The estate of the frontman from Spirit have spent the last five years trying to get him a co-writing credit on 'Stairway' and keep losing their appeals. Probably because the first known use of that chord progression is from a piece of music written in the 17th century
Dollars to donuts this movie is a syrupy rehash of the "tragedy begets great art" trope with some psychedelia thrown in. Louis Wain was a wonderful artist, but his life story is ripe for this kind of thing
Part of what I love about Lush and those first EPs is when she doesn't quite hit a note. She has enough of a naturally good-sounding voice to get away with it, especially when lyrically what she's pushing is unvarnished emotion. Think her vocals on this are sounding great too tho, 'Valentine' slaps
Ironically there is a picture of a fork on it that he had them put there as a reminder to keep off the heroin ('cause you can't cook in a fork). At least he's been keeping clean for the past couple of decades
He pawned that Nothing's Shocking guitar for drug money back in '91 and didn't find it again until a couple of years ago. Seems he's pretty pleased to be reuinited
So weird that she puts out this crazy tweet that gains huge press just a few days after news broke about her husband's failure to register as a sex offender in CA with potential jailtime coming up
Accidental downvote :( sorry rj. This was a great article, highlighting the shittiness of corporate festivals and what can be achieved with the power of pure rockin'. Loved it
I'm wondering whether they're taking the piss with the b-sides being only on cassette, the two cassette package being 50% more than the price of a triple LP, and this on the front cover

Heck yeah it's mellow, metal doesn't have to be harsh all the time. Earth 2 is my favourite metal record of all time so maybe I'm biased, but if anyone looks me in the eye with a straight face and say "'Raiford (The Felon Wind)' is not metal" I will slap that face
Hah, I spent a long time trying to figure out if '16 was even eligible, lots of counting on fingers going on. Still not entirely sure.
Totally agree, the later albums don't give his vocals/lyrics the same standing. Still enjoy them, and he still sounds evil, but he sounds EVIL on the S/T. I actually was uhm-ing and ahh-ing between that and Burning Witch, but it just came down to the fact that the Khanate album still hits me like the first time every time.
I hadn't, no. Thank you very much for the rec, got the '09 going right now and really liking it so far!

Well it's not going to stand up in court, I doubt the Nirvana estate is hurting to find a team of lawyers who will quash this. After it's thrown out he'll probably moan about it and receive some mild coverage before he stops being of interest and no one listens to him anymore. Kind of doubt they would change one of the most recognisable covers in the history of rock music when this'll just be a small blip in the history of the album.
This beautiful.
Fun fact: everything on Michigan is recorded with SM57s and occasionally a C1000 because Sufjan didn't know what he was doing but it still sounds fucking great. There aren't any rules, production doesn't mean half as much as the songs, do what you want.
