"I love how this towering Voltron of trap-rave-era rap and EDM now qualifies as girl group music." It's amazing, isn't it? Although there's plenty of girl groups that still have that traditional sound, especially among K-pop groups. Speaking of K-pop, this new song from Stray Kids has been on repeat, I especially love the bugged out music video for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQTlCHxyuu8

Unless they release two EP's before the full album, it's not the same.

"Prince’s perfect 1984 power ballad" Real shame this never debuted at number one because we would have known which score Tom would have given it.

Can't wait for that write up. When I think of sappy 80's love ballads that is THE song I think of first.

Thanks for the write up. I love "Nasty Girl" and the album they dropped was pretty good. Shame we can't stream it right now. I'm also glad that they went with the name Vanity instead of the original name Prince wanted to give Denise, which was Vagina.

Sometimes I'll forget she's a great dancer and then I'll see videos like "Bare Wit Me" and I'm like "Oh yeah, how could I forget that." Can't wait for this.

Yeah, they should have changed it a long time ago, but better late than never. Don't really listen to their music, but I'll say I do like "Need You Now."

I was too young for his original album run in the 90's, so I'm imagining that this is the equivalent of going through his albums and hearing brilliant stuff like "Bop Gun" and "Check Yo Self" and then hearing stuff like "Black Korea" and "Cave Bitch."

Such a great song. And the next two months(October-November of 1982) was such a great time for soul music, with Prince, MJ and Marvin Gaye releasing their classics.

It's still insane to me that "Don’t Stop Believin" peaked at number 9. Considering how that song is everywhere, even today, you would think it would have reached number 1.

Thank you for this write-up, Bix. I love reading stories of people going to Prince concerts/discovering him for the first time. "Controversy" is an absolute 10/10 for me. And speaking of his eyes and how he draws you in, he did the same thing with the "Controversy" music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gazNwzC4H0 "Let's Work" is another classic for me. And genesis behind this song is interesting: http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Let%27s_Work Bix, do you remember the dance called "The Rock" back in 1979?

Not really. He tends to save those kind of songs for his actual album. The closest is "Chicago Freestyle" and that's more due to Giveon's part than Drake's.
