If February jam "Slide" didn't win in an apparent landslide, I'd demand a runoff. It's still Carly Rae, damnit. Carley should have tacked that monster of a song as the last song on "Emotion" and released it as the lead single. It'd be an outlier on the album, but it's too good to relegate to the soundtrack of an August animation film that no one will see except desperate parents. I'm going to listen to the song again and mutter to myself.

No, you do not have to like the artist to enjoy their music, unless their personality is inseparable from their music, lyrics, etc. I cannot stand Pink the person, but "pom pom" remains a top-ten album of this decade. I'll leave it to John Maus---who apparently has an album coming out!---to psychoanalyze him.

Is there a more needlessly distracting term than "Bernie Bro?" Pay attention to the politics, not an undesirable segment of supporters who will exist for any political candidate.

Well, I thought the future would be cooler too. Now most people sigh and sit at the docks of the Pirate Bay. Not too long ago, millions of individuals believed that flying cars would be a reality. Nixon proposed an universal basic income---what we must work toward now and not not later--- forty-five years ago. Surprise, it turned out that those with the most powerful servers wished to use them for their own, exploitative end. It's difficult to wade---let alone immerse---in these waters without cynicism, so you might as well turn them into pop songs. In any event, I'm glad a band is tackling the topics they are and there is no way to do it subtly. Not only is the future insufficient, but it's also kind of shitty. Big fan of Claire, I looked forward to her book, and there's a strong possibility I might click on that YACHT-related "Recommended for You" link after I click submit.

Likely AOTY still, regardless of this site's bias toward anything resembling the artsy. She also released US tour dates! Nowhere near me, but I'm happy for the other people!

Please don't post an article about Grimes's tweets, Stereogum. These Pitchfork-fostered "beefs" are getting old.

Wow, this premature evaluation leads off with an extended Tyson Chandler metaphor. Awesome; Jackwhiteesque. Hopefully the Walkmen don't join their hometown Knicks, then. Can't wait to spin this.

Probably inevitable, but all the same: why does this video need to exist? It's not saying anything substantial about race, class, gender, et al. It does not---and in a sense cannot due to the limitations of a music video (albeit a ten-mute one)---say much beyond it's pat conclusion of cyclical generational violence. All of these aforementioned themes (race, class, etc.) are treated in a grab-bag fashion and since the video's raison d'être is to ostensibly promote the new Spiritualized single and therefore the new Spiritualized album, it's probably not the video's business to try and start a conversation about race, class, sexuality, et al, if it cannot lend weight to each theme within ten minutes and with no dialogue. What we're left with is a well-made piece of entertainment that entertains off the back of, yeah, some pretty serious issues.
