Wreckless Eric tested positive for COVID-19 back in April but is apparently doing much better now. He and wife Amy Rigby just released this topical number via Bandcamp. If you need a new anthem, look no farther. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC8RhqO7YOs

Admire is one thing. Many of us do the same without trying to pass ourselves off as singers. David Byrne's vocals were whitebread to the core. The Pat Boone of new wave with zero sense of humor. The boy was a bit miffed at the Fools over "Psycho Chicken."

It's not mostly in the southern states. I live in the northeast and we are overrun with such dopes. Uppity Yankee bigotry makes them blame those darn hillbillies for everything.

Is that somehow worse than worshipping music? And it's not just men in Southern California who looked up t Kobe Bryant, but also men, women, and children throughout the world. He was one of the best ever at his chosen profession. He was also a fantastic human being who did wonderful things for many people. In fact, I'm 100% certain that he accomplished more in his brief time on this planet than any of his holier-than-thou critics will in their entire lives. And please don't brand me a Kobe worshipper because I don't watch the NBA at all. I just know jealousy and mean-spiritedness when I see it.

Sexism is about discrimination. Period. Springsteen's description refers to the feelings conveyed in Lana's music. Men and women, or boys and girls, both have those feelings and there is nothing wrong with it. Again, sexism is about discrimination. Who is he discriminating against? Be specific.

For sure. As I remember it, we weren't out looking for one-night stands. We wanted to find a romance that would last beyond the summer. Which explains why most of us (come on, admit it) always went home alone. We overthought everything. I blame me never having a girlfriend on the music. Except for in 1971 when I was 13. "Just My Imagination." "I Feel the Earth." "Treat Her Like a Lady." "Beginnings." The soundtrack to a lifechanging spring/summer. And then she moved away.

Sexism has to do with discrimination. Where is the possible discrimination in Springsteen's quote? Explain. And banging sweaty broads? My friends and I didn't use terms like that even as teenagers. What made you think of that?

August 17, 2020 on Bruce Springsteen Calls Lana Del Rey “Simply One Of The Best Songwriters In The Country”
Sexism is defined as discrimination based on gender. There's no discrimination inferred in Springsteen's quote at all. He's referencing a youthful desire to meet girls, which for most guys was not just about sex. Girls, according to my wife, have those same thoughts. It's summertime and the weekend is here. Let's go out and try to meet some guys. Why do you automatically jump to "banging sweaty broads?" It seems like maybe you're the one with funny ideas about women. So who's really being sexist here? Hint: take a look in the mirror.

Those memories have been a major theme in his music, right up to and including 'Western Stars.' It's a reason why many people are attracted to his music.

Lighten up. He's talking about young people looking for romance in the summertime. There's nothing sexist about boys being attracted to girls. Do you think it's sexist when girls speak that way about boys?

No big deal because she is not a comedian by trade. She deserves credit for stepping outside her comfort zone. Had she never done that, she wouldn't be the pop star we now know. Take chances, and don't worry about what the jealous critics might say or write.

Simon, you are forgetting that the other side is looking ahead with those same characteristics. Never overlook the power of fear and racism in a U.S. election. Those "We Support Our Local Police" signs are springing up for a reason. Many white people want to be protected from what they see as a violent movement. And there might be more of them than you realize.

August 7, 2020 on Kanye West Implies His GOP-Backed Campaign Is Intended To Hurt Biden
You are giving the public too much credit. Outside of Biden being Obama's VP, most people have no idea what Biden stands for. This includes Biden himself, who is doing whatever he thinks will gain votes. Increased police funding? This is what he now says. Let's not forget how everyone thought Gore, Kerry and Hillary Clinton would win. Weak candidates all, as is Joe Biden. People have a right to be suspicious of why he's kept such a low profile (excluding the gaffes on the few occasions where he has emerged).

August 7, 2020 on Kanye West Implies His GOP-Backed Campaign Is Intended To Hurt Biden
The Democrats have a history of losing elections they're supposed to win. They don't need Kanye's help to screw this up. Meanwhile, the typical American voter still knows nothing about Joe Biden outside of his clueless sound bites. In the U.S. news media, it's all-Trump all of the time. Just like it was in 2016. I hate Trump but am prepared for the worst. This looks like Al Gore, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton all over again. Nevermind that some will say Gore "won." It shouldn't have been that close in the first place.

August 4, 2020 on Twitter Confirms Talib Kweli Suspended For Harassment
He claims he has never cyber harassed anyone, yet stalked this woman on Twitter for 12 straight hours. What is his definition of cyber harassment if it's not that? His fans will defend him because, well, they're his fans. But if Lana Dey Rey or some teenaged indie rocker did this, these same people would take great delight in slamming her or him. Selective anger based on music fandom. Yuck.

NFR is about 18-20 minutes too long. Delete four songs, chop 5-6 minutes off "Venice Bitch," and tighten up some other tracks and you've got a fine pop album. In some ways, that '60s mentality of keeping songs short so they can fit onto the radio is a huge positive. There's an art to saying what needs to be said in the shortest amount of time.

It's what we're seeing during the pandemic: independent artists trying to keep it going and make a little money at a time when live shows are non-existent. Remember, their world is not our world. It must be tough having a calendar’s worth of live dates wiped out and not knowing when your livelihood will resume. While we’d all like to see the utmost quality control in the music we purchase, that might not always be possible at this time. Perhaps the answer is being less critical of the actual music and lovingly support our favorite artists when new stuff becomes available. Don’t deride their efforts. Who cares if it’s not the best thing they’ve ever done? Just purchase the songs, maybe even kick in a couple of extra bucks, and write a brief note to express your gratitude and give their psyche a boost. The Daniel Eks of the world are seemingly intent on bleeding these artists dry. That makes it our job to provide encouragement so the music we love doesn’t disappear. Especially now when these folks are sitting at home with their careers on hold.

I like 'Price of Tea' and look forward to hearing this one. But we need to back off on calling any album a "masterpiece" so soon after its release. True masterpieces are few and far between and take a significant amount of time to properly assess. There are many albums that I love from recent years. But I'm not ready to call any of them masterpieces quite yet.
