November 12, 2018 on Ennio Morricone Denies Saying Quentin Tarantino Is An Unoriginal Cretin Whose Movies Are Trash [Updated]
YBB don’t even talk to me until you go to the restaurant “Melt” in downtown Columbus, OH, where everything is made into a grilled cheese, around this time of year and you have their seasonal “Thanksgiving Dinner Grilled Cheese” but substitute the turkey for seitan. You haven’t experienced true vegetarian joy until you experience that. I’m perfectly down with the fake meat esp bc beans are such a damn rarity here unless they are soy beans or sweet beans that are intended for desserts or sweets. I’d give anything to be able to easily find Latin style black beans in my local supermarket instead of having to go to Tokyo to find them. ~_~ ❤️ Bless

CupcakKe! Quay Dash! This new Tommy Genesis album is amazing don’t miss out! Kendrick is obviously important. I liked the new Asap Rocky album minus the really unfortunate Kodak feature. I’ve been listening to a lot of Japanese hip hop as of late, and I highly recommend at least the first half of the album “FORTUNE GRAND” by this producer named KM. Especially the cuts that feature Weny Dacillo. Here’s my fave: ❤️ Bless

Quiz is one of the best songs of this year Dangled and Typo were two other highlights for me! :) The use of the r word in “Garfield” was regrettable though, especially on al album which also has a song about autism. But other than that moment her hot streak continues :) I feel like she’s the millennial/Gen Z Missy Elliot. :) ❤️ Bless

Best day of my twitter life so far was when Katie Dey followed me back 😍 she recently made a post about wanting to follow other trans artists so I put myself out there and she followed back! Also it helped introduce me to a bunch of other trans artists so my music taste instantly improved haha. So many cool independent trans women and nonbinary people making amazing music y’all. Don’t miss out. Literally no one else is doing what these girls are doing and I’m constantly in awe of everything they put out. :) the single is great can’t wait to hear the rest! ❤️ Bless

Good on her. Repubs shouldn’t be able to simultaneously chide famous figures who support progressive policies and their “New York California Hollywood Coastal Liberal Elite” values while using their artistic output and cultural relevancy to promote themselves and their agenda. Literally, they should just soundtrack their rallies with “Bawitdaba” and “Cat Scratch Fever” and that rapper, Whiteboy. See how far that gets them. ❤️ Bless

November 4, 2018 on Ariana Grande – “thank u, next”
Meditated on this further, and like damn what a good role model she is for girls. This past week, I called my mom and she told me for the I swear 15th time that she’s leaving her emotionally manipulative (to put it kindly) husband, only to post on Facebook yesterday that she’s back with him. It’s like this pattern that she keeps going back to, continuously perpetuating dysfunction that she bore witness to with her parents’ and her relatives’ relationships. This has happened with like the past 3 people she was with as well. Emotional manipulation (if not also abuse), with guys who shit talk all their exes and blame all of their problems and shortcoming on them, taking no responsibility for themselves, their relationship, or their mental health and placing that burden at the hands of the women in their life. Women, especially from older generations, who felt an immense pressure to get married and start families, often with men much older than themselves who sought relationships with teenage or barely adult girls (Not my mom specifically, but so many women in her parents generation who had impressions on her). Women who were then expected to just submit to the will of these men bc the Bible and their church and all the men and women in their lives told them that this is what you’re supposed to do to have a happy life. Pressured to go into every relationship expecting marriage to result. Blaming themselves if the relationship goes wrong. Being hateful and resentful towards past people they’ve dated (sometimes rightfully, but sometimes bc it’s just what’s expected, and like besides the men do it too.) She didn’t have an Ariana Grande to tell her that it’s natural and normal for a relationship to end which needs to end. She didn’t have an Ariana Grande to show her that what’s important is that you learn something about yourself and why this relationship didn’t work, and not to just internalize and fall back into the same patterns with a similar guy. She didn’t have an Ariana Grande showing that there is more to life than resentment and codependent relationships. She didn’t have an Ariana Grande telling her she’s worthy of love and that the relationship she has with herself is perhaps the most important one of all. The media she had as an impressionable child didn’t allow her to see beyond the dysfunction and abuse she witnessed and experienced as a child and young adult. It’s been hard for me bc as my mom’s child, it’s inappropriate for me to be her therapist or relationship counselor, especially when I’ve never had a successful relationship myself (partly due to watching how all of her relationships have played out), and especially when her relationships have an effect on my life in some ways as her child. But it’s like her support network outside of me is unstable or ineffective a lot of the time. Married childhood friends who shut her out when she’s single or facing relationship problems, bc their husbands are afraid a single woman will make them cheat, or bc they think her “drama” is contagious. Churchgoing friends who can only offer her biblical advice about “sticking with the marriage even when it’s tough, bc it’s what god wants for you to do.” Except when they say “tough” they mean “toxic.” And she’s afraid of being honest and open with an actual therapist, bc she’s afraid of mental health stigma and also her traumas are really severe and painful to confront. So she’s been using me instead of a therapist since I was like 9 yrs old to now to process all of the trauma she’s endured and to work through all of her relationship problems, and reading Christian self help books. And it’s like the complex and the anxiety has been passed down to me. Fortunately I’ve made lots of friends in healthy relationships, and I’m learning from her mistakes, even if I am existentially terrified at the prospect of entering into a relationship even though I really want that for myself. Plus internalized transphobia and homophobia. But I’m never going to put any of this on my kids (if I have them) like she did to me. I’m stopping the cycle. This is a really roundabout way of saying that I realize that artists giving examples like this can’t solve everything or save every impressionable girl in this situation. But damn she has legions of young girls and gays who hang on to every word she says, and it makes me so hopeful that she’s giving them such good life and relationship advice through songs like this and the way she carries herself. That has to be such a hard thing to do on her part, dealing with all this painful shit in the public eye. But I’m so glad that the generation z versions of girls like my mom can at least look at one of the biggest pop stars of their generation and see a model for healthy relationships, setting boundaries, leaving toxic relationships, self love/care/affirmation especially in the face of trauma, and growing as a person through each tribulation, if they don’t have someone in their lives showing them that. I admire her so much because of this. ❤️ Bless

Valid. I didn’t mean it in the sense that I think this news is fake. I think it’s very real, but just in the sense that there is a subsection of his fans who will doubt the validity of this or just straight up dismiss it bc they stan him so hard that they don’t care what he did. But if my using that as shorthand inadvertently gave credence to that term being used to invalidate the work of journalists, I acknowledge that, and I apologize. My bad. ❤️ Bless

October 24, 2018 on XXXTentacion Confesses To Domestic Abuse & Stabbing Nine People In Secret Recording
The discourse around his life, the violence he perpetuated, and his death have just been straight up bad. It’s just been a tragedy all around. Is it too much to ask that his “legacy” be reconciled with the horrible things he did to this woman, that gay man, and these other people he was violent towards, and not have those facts just swept under the rug? Is it also too much to ask that, while none of what he endured as a child excuses violence he perpetuated as an adult, we consider that what he endured as a child was something that no child should ever have to endure, and that in terms of our betterment as a society learning from the tragedy that was his life and death, we consider the ways that institutional racism, child abuse, domestic violence, hard drug abuse, and the school to prison pipeline make stories like these way more common than they should be? Is it too much to ask his fans to understand that they can enjoy his music and view him as an avatar of like the angst of this young generation that has so much shit going against them, while also being aware of the fact that the violence he perpetuated was real and inexcusable, regardless of what “good deeds” they thought he did in the aftermath of all of that up until his death? The anti feminist and anti woman attitudes he espoused were so harmful, given the violence and harassment that so many women face in their daily lives from cat callers, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence and childhood sexual abuse among other forms of violence. That point stands, and in no way is invalidated by what his music meant to anyone. It is time that women and girls who are victims of violence are heard, especially after a history of not being believed by the world around them. Is it too much to ask the white voices who have rightfully come down hard on him and the way he has been covered in the media and the way young people carelessly idolize him to also reflect on abusers in other genres especially in past decades who committed acts of sexual and physical violence against women or pursued inappropriate relationships with teenage girls who have been idolized, including many famous and idolized white rock stars and indie darlings from yore? And to also carefully consider the potentially racially coded language and attitudes we are using when talking about these issues? Like when he was alive and some people here called for him to be publically hanged (either intentionally or unintentionally who knows) evoking imagery of lynching of black people? And to carefully consider whether one’s feelings about this story are coming from a place of genuine concern for the safety and autonomy of (primarily black) women or out of animus for a historically black culture and scene you don’t identify with or understand? Are you making generalizations? Are your concerns pointed, clear, and specific, and are you centering and uplifting the voices of those most affected by misogyny and homophobia in the hip hop world, namely black women and black queer people? And are you holding your own idols and scenes and subcultures with which you are more closely involved to these same standards, and calling out perpetrators in those communities with the same vigor that you are calling out him? Conversations about him stress me out, and this is like the last thing I want to say about him bc the fact that he admitted to this in private while dragging this woman through court and never atoning for his wrongs is horrible, the fact that he has fans (some of them so young and impressionable) who will ignore this information as irrelevant or fake news is horrible, and the fact there are white people who will so quickly criticize him but won’t put in energy to contextualizing and challenging the violence against women and inappropriate sexual relationships with young teenage girls by the likes of people like Lennon and Bowie and many others is also horrible. And then the fact that greedy record companies are just going to continue cashing in on his recordings and cult of personality to make shitloads of money without thinking about his victims is horrible. And the fact that certain media (not naming any, but the ones who do this know who they are) won’t do the work of contextualizing all of this for their readers, caring mostly about clicks and ad revenue is horrible. All of it is horrible. ❤️ Bless
