Antanoff is so goddamn insufferable. Regardless of how well informed he thinks his whiny bitch opinions are, I wish he’d take his own advice and shut the fuck up.
Hey that’s actually one of their songs that I don’t mind as much. There’s a couple. Even a broken clock is right twice a day ;) That said, haven’t felt the want or need to listen to it since it came out *shrug*
Apples and oranges! FJM has released four impeccable, interesting, unique albums and Big Thief has released four albums full of songs that are boring as all fuck. I’m all for using my pattern recognition skills to jump to conclusions.
(For the record, I didn’t send us down this rabbit hole again, kww75 did)
I listened to “Funny Girl” once and I’m only listening to this one once as well. His stuff always sounds better in the context of the album so I’ll wait for that to form an opinion.
Do I need a hug? Yes, I sure do, but does have anything to do with four dirty hipsters and the vanilla indie rock that they make? No, it surely does not.
Thank you so much! Honestly, I didn’t do it for the money, but it means the world to me when someone spends their hard earned money on my music, and even more so that they take the time to listen being that time is our most valuable resource. I’ll always remember you, cheers!
Honestly I’d just want Frusciante to sing. His solo stuff and his backing vocals show he’s fully capable. This would also likely open up more bass and drum sections in the music for Flea and Chad to shine even brighter than they already do.
Frusciante is one of my favorite guitarists, unfortunately there is no fucking way I can listen to 17 songs of Keidis’ stupid inept bullshit. He’s the absolute worst.
I bet there’s a video of Swift and Albarn laughing it up on the phone with Swift saying it’s perfectly fine if he uses her as an example as a talentless snake.
At one point or another I’ve tried every album of theirs multiple times, both upon release and years later. They have some songs I don’t hate but it’s just middle-of-the-road background music to me. As you mentioned, I just don’t get the massive, gigantic amounts of hype that’s piled into their every move.
Speaking of being a little late, a few days ago ApacheSlomo and I published our 50 Best Albums of 2021. The more I look at it, the more proud I become:

My dad has played banjo at varying frequencies for my entire life. What I’m saying is, time to start a hardcore band with my dad.
(Really would like to know what song(s) they use banjo in so I can show him…)
GEL is super underrated. Not for nothing, they made mine and ApacheSlomo’s 50 Best Albums of 2021 list. A lot of good hardcore on there:

Wow, I’ve had “One Step Inside…” on a random playlist for years and still had no idea this album was anniversary-article worthy. I guess I’ll check the rest out.
I’ve been in the top 0.05% of Destroyer listeners on Spotify the last two years, might break into the 0.005% this year with a new album.
Also, new Destroyer and FJM in the span of a few weeks?? Life is good.
I don’t know about a proper list, but Haunted Visions by Pledge is absolutely my favorite and the best of the year in my opinion. The rest of my list would have:
Regional Justice Center
Supine
Koma
Closer
Through Dying Eyes
GEL
Gilded Age
Filth Is Eternal
Cerce
Militarie Gun
Full of Hell
And of course, Portrayal of Guilt.
I’ve listened to it quite regularly since it was released in January so I guess I’m not hearing what you’re hearing. Monch over live instruments is a thrill to me, he has some great bars and great singing parts throughout.
