i love cancel culture. it's lead to some people being held accountable for being shitty for the first time in their lives. of course nick cave doesn't like it, it wrestles power away from him.

the “reply guy” dig seems totally unwarranted.

yeah, i definitely separate the boombox era and studio era into early and late periods. but i like your take!

my advice: just run with your instinct and go hard into _the sunset tree_, it's one of their best late-period albums. it's got "this year" on it, but it's not JUST "this year," ya dig? advice #2 is go waaaay back. if you can tolerate the lo-fi boombox period, _all hail west texas_ is an astonishingly great record. it's not the catchiest of their early stuff, but it hits hard. for a slightly less aggressively lo-fi and more varied experience, _the coroner's gambit_ would make a great entry point (it was mine).

they should really think about changing their name before they release an album

i only discovered the original last year (thanks to a roches mix on spotify by robert pollard, of all people!) and ended up buying three of their records the next day. cool stuff. i don't know when i'm gonna get a chance to hear this cover because i'm obsessing over the original again...

“The A in their name stands for Antebellum and always will. If they are truly committed to racial equality, why do they want to maintain that association, especially when it means making a public, intentional stand to disregard me and my rights?” spot on.

yes, very good. likewise, that does not prevent me from pointing out why catalam is wrong; it’s not making the art “toothless” if the artists didn't want it to have teeth in the first place. also, it’s braver (“toothier,” if you will) to do the right thing instead of safely and blandly maintaining the status quo (catalam and stevezissa style)

your privilege is showing. but here goes: 1. it doesn't really matter, it’s just album titles/art, let ‘em change ‘em if they want. who cares? (besides you) 2. it will be one less micro-aggression someone might have to deal with in their lifetime, and there’s nothing wrong with that. 3. this IS anco being woke “going forward,” and it totally vibes with your brilliant solution. if something you did in the past bugs you and you can change it, shit... change it.
