I love "Dancing Queen" so much that I actually teared up reading Tom's review.
Both "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "Old Fashioned Love Song" deserve higher than a 6/10.
"Feelin' Stronger Every Day" is pretty damn tight as well.
I'm just here to celebrate the fact that "What Have I Done To Deserve This" is a 10! Tom really is the coolest.
"Afternoon Delight" is no better than a 3 and we all know it.
Speaking of disco songs that ripped off "Black is Black", check out 5000 Volts "I'm on Fire" from 1975. https://youtu.be/eye0mXrl_Po?t=4
Oops, sorry. Wrong album, HaHa. "Monster" has sold 2,882,408 copies.
I just looked it up in SoundScan. "Automatic For the People" has sold exactly 3,551,467 copies.
God bless you for reminding me of The Leftovers.
This was the official single version of "Try Me, I Know We Can Make It" and it really is the one that works the best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO8dEVv5YC0
But I totally agree with these grades. "Disco Lady" is a 7, "Dream On" is a 10, and "Golden Years is a 10. Nothing to argue with here!
I just went to Taylor's Instagram and see lots of review quotes but not one from Tom. Am I missing it or was it removed?
I'm just here to applaud the 10/10 awarded to Donna Summer's "Love To Love You, Baby."
For those of us who were teenagers when "Love Rollercoaster" came out, the song is a perfect 10.
I've always like "Fly Robin Fly". Is it really inferior to "Get Up and Boogie", though?
Oh God yes, SWEET! I can't tell you how much it thrills me that both "Fox On the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" both received a 10/10 score because I totally agree!
A couple of correction's to the Bonus Beats section: 1) In NO WAY does the Mae West version qualify as "disco." 2) Vitamin C is not singing in that clip. She's simply lip syncing a sped-up version of the original, with remix instrumentation added.
As soon as I saw that "Shining Star" was today's #1, my very first thought was "Will Elaine's dance be in the Bonus Beats?"
"I"m Not in Love" is a straight-up 10. No question about it. One of the greatest songs of all time!
I'm sorry, but there is literally no universe where "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" is considered superior to "Imagine."
Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes "The Love I Lost" is a stone-cold disco CLASSIC, as is their "Bad Luck."
There is no universe where Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" is better than Paul McCartney's "Band on the Run."
Wait a minute.... Grand Funk's cover of "The Loco-Motion" is only a 6 but Kylie Minogue's version is a 7? TOM WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?
The review brings up "Disco Inferno" by the Trammps but neglects to inform you that it's a 10.
I'm more upset that Tom only gave "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs a 6! It's at least an 8, possibly a 9.
The Brothers Johnson were mentioned in this review and it should have been pointed out that their "Strawberry Letter 23" is a 10.
And by the way, Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You" is most certainly NOT a 3. I'd give it at least a 7.
Marvin Gaye has recorded a lot of songs that were 10's, but "Trouble Man" is most definitely not one of them.
If you look up Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" on Wikipedia, a radio guy out of Atlanta single-handedly turned that song into a hit in the early 90's, two years after the song was first released. We need more that these days.
Oh my God, I love it so much. I agree with the 9/10 rating for the song, but the bridge is a 10 ---- it's one of the most orgasmic things ever included in a pop song.
"Brandy" is one of the all-time great guilty pleasures. No way Breihan trashes it.
Oh good Lord, "Superstar" is a straight-up 10. No doubt about it.
The multiple instances of incorrect grammar always bugged me when this song was popular. Of course these days, almost every song is a disaster on that level. But here's what Michael sang: "If you should ever find someone new I know he better be good to you 'Cause if he doesn't I'll be there" That drives me crazy. But this one kills me as well: "Just call my name, I'll be there Just look over your shoulders honey, ooh!" It's not "shoulders."
Let me give a shout-out to Jermaine Jackson's single with Devo, "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy", which is a 9 in my book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXnC5ubVBD0
