I saw them on the Lonerism tour and though I wouldn’t say it was boring, they did sound pretty much exactly like the records, and no audience interaction. So yeah, not great live.

Brittany has said that Nina Simone is one of her primary influences, and it’s just uncanny how she channels her on this song.

She’s in the music business! She should have some basic knowledge!! I’ll bet she couldn’t even come up with a 10 best Glenn Miller Orchestra jams with a gun to her head.

“Robots should not be taking over the world”. Just the idea that someone in 2019 is even making this comment is horrifying to me. “Should”? How about “no way that will ever fucking happen”

It is a truly inspirational story, especially the part where Nebuchadnezzar finds humility and declares himself the greatest artist God ever created.

November 21, 2019 on Here Are More Details On Kanye West’s Opera Nebuchadnezzar
My introduction to Coldplay was reading about Chris Kattan going on and on about how great Yellow is. This was around the time when the stink of A Night At The Roxbury was still lingering, and masochistically I was still watched SNL on a regular basis, so I’d endured far too many (ie/ more than none) Mango sketches. So I was instantly biased against the band. I came around a bit a few years later when my girlfriend got Rush of Blood - I liked a few things on there and the odd single since, but I can’t ever imagine them being completely cringe-free for me.

I doubt Beck would get the kind of production he was looking for. He wanted the Windowlicker sound, but that song is an outlier in Aphex’ catalogue - I read somewhere that Richard made it as an experiment to see if he could do something more dancey / poppy than usual, and then he was done with it. I was obsessed with that song when I first heard it and methodically went through every Richard track I could find, looking for another one like it, but there isn’t one. It was worth it though because I discovered so much other amazing music.

One more thing - I found a portable 8-track player at a garage sale once with an insanely cool selection of tapes, which was bizarre because as far as I knew, cool people did not own 8-track players. I bought them all for a quarter each - Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain, Kraftwerk’s 1st LP (which is so rare it’s not even on Apple or Spotify), weird art-rock stuff I’d never heard of. They lasted about 2 years before they started disintegrating, one by one. Painful.

November 20, 2019 on New Thee Oh Sees Box Set Collects 12 Albums On Reconditioned 8-Track Tapes
So ridiculous you have to love it. My Dad had an 8-track player in his car, and because albums were divided exactly into 4 blocks (to fill the 4 stereo channels) the music would suddenly fade out mid-song, then fade back in once the channel switched over. Frustrating when that happened right in the middle of yet another glorious John Denver chorus.
