I'm sure the eye patch was calculated to evoke the memory of Dale Chihuly's Jerusalem ice wall.

It's a weird sounding mix. At first I thought this is one of those times I just need to turn it up louder, but no, that just exposes different strangeness. I think the *song* is good, and could be a beast live. Gonna try and keep an open mind until hearing the rest of the album. Sometimes weird/shitty sounding albums still manage to connect. Loads of '80s punk and metal albums sound like ass, but that doesn't stop me from loving some of them.

The state-by-state nature of legalization makes this kind of celebrity product functionally exclusive to California. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the growers don't want to go to the trouble of making Jenny Lewis Weed™ available in every state they could. That would mean getting licenses, setting up grows, and developing packaging that complies with the different laws in each state. Would have tried the Sigur Ros weed for the lulz, but it never made it to WA afaik. I did see some weed up here that was marketed as being tangentially related to Snoop Dogg, but he's a much bigger name, so maybe they thought the marketing was worth it?

Because sunshine, like the high it produces is ineffable. He just wrote this big song about it, yet still feels like it will never be enough to convey what he feels. His joy is profoundly lonely. There's the Leonard Cohen line: "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." John Denver flips the script. It's the cracks in his 'Sunshine' that expose a gaping existential void of never truly knowing anyone.

Craig Finn would sing about a drug store cowgirl who's afraid of being bored, wouldn't he?

Charly is gud. This is gonna sound weird, but: Charly Bliss made the record Death Cab wanted to make but couldn't. It feels like big, '80s teen (early 20s, tbh) emotions, but without the worst parts of '80s production. It has the benefit of knowing and loving both '90s indie/alternative and '80s pop. Maybe it's just the Barsuk connection fucking with my head, but the rhyming structure on much of the album reminds me of Gibbard's more economical moments. CB are still young enough to be exuberant without making me yell "DAD, NO."

Enzyme cleaner is pretty decent for removing organic stains. Failing that: Rest up, then rent one of those steam cleaning machines from the grocery/hardware store. Get the special soap for it, but don't use too much.

It is scary, but some progress is being made at the state level. WA managed to pass a couple ballot initiatives (waiting periods, raising the age for buying semi-auto rifles to 21, closing background check loopholes). It's small, but it's a start. There may be people doing similar work in your state.
