the change.

I actually realized after I hit “SUBMIT” that this might have been mildly denigrating to the gum and for that I apologize but it’s still a good post

Yet another enormous new music week. Westerman is truly the sophistipop prince who was promised and Rolling Blackouts CF are truly the rightful guitar kings. Love these two albums, plus RTJ, a great music week.

I have a hard time really *caring* about their scores anymore, but really it’s just deeply strange.

Bruce Hornsby posting a video of people going crazy at a police brutality and BLM protest to the all-time classic rap song that samples his breakout solo hit, I absolute love to see that.

Looking at those statements I have *no* idea how those dudes can be in a band together. How the hell.

Re: the rest of the week.... The Rolling Blackouts album is absolutely top shelf. It’s without a doubt an improvement on their first, and it is legitimately so exciting to me to imagine the heights this band might achieve. Westerman is so immaculately put together and melodic. It’s *extremely* easy to listen to, and you can tell on first listen that it will reward a ton of repeated listening. I’m especially struck by the space in the album, and how that space works in very pop structured tunes. Really great.

The thrill of listening to this album yesterday. The thrill of only being able to listen up to “Walking In The Snow” before I had to start eLear I got with my students. The absolute thrill of picking it right back up again as soon as I was done. These dudes are absolutely locked in here, and you can just tell they’re firing on all cylinders across the entire thing.

I desperately want to have some friends over for a game night, or a dinner party, or any sort of low-key gathering, and throw this album onto the record player :/ All signs point to it being perfect for that casual setting and for close listening.
