he's literally in the film business. if any accusation is warranted, I'd say that he's overly familiar with critical consensus and proceeds accordingly. like, he watched Drive My Car not because he really loved Hamaguchi's previous films, but because it was acclaimed.
but having a world leader being a film/music/book nerd isn't a bad thing; if it can inspire one impressionable person to listen to Mdou Moctar, etc, then it's awesome.

yeh, i feel like Licorice Pizza is wildly enjoyable and pleasingly messy, yet it's pretty easy to make a case this is PTA's worst film. which is less a commentary on the film, more about the filmography that preceded it.
