If they do this shit at Riot Fest and not Fest, that is really dumb. I am not planning to see Eve 6 at Fest, but if they did a full OPIV set? Hell yeah I would check that out.
Nah, dude. I got a free ticket and I felt like I paid too much. Raptor is spot-on with his comments. Plus, Turnstile only gets 25 minutes.
I went to the Jacksonville stop on Sunday, just to see Turnstile. Tom, you hit the nail on the head with the vibe-- it was crazy with juggalo-esque teens and early 20-somethings. Turnstile was great (of course), but, yeah, they arent meant to for an ampitheatre where they are 5 feet above the crowd's head and 10 feet removed from the pit; the sound was horrible and none of the crowd were into them. It was a huge bummer, honestly. But, not because of Turnstile.
Yo Tom, big shout out because the only reason I even know of this band is because of your post last year about their debut album. That album was CRIMINALLY slept on— it was one of the 2 or 3 best rock records of 2020 and is fucking rad. Can’t wait to hear this new song.
Yo great recommendation. Thanks.
LOVE Angel Du$t and will support anything they do, and Justice Tripp is legitimately the best and most entertaining frontman of any band in the punk, hardcore, metal, etc scene. Dude is downright sassy on stage and it’s so awesome. That said, I’m just really not a fan of their turn to Lemonheads-core. Can’t hate on them for expanding the genre and doing their own thing, but I just don’t dig this as much.
Two of my favorite bands, covering one of my absolute stone cold top 5 favorite songs of all time. But…you really can’t improve the original. This is still cool and good, I just don’t think anything can beat GBV’a original.
I get the gist of what you’re asking. No, they are NOTHING like the Armed. Check out the Move Thru Me EP and if that doesn’t do it for you, then probably pass.
I LOVE Red Dress! I have never even heard another person reference it, let alone say they like it. I love this.
“ wanted to come with, you know, some of the grimiest but flyest shit I could come up with…” So basically it’s a contrast between the sacred and the propane is what Little Carmine here is saying.
Buddy, if you like Turnstile, then you are going to need Slope and Mindz Eye (the true Blue EP) in your life NOW! Also, you'd probably dig: Mindofrce- Excalibur, the live record thing on Spotify, and the Swinging Swords EP rule Angel Du$t- Rock the Fuck On.. End Game- Demo and that new split Anxious- Short EP an dthey have a new record soon Also, the One Scene Unity and Americas Hardcore Vol 5 compliations that just came out have tons of cool shit on them.
TURNSTILE IS THE GODDAMN BEST!!! Also, i say this every time, but, Tom, you helped me discover them back when, via an Angel Du$t post for Rock the Fuck On..., and I am literally so thankful for that. I love this band, their music, and their energy.
She has said that it was to cover up old tattoos and also that the insane pain of having that done helped her clear her mind in the early parts of her transition (I think, dont quote me 100% on that last part-- i definitely seem to recall reading it somehwere).
I genuinely think it speaks highly of him and his music that the "heavy music" faction of the 'gum commentariat seems to love him.
Legit surprised you didnt like Cutting Grass. I was only a mild fan but those two records really sold me.
Yeah, not sure how anyone could be cynical about Sturgill. Even more surprised that the 'gum writer who regularly stans for awful, vacuous pop music and musicians on the regular would even raise that point here, but whatever...
Man, Band of Horses’ first 1.5 albums were amazing. Not sure how or why they went bland-ass forgettable, but it’s a bummer.
Man, i love seeing this comment. I remembered downloading the original off of Napster and was fucking OBSESSED with it. Then i heard they were recording with a live band and I thought it would be even better. It was, uh, not. Still love both records, though.
It's funny you say that. I saw them at a free Atlanta show the summer this came out. They played Lapdance and another song TWICE in a 30 minute set, because the corwd wasnt feeling the other songs. It was kind of sad, because I loved that album at the time.
Is the version on Spotify different than the vinyl? I don’t see Citizen, Mindforce, Terror, or Sunami on the Spotify version…?
I unfortunately got roped into attending this tour recently. Thankfully the people I went with also wanted to skip Weezer and Fall Out Boy, but, man, Green Day fucking suuuuuuuuuuuuucks and is super embarassing live. They played an earnest cover of "Rock N Roll all Night" and it was super fucking lame.
Not many people know that "Old" was originally t titled "What's My Age Again?"
I discovered these guys a few years ago when they came through my city as openers for someone else- don’t remember who. But, yeah, Honduras is rad. Check ‘em out!!
The conundrum is whether or not to jack Anton off?
I had both CDs, Hangin Tough and Epic, and loved them both. I was in 5th grade. The late 80s were weird
I have seen him a few times, including with his wife, because my buddy loves them and always has a free ticket. Can't say I am a fan at all (in fact I kind of hate his music, honestly) but dude is SO talented that I got nothing but respect for him and he really seems like a truly downto earth great guy from what i can tell.
I don't want to sound corny, but as I only dabble in metal and harder stuff, finding a band you have not heard, and also enjoy, is a big score for me! Happy Friday!
This band is cool as shit. But, sorry to go off topic, but i just discovered Universally Estranged and I think the 'Gum fans of heavy music would dig them. To me, it's like Blood Incantation with shorter songs. Super rad and I thought you guys might dig them and really wanted to share it because it's fucking awesome.
As someone who listens to tons of all Turnstile records every week, I sort of concur.
LOL, "if i listened to the EP". Dude, i have played that like easily 100 times since it came out.
This is like when Andre released "The Love Below": I can't hate it, or be mad, because they're doing what they want to do, on their own terms, and I am such a fan, I will never "hate" anything they do. But. this aint what I come to Turnstile for. It isn't a "bad song" (it's actually really prettty), but, shit, man. Kick out the jams.
It's so rad to see them taking off, and doing it on their own terms, where they mix the hardest, bounciest shit in the world with their own weird-o art. Fuckin rules so hard.
Yeah, fuck them. That Time + Space review was fucking lazy bullshit.
T.L.C. was my pump-up song for max bench press last week and (humble brag) I nailed 275 lbs. Those drums get me so hyped!!!
Can we get a story on Kanye’s mask(s?!) situation please.
Yeah, it's unfortunate someone as cool as LJG is making this tepid of a joke. Why not throw in some quip about the pee tape, too?
