Matt Pike has been responsible for some great song titles in his day. "Alien Slut Mum" is not one of them.
I feel like that should be "70 Favorite Songs" instead of "Favorite 70 Songs"? This concludes this Headline Grammar Police interlude. As you were.
I do. Although "Message In a Bottle" should be on it.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but anyway: Iron Maiden - "The Parchment" James McMurtry - "Canola Fields" The Dirty Nil - "Blunt Force Concussion" Dodsrit - "The Third Door" Mare Cognitum - "Luminous Accretion" TWIABP - "Infinite Josh" The Hold Steady - "Lanyards" Arm's Length - "Gallows Humour" Rick Hyde ft. Benny the Butcher - "Glorious Mourning" Tigers Jaw - "Cat's Cradle" Middle Kids - "Cellophane (Brain)" DMX ft. Westside, Benny & Conway - "Hood Blues" TOPS - "Party Again" Church Girls - "Basement" DJ Muggs & Flee Lord - "45 In My Pocket" Georgia Harmer - "Headrush" You can hear all of these (and many more!) on my handy 2021 playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7bqThfPrBKGrAXebcTXl7g?si=9f76f1d34ec34f9a
Crossover thrash to experimental jazz with all kinds of detours in between. Gotta love it.
I didn't read any music books this year, but I did put Stephen Deusner's Drive-By Truckers book on my Christmas list, and am very much looking forward to it.
Now THAT's a list. I mean, just look at that 31-40 section. Do we have good taste or what>
I'm sorry, but THIS is Scott's anthem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGly4PSj0Og
Glad to see the 1914 album on someone else's list, I'd never gotten into them before this, but I feel like that album was engineered in a lab specifically to appeal to me.
Or a bunch of sheep.
TNoB is comfortably my least favourite ATG album since they reformed. Not that I don't like it, I just like the other two better. Different strokes (er, riffs?) for different folks and all that!
Pretty sure the Ethereal Shroud album just came out today. Or at least that's when it showed up on Spotify (in Canada, at least). I'm listening to it right now. It good.
I'm going to assume that's Anti-God Hand, although Webster's defines Gid as "a disease especially of sheep caused by the larva of a tapeworm in the brain", which is also pretty metal.
A few things here I'm not familiar with, but judging by that #1, you obviously have impeccable taste.
Yup, I'm adding that one to my list too.
I mean, have you HEARD the original cast recording of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers?
(I admittedly haven't listened to that album yet. I have a feeling it won't really be in my wheelhouse. I will get to it though, I promise!)
I need to spend some more time with Hushed & Grim, my initial reaction was the same as the Rev's above, "this thing is a mess", and that's as far as I got. Hopefully I can carve out a "kill the lights and break out the good headphones" session (in my spare time LOL)
My parents HOPED I would grow out of this shit. Sorry, Mom & Dad!
I have a sneaking suspicion you're a fan of Bolt Thrower and Power Trip.
I liked a lot of these albums too.
FWIW you're definitely not the only one who's missing it. Not my thing either, too chaotic for my tastes. Glad other people are enjoying it - I gave it a shot, it's not for me, I'm quite happy to listen to, oh, let's say Senjutsu (just to a give a totally random example) again instead.
Never heard of Anti God Hand, but on (admittedly brief) first listen it definitely sounds promising.
I don't think I've actually heard the album, but if I had to pick a favourite album title of the year, I think Seven Evils Spawned From Seven Heads would probably be it
Excellent list. Chock full of spudly goodness.
Christfucker? I barely know her! I mean, am I right?
Glad to see some love for Spectral Lore, even though I have no idea how to actually type the album title and have to copy-paste it every time I want to put it on a list.
Jebus would definitely approve of this list.
Ha ha, well hopefully my stanning hasn't been too over the top, but yeah, I love it (obviously). Not reinventing the wheel by any means, they're just really, REALLY good at what they do. There's a reason why they've been my favourite band for 35+ years.
I think you'll find that most of the Black Market staff (Mr. Nelson notwithstanding) have never been Deafheaven fans to begin with. Not to mention that their new one is decidedly not a metal album. (I think I've already made my feelings about Infinite Granite clear enough by this point, so I'll restrain myself from going any further).
Iron Maiden ticket secured, now I only have to wait 10 months until the show. I'll be able to pass at least some of that time listening to my favourite metal albums of 2021: 1. Iron Maiden - Senjutsu 2. Dodsrit - Mortal Coil 3. Mare Cognitum - Solar Paroxysm 4. Panopticon - And Again Into The Light 5. Enforced - Kill Grid 6. Spectral Lore - Ετερόφωτος 7. Рожь - ВЕЧНОЕ 8. Paranorm - Empyrean 9. 1914 - Where Fear and Weapons Meet 10. Spectral Wound - A Diabolic Thirst 11. Cannibal Corpse - Violence Unimagined
Iron Maiden - Senjutsu Iron Maiden - "The Parchment" And I just bought a ticket to see Iron Maiden. What a coincidence!
Best-sounding, yes, and also maybe his best? Hard to say with a discography as excellent and extensive as McMurtry's, but it's certainly up there.
OK, if you say so, I'll slot it into your list at #4 to match mine :)
Well, then you SHOULD make a list of your top metal albums of the year!
Shout out to the lobster for a great list (and also to the lobster I had for dinner on Saturday).
+666 to you for Senjutsu - I was hopeful that at least one other commenter would have it on their list, and here it is (and in the top 10 no less)!
Very sorry to hear about your brother, condolences to you and your family - I lost a younger brother a few years ago as well, and music was instrumental in helping me get through through it, glad to hear it did the same for you.
