What the heck is he playing drums with? It looks like a wire brush in his right hand but I have no idea what's in his left
When does she drop her Trump breakup song?
I can't wait for these to reach the 80s & 90s to watch the songwriting/music quality plummet drastically.
Will definitely be putting on Aretha Live at Fillmore West today. I suggest you guys give a listen if you haven't before
Not better, but almost just as good is J Mascis' cover of "Fade Into You"
Also speaking of Courtney, she did maybe the best Day of The Dead cover with "New Speedway Boogie"
It's not another Velveteen fake out is it?
I'm assuming Toto missed the deadline & will be #1 next week?
Solid list, although I don't think I've ever considered Foo Fighters grunge
Which one of these is Deafheaven?
Came here to make this exact comment. 100% that entire album
Mascis' solo albums are so good and such a departure from Dinosaur Jr. albums that you'd almost think the two are unrelated
It's not even a lo-fi thing. I love Pavement and like The Microphones & Sebadoh, but Bee Thousand is so lo-fi to the point it sounds demo tape-y to me. Thanks for the other recommendations, though. I'll give them a chance
Couldn't tell you from when I first started, but most recently it was Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes & Do The Collapse (Those are the albums that have the most tracks in the top ten for the artist on Spotify)
You guys ever have a band that no matter how many times you try, you just can't get into them? That's me & Guided By Voices. I've tried 3-4 times now over the past decade or so & it just isn't happening
I was at a show recently and a comedian made a joke regarding 9/11 (about how they'd forgotten it last year since there weren't enough reminders. Pretty innocuous for a topic like that, I think). I laughed and didn't think they were trying to offend, which is exactly what this is. Nobody's mocking tragedy, they're just observing a very niche perspective and pointing out the ridiculousness of it
I'm a huge MMJ fan and I did not like this record when it first came out, but it has definitely grown on me over the years. I would still probably rank it in their bottom 3 albums, but there's still a lot to like. Even a "bad" MMJ record is still pretty good.
"#41" is pretty good Also, I wouldn't say DMB "sucks". I mean, they're not my thing, but I get why they're liked
That record plays like a greatest hits album and its their debut.
Is there anything resembling "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings"? That is my favorite style of FJM. Those drums!
"Steve, Imma let you finish, but an 808 is the #1 thing you bring to a picnic"
Kinda sounds like Mark Kozolek with Toe as his backing band
Long time Stereogum reader & made an account to just say that I'm extremely happy "Steam Engine" is not even on here, but is ranked that high. Big fan of the longer, more epic MMJ songs ("Dondante", "Steam Engine", "Rollin' Back", etc.) and they are great at them. Also, I am firmly on record that the guitar solo from "One Big Holiday" is the best guitar solo of the 21st century.
