September 23, 2019 on The Number Ones: Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr.’s “You Don’t Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show)”
It’s actually “I’ve looked on a lot of women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times.” which I guess is his version of openly talking about boning.

I’d say Jimmy Buffet. Same watered down Grateful Dead thing at his shows and songs that pretty much no one but his actual fans even recognize.

Prince was a vegan, but I’m not convinced that was for any reason other than that he wanted to eat pancakes and popcorn all the time.

Surprised no-one’s commented on how there’s not one, not two, but three creepy clowns in that photo.

Wait I’m not sure how I feel about this, is she saying Tiffany W. stole a snack or the whole damn meal?

This song belongs to an ever worse category of awful - it didn’t even crack the top 40 in the U.S., but went to number 1 in over a dozen countries (12 weeks in Quebec!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFacWGBJ_cs

Upvoted because I narrowly avoided the unbearable humiliation you must be feeling right now.

The Cars were more formative for me as a music fan than I realized until now. The first “concert” I saw was a bunch of councillors at my first year of summer camp air-banding. They called themselves The Checkers, dressed in black and white and lip-synched Cars and Cheap Trick songs. It blew my 10-year-old mind, all those great songs and the audience freaking out.

I love PC&L, but I’d taped from someone and Leave Me Alone got cut off. So I’d never even heard the song until the Destroyer version. Listening to the original was a total holy shit moment, hearing one of the best songs by one of my favourite bands for the first time.

I read somewhere that “Everest” was considered as the name for Abbey Road or its possible followup, so made a playlist named that - I don’t remember the exact track listing, but it went something like this: Imagine (take 1) My Sweet Lord Every Night If Not For You Jealous Guy Dear Boy Hold On Isn’t It A Pity Another Day Love Junk I Live For You Maybe I’m Amazed Instant Karma! Ram On Behind That Locked Door Isolation Remember It Don’t Come Easy Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Oh Yoko! The Lovely Linda Oh My Love All This Must Pass (demo)

Very exciting. Irresistable Bitch is one of his best b-sides but the version included here is probably the original Feel U Up/Irresitsbke Bitch medley, and it’s even better.

“contains a certain word” is one way to put it. I think of it as the “rape interlude”, too bad cause it ruins what’s maybe his best unreleased track.

September 9, 2019 on Turnover – “Much After Feeling” Video & “Plant Sugar”
I took my kids to Medieval Times and was surprised by the sketchy, hesher, not really kid-friendly vibe, and left wondering how people even end up doing that kind of job - I guess they’re horse people? Just a couple days ago a friend told me about this rundown warehouse he lived in when he used to DJ. Across the hall lived a metal band who they mostly steered clear of. An out-of-town friend visited one weekend and wandered over, ended up partying with them and came back to announce he’d just smoked crack. The band was called Hammerthumb and yes, you guessed it, they paid the rent as jousters for Medieval Times.

It’s funny that up until now the only time Nils was officially a member of Crazy Horse was the only time Neil Young wasn’t - on their 1971 self-titled record. It’s got some great swampy blues rock, but the standout is Danny Whitten’s “I Don’t Want To Talk About It”, a song as achingly beautiful as anything Neil ever wrote - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOsyLT8ljqk

It’s fitting that Stetson’s doing horror soundtracks - the sax was banned by the pope a few decades after it was invented for being profane. There’s a doc from a few years ago called The Devil’s Horn about it, Stestson is featured.
