Oh man, I know this surgery can be fairly risky, so I'm hoping it goes well for Lindsey and she fully recovers. Always frightening news for someone who makes a living with their voice.
Yup-- I have some easily triggered tinnitus from a prior job and recently began wearing ear plugs at every show, regardless. Honestly, really cuts out a lot of the bullshit noise and really improved taking in the music.
Oh yes, how could we all forget how good the state of things in this country were before March of 2020? Incredible how every bad thing to have ever happened since was a direct result of actions taken then and in the few months proceeding. I imagine countries that are even still imposing strict quarantines and still providing emergency financial assistance must be utterly wracked with violence, and lord knows their policing organizations must be crumbling under the hordes!
It's really only ad hominem if you're referring to yourself as moronic for making the statement, as it's pretty clear I'm directing my comment towards the substantive nature of your words. This middle of the bell curve guy suggests you brush up on your Latin!
Too many guns, too much poverty. The society we subsist in in the United States seems solely to exist in the service of capital, profit, and preserving our ability to inflict extreme violence upon one another.
As a New Yorker, this is all well and good, but there are still thousands of people in New York jails and prisons who are serving sentences for marijuana and drug convictions that no longer criminal with legalization.
I was extremely fortunate to score a last-minute ticket to see Adrianne play last Monday. If you still haven't bought into the hype around Big Thief, see them as a group, or Adrianne or Buck play. They are incredible musicians and beautiful people operating at heights that only keep rising. I have the privilege of time and disposable income to see a lot of live music, but I have never experienced a performance as revelatory as watching Adrianne pick and sing. I have a video of the crowd singing along to "anything", which she played again while harmonizing to the room. I had tears in my eyes.
Very excited for this album, very excited for their tour. The future is bright.
If fate and fortune deliver me unto their presence that Thursday in December, I will put in a good word for the fans of Los Angeles and greater Orange County and direct them to your home for a delicious meal and a couch to crash on!
Reading the headline I was worried this was going to be at the studio and that there would be potentially dozens of victims made out of performing artists and staff. Horrendous, predatory behavior. Fuck that creep.
Jack! Excellent write up, you captured the funk that this project has developed over the past decade perfectly. I was also sixteen when it came out and it similarly accented the awkwardness and emotional hypersensitivity I felt at that age, which experience and time thankfully smoothed out.
The incessant corniness of Gambino's style and writing on Camp make it personally unlistenable to me now, but I respect it still for the place it once held in my young heart. Donald Glover has more than earned forgiveness for his early musical missteps.
I would absolutely love some stickers, I plaster them everywhere and on everything. I don't wear too many t-shirts, but I enjoy buying my younger brother merch from bands I see (I regret not getting him a "MANNEQUIN PUSSY" shirt a few weeks ago) so he will be getting some 'Gum swag!
Also this is not a dig at the 'Gum and it's fine staff, but outfits such as my local regional newspaper that serves 300,000 people and every cable news outlet in the country that reported this and every cop's press release as firsthand fact.
It's truly incredible how little the merits of this story were interrogated when first reported. Not only would said perpetrator want to randomly inject people with heroin/fentanyl, a ridiculous proposition if you know even the slightest thing about drug use, but in a massive crowd where it was so impossible to move that people died due to being crushed, that said perpetrator would have the freedom of movement to not only select random victims in a wide area, but that they were capable of finding a vein! It truly seems like a large number of journalists exist only to report what comes out of cops mouths, on the basis of...what exactly, their sparkling track record of truth-telling?
I wish either my busted headphone jack wasn't or that I could sit still in the position where the stereo isn't fucked up long enough to listen to this song uninterrupted.
I'm completely obsessed with this. I listened to the rest of their songs and I also get a lot of Fleet Foxes, and beans mentioned the Young Jesus vibes. It's ridiculous how much good music I feel like I'm coming across today, you ever have a day like that? Some days I feel so lucky just to be alive, with a brain and ears.
Wow, twenty times?? This tour is gonna be my first opportunity!
Their track record is so good I think they could do a fully acoustic album and it would still be masterful.
Seeing the words "eighteen tracks" literally made my heart flutter, I don't remember the last time I was this excited! Who's gonna wait until February to listen to the whole thing? I'm not sure if I have the self control...
