Yes, i have the right band. I remember there being a lot of hype sorrounding "Do You Like Rock Music?", like everyone had to check out that album (I assumed it was the debut since I had never heard of them but looks like I've been wrong). VW debut came out in the same month.
Havent heard of this band since the debut in 2008. I remember them being in the conversation with Vampire Weekend about which bands were about to blow up and become the next best thing in the world. Good Times.
why wouldn't someone with this kind of networking skills and almost unlimited resource live a life of exploring their most profound interests and desires?
Why do I have the feeling folks are kind of "rooting" for him this time around, as opposed to the JIK rollout where it was all hate towards him (political context/choices sure helped that time around).
Everytime I go to some friends house for dinner or just hang (or watch Euro 2020) in the past months (everyone is vaccinated btw) someone always end up playing King Gizzard's Butterfly 3000 on the speakers - to the point where we voluntarily stopped doing that for variety's sake - so the opening of that record will be my pavlovian memory of summer 2021.
Why is the conversation around Amnesiac always has to be in relation to Kid A. Yes, I know they were made in the same studio sessions, but they don't sound the same, at all ! Kid A is way more eletronic than jazz, while Amnesiac is full-on jazz. Kid A aims for the future, while in Amnesiac they experiment with genres mostly from the past. Amnesiac is not a side companion to Kid A, the aesthetic is different and they simply don't sound the same. Nobody would shuffle around the songs from the two.
20 years later Amnesiac is still not recognized as the unique masterpiece. It is till wrongly viewed as "the inferior Kid A" :(
Still my 3rd favourite Radiohead album after the obvious two. I get why people gravitate towards the more accessible In Rainbows, Amnesiac is still, to this day, a very disjointed and challeging listen, that only became more and more rewarding through the years. Most of the songs aren't even "real" songs, they are Radiohead being as experimental as they've ever been, trying out being either glitchy experimental (which they overdid in HTTT), jazzy experimental or simply ambient. It's a perfect showcase of the band's eccletic capacities and versatility while ignoring the need to create fully formed songs that could be singles. So Kid A was comercial suicide? They've double down on that in Amnesiac.
Still, the album is full of those crushing emotive moments that only Radiohead can deliver, in Dollars & Cents, Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, and Life in The Glasshouse, which is still the best ending on any Radiohead album. A very underrated Masterpiece.
I have never been to the Barcelona one, because the Porto edition takes place in the city I live, and i've been to every single edition since 2012. The line-up is usually a trimmed version of the highlights from the primavera one (you won't see Frank Ocean or The Strokes but you'll definetly see 2nd tier artists like Tyler the Creator or Pavement or FKA twigs. Line-ups have been always solid). Less crowded (around 20k per day), it takes place in a green grassy park, cheaper and overal I'd guess is a way more comfortable experience.
What a loss. Return to Forever (the seagul album) was one of the first jazz albums i've heard in my life. He has made a lot of Hotel Bar/Elevator cheesy Jazz over the years but still has legendary moments in his discography. I always reccomend Romantic Warrior to folks who want to dive in Free Jazz
If it was any male artist this comment section would be and mocking, calling them out of touch rockists and laughing because he couldnt even break the guitar.
But since its an indie Twitter darling they're like "YASS QUEEN".
I like Phoebe Bridgers but that was Corny as hell.
Terrible, terrible loss. I have the feeling she was just getting started and had high hopes on what music boundaries she was going to push next. The song released this week was a great start.
Very sad day.
" And Bassett has recently been spotted with Carpenter, 21, which neatly aligns with this “Drivers License” lyric: “And you’re probably with that blonde girl/ Who always made me doubt/ She’s so much older than me"
I'm 30 and felt so old when I read this. I also think the song is really good and I don't even listen to pop.
Radiohead member's have been to busy with side projects. Hell, even EOB released a solo album. But I'm betting on them to start recording something.
The Kid A/Amnesiac sessions deluxe boxset e something i've been waiting all my life
