Can i just say Day & Age is actually really good and gloriously strange for a follow up to Sam’s Town and I kind of sort of hope that they lean into that gaudy psychedelic sound again...even though I am sure it would piss a lot of people off.

August 24, 2020 on The Killers Say They’ll Release Another Album In “About 10 Months”
The album is legitimately good and the howling anguished vocals really sum up how i feel pretty much every waking day. feel like ambient music fans are one of the most spoiled listeners around considering how absurdly prolific most of these artists are. It’s like an entire genre full of Pollards.

August 24, 2020 on William Basinski – “O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow”
Saw xiu xiu live last year and Thor is really the best drummer I have ever heard in my life. He also shook everyone’s hands that wanted to and is an absolute sweetheart. The bassist for the Swans was also playing for this show and it just made me wish that Jamie Stewart took over Swans.

August 20, 2020 on Thor & Friends – “Dies In Paris” (Feat. Bill Callahan)
He reminds me of Jens Lekman and that’s always a great thing to be reminded of. Fell off my radar after his first album which blew my teenage mind away at the time and I’m still all about kitschy crooner pop.

Cut Copy’s Haiku From Zero is a near perfect synth pop album and they are one of the only bands from their era still putting out tremendous records.

We should absolutely figure these things out and only a heartless lunatic would say otherwise. Priorities and patience could go a long way and thinking outside of the capitalist smiling death box could possibly help too. We should keep trying to be kind and patient with each other. I will log off because I don’t want to constantly be “whining” or combative towards anyone. Sorry friends :(

August 14, 2020 on Here’s What A Concert At The UK’s New Socially Distanced Venue Is Really Like
There are plenty of other ways to support artists and I really think musicians should take a page of Of Montreal’s kaleidoscopic notebook and turn to something like Patreon to help get some more income they desperately need. The government should be making sure artists can survive with funding instead of the police and military. And no the chances of being harmed by Covid in a protest are probably worse than these corporate events, but I would think risking your life to show solidarity with the human collective could provide a cleaner conscious rather than risking your life for restaurants and entertainment.

Not trying to say she’s less of an artist from coming from wealth just mainly when you want to chose artists to make a political statement maybe have them reflect more of actual America. I am a whiner that’s what I do and you are a dog and you bully, but we could be so much more.

Privilege* but maybe there’s some kind of insufferable twaddle about lemmings being pro ledge Or something. Everything sucks.

Fraid I’m going to have to side with Joe on this one. This is good and all for the few thousand people with enough disposable income to throw around but it all seems kind of tasteless. If we could all agree that 2020 was going to be a “lost gap year” and lived with governments we could trust and support each other that would be one thing. The only reason I would want to go into a large social gathering is for a Peaceful protest or some kind of volunteer work that helps all the endless amounts of people suffering right now. Instead capitalism wants business and society at large to go back to a normal that only benefits the wealthy and pro ledge at all costs and it seems like we’re all mostly complacent in this (myself included even though I have always been something of a friendless loser So quarantine hasn’t been so hard for me)

Plus there’s the whole rich privilege plugged into the industry since birth aspect that party politicians seem to really respond to, whereas Lil Nas X is a better illustration of the American Dream. :/ none of this is going to make a difference unless the whole debates take place on fortnite.

Is Billie Eilish actually ravenously adored by her peers or is she being constantly poached by older big wigs trying to seem hip? Lil Nas X maybe would have actually gotten the attention because he brings memes wherever he goes.

Maybe this isn’t the place but it also feels pretty weird that this bloated frog man decided to name his solo musical output under the name of a Korean boxer. Maybe I’m being too sensitive but it feels pretty gross and Kozelek should get some serious help, pay some excruciating legal fines and court mandated community service for a good while...but I don’t know how we as a society should deal with rapists and shitty men because kozelek seems like the biggest lost cause there ever was.

August 13, 2020 on Three Women Accuse Mark Kozelek Of Sexual Misconduct
Hmm Okay Mr. Cave appreciate your thoughtful but also kind of valid response. My main concern is that do you think we’ll ever get Grinderman 3? Cave’s lyrics have mostly matured and evolved a good deal from his 90s output and besides Papa Won’t Leave You Henry I don’t think he’s been actively pursuing controversy for controversy’s sake. I think the main problem here is that one person’s definition of cancel culture is going to be different from an overly plugged in millennials, or a sexual/emotional assault survivor, or the devil may care youth. I don’t think this phrase means anything anymore and most likely probably never has. If a person is violating human rights and is endangering the lives and emotional wellbeing of others they should get some kind of multifaceted intervention. No criminal is ever cured by throwing them in jail. No harasser is ever going to change their ways by engaging in internet arguments. There is no one solution for all of society’s ailments.
