I always "accidentally" snarky snark snark snark this video rules. can we talk about that this video rules guys?
things like this make me appreciate The Lonely Island so much more. that's not sarcastic. The people involved are in this endeavor specially talented, we know from their other work, but I don't see any of that put to use. It was all so obvious and two-dimensional, Toyota really could have saved their money. Dad dude should just stay on ONN. for my enjoyment. not for like, his own financial stability. Though that wife is incrediblyyyy cute to me! So I guess that means something.
My only problem with this episode was the lack of an emotional connection. It reminded me of COMMS 100's curriculum. Namely, the different types of listening, like Empathic Listening, Listening for Comprehension, etc.. With the flashback Alpert episode, I was doing both empathic and comprehension. I was thoroughly invested in Alpert's story. With this one, it was just kind of like "oh okay. the wheel concept came from there. what else? okay, so that's the smoke monster now. hrm. what else?" But I am not too frustrated by the episode itself. I don't understand, and have never understood, people's insistence that the showrunners are just throwing shit out there. They even went through the trouble of straight up showing you "see? this scene from season 1? this is how it makes sense." From an analytical point of view, I was like "ehh why do they feel the need to show this? are they going to do that for -every- mystery they explain from now on?" but then emotionally, just seeing those characters from so long ago stirred something inside of me. It brought me back in a really powerful way, to see John with his little hunting vest, Jack and Kate uncomplicated (and sleeveless) and full of wonder like we were. Especially after last week definitively being like "this is the end game. nothing will ever be like it was again." to see exactly what things "were," was really beautiful for me. I think that was brilliant, maybe the most powerful move in the whole episode. xxx as for people being pissed off about the "asking questions will only lead to more questions," I had this thought last night. Now, imagine a conversation with someone watching season one after the series is over, and coming to you after the House of the Rising Sun episode. "okay, it's killing me, who are those corpses in the cave?" "sure you want to know?" "YES, YOU ASSHOLE" "well, one of them is the corpse of the smoke monster." "the what monster?" "you know what monster?" "yeah." "it's made of smoke." "what? and it used to be a man? how did he become a smoke monster?" "his brother jacob threw him in the cave for killing their adoptive mother" "what cave? who is jacob?" "the protector of the Island" "what is he protecting it from?" so on and so forth. it would never stop. that's frustrating for everybody. you would literally just get bored and tell them "you have to see for yourself/let me show you" and have them watch LOST, because it is far too much to just explain in bulletpoints or discussion. that's how it is for us, that's how it is for the characters on the show, that's how it is for the writers. so I'm not mad at that. in due time. and perhaps, adoptive mother didn't feel like answering a shitload of questions from a woman she was about to murder in twenty seconds.
"what was THAT about" what does THAT mean? Jay-Z has a greatest hits album coming out, and he is also Jay-Z. I don't understand the snark, he did a great performance full of great songs. Why not...appreciate it?
Jack had a breathing apparatus for him
also, thumbs up to everyone in the comments who is all "duh Lapidus is not dead" because duh Lapidus is not gurlgburblburbl
Wait, maybe someone pointed this out before but, I thought Gabe saying "and then all the telephones in the world ring in unison," was a reference to everyone watching Lost calling their friends and being like "omg did you just see that!" but upon FURTHER INSPECTION it feels now like it is a reference to The Lawnmower Man, which would make more sense if he put that after noting Lapidus aka Jeff Fahey aka The Lawnmower Man's (supposed) death. Boil em mash em stick em in a stew
before you click on the video, he looks like Guru.
LOL at this currently having negative eleven votes compared to the post above it, even though it's almost the same joke but with a extra pinch of "too far, bro."
I spent like an hour last night just watching lawmakers all over the world fight on youtube. it's better than hockey fights. russians: can't fight bolivians: can
woops, I mean Kirstie Alley IS Marcus Garvey
why are Jamie Foxx and Mo'Nique, Oscar winner, put in the same category as Pauly Shore and Megan Fox. I mean, I know Oscars don't automatically legitimize things (Martin Scorsese, etc) but I think there's waaay too much JFoxxxx hate that goes on on the Gum. He says dumb shit in comedian mode, but as far as movie roles go, he's consistently made as many inspired and inspiring choices as any mainstream actor over the past decade.
I think if Ben, Richard, and Miles never came back but just had their own spinoff, I would watch every week for six seasons.
you had me at "Norm"
p.s., totally waiting for someone to realize "oh you're not a candidate" and go ahead and shoot Lapidus in the face. OR IS HE?!?!?!?!?!111 p.s.s. totally wanted Jack to be taking his son to the adoption agency. I can get down with the whole "what if everybody's life was different" of the alt-verse, but the "what if we invented an entire new person" is kinda caraaayzee.
the season's gotten to the point where it's pointless to even call out "BEST EP OF THE SEASON!" every week because it's on point so goddamn much. except that I was all "THE APHASIA WILL MAKE SENSE, DON'T WORRY GUYS" a couple weeks ago and they toootally proved me wrong by making its resolution(?) totally lame. are we to believe that Sun and Jin are finally happy and everything is especially okay because they can both speak english to each other now? really? and that's the language they decide to revert to in perhaps the most powerful emotional moment of their lives? the one Sun learned three years ago, the one Jin learned like three days ago? score +1 for the ammuricans. whatevs. great episode though. great tv show, lol.
So here's my thing about LOST: endgame. this was sparked by the recap at NY Mag, really got me thinking when Lost started out, one of the most remarkable things about it (besides the actual premise) was what a rainbow the cast was. people from different countries, of different ethnicities, age groups, all treated as mature well-rounded characters. the women were just as self-assured and powerful as the men. now that Michael's dead, Rousseau's dead, Alex is dead, Eko's dead, Illana's dead, Ana Lucia's dead, Naomi's dead, Caesar's dead- not to mention all the characters under thirty (Charlie, Shannon, Boone, Walt) disappeared three seasons ago, the interracial couple is gone and not coming back, the only gay character is dead, Sun literally has no voice, Kate hasn't done -anything- but pace back and forth the entire season, Claire's just crazy, Sayid's an emotionless plot device, and the only thing Jin does is look for Sun- as of right now, this show's entire fate rests in the hands of a bunch of white guys over 40.
I was working under the assumption that Desmond being fried up by Widmore allowed his consciousness to travel somewhat between the universes. but do we think that if dez hadn't gotten cooked that he wouldn't have FELT IT in the opposite universe? because charlie knew what was going on from the instant he was revived on the plane. so do you think charlie would have done the same things, but the whole "let's pretenddrown" thing wouldn't have worked? also, lindelof re-tweeted something about desmond wearing a wedding ring on 815, and how dat wuz not a coincerdence. it was so good that Michael came back looking handsome and cool. I think that is a direct response to that Harold Perrineau interview discussing his unhappiness about the abysmal treatment received during the season 4 return. this final(?) appearance wasn't showy or anything, it was reserved and that was by far, for me, the most emotionally resonant thing out of that episode. He wasn't vilified and shitted on, he wasn't magically redeemed and absolved of what he'd done. He was just, sorry.
ah! you're right. Desmond admiring the sailboat because of his own sailboating trip in the original timeline makes much more sense. I don't know why that flew right past my head. something told me I was jumping the walt on that one.
Not everyone has shitty/fruitless relationships in college, Gabe. chillpillz
I was just thinking about the bottle metaphor, the wine being the darkness/smokey the first time we see alpert, he is fucking with a boat in a wine bottle, tending to it (kind of like what his job is! checking on the island, tending to see that the MIB is in his place) I've proposed the connection between smokey promising Losties on the Island what they want to get them to follow him- while in the alt universe the Losties are kept complacent with everything they've ever wanted. in the alt-universe, Desmond is noticeably staring at the HUGE sailboat, that is not in a bottle in Widmore's office. therefore, the entire alt universe is the sailboat? it is unleashed/unhinged from the Island? clearly, widmore is there to stop smokey, but his ability to do that also has something to do with desmond's ability to manipulate the alt universe. basically, I'm still floating that the Smoke Monster had a hand in creating the sideways world, or something along those lines.
okay so I noticed and commented here a few weeks ago, that the alt-universe's characteristics definitely were in line with what the Losties greatest hopes and dreams were. Sayid had Nadiyah, Jack had a son, Locke had Helen, Hurley had good luck, etc.. and now Desmond has Widmore's approval. Which are also in line with the things that Smokey would have promised them? also, how cool is it that Widmore isn't a villain at all anymore? and neither is Ben! the only one left is is Smokey, and we are becoming more sympathetic with him all the time. I was really pissed with how obvious the writers were last night in some of the conversations last night (Carlton and Lindelof are feeling themselves a bit too much at this point)- the talk between Widmore and Desmond were soooo This Is Not How People Talk. but great episode. always good to see Farraday. you know, absence makes the heart grow fonder- it's not till these characters leave that I realize how attractive they all are. Like, Keamy gave me super butterflies last week, as far as old dudes go, Mikhail is top notch, Farraday is such a cutie. except Charlie. it looks like puberty hit him worse than Walt. last week, it seemed like Jin and Sun were going to run into Juliet by way of her needed maternal care for the gunshot wound- now I'm thinking Desmond and Penny could meet her at the coffee shop?
Have you ever seen Harrold Perrineau's interview post Season 4? http://www.tvguide.com/news/lost-harold-perrineau-36053.aspx it's really interesting. I wasn't sure if he'd come back. good to see him though. I really do think he got the shit end of the stick. esp with genuine redemption being such a prevalent theme on the show, it was very backhanded.
hey you guys know who Zoe really looks like? call me crazy but
I like imagining that this dude is Mike Patton.
wait, no stop. everyone needs to see this, re: kat stacks- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBug8Uz8EEg
I had to stop watching this half way through. my skin started crawling, and I just got really freaked out by the whole thing and I still don't feel quite right.
I, love, Terry Crews.
so pretty much the only unifying characteristic of the Step Up franchise is that it stars pretty white people surrounded by a bunch of minorities whom they have to learn (steal) from and then save with their special heart and understanding. I'm really glad more movies in Hollywood aren't like that.
No? Mikhail was only present in the original Lost timeline in 2004. which reminds me, Charlie missed all the time-travellin' fun. Imagine a fuckin Eko vs Keamy karate fights. I hope there are way more karate fights in the weeks to come. and flying toolbox TKOs. I'm thinking Juliet will be the doctor who tends to Sun's gunshottedbaby party.
"well," "apparently," "peep" "note" "let's not forget that" I sound like an asshole. sry
Well, apparently over at AV Club there are a lot of people who sound credible (they use big words and shit) saying that Sun's case of aphasia is pretty realistic. especially since she very recently learned English. also, there's a thought that Sun's inability to speak english could be connected to her multi-verse self not knowing any language but korean and a sign that the multi verses are beginning to slide together. I really, really, don't believe that the creators of Lost would throw something that ridic in the mix this late in the series- when everyone is already all twitchy and kneejerky- just for shits. aaaand peep her taking a second look in the mirror in the alt verse like something wasn't quite right. aaaand, Gabe noted it many many weeks ago, seemingly as a joke, but it is true that every single episode there is a different character playing a different game with Miles. this week it was Lapidis and Poker. that is "[almost] Definitely Not a Coincidence" as the kids say. and either way if you think that the Sun thing is lame, just think of how much LOST people made up for it- zombie Sayid is such a striking device. it's really one of the most intriguing mysteries to me. It wasn't just that he is a zombie, it's that he became that way specifically after he encountered Locke, let's not forget that. I need to watch season 2 all over again so I can care about Desmond. honestly, as LOSTnerd as I am, the time travel stuff kind of just disoriented me till where Desmond just kind of became an instrument for confusing shit, and I forgot how to care about him emotionally. note how Sawyer's tone with Locke is much more openly hostile now. they were so cordial the last episode, it's completely changed. something's going to go down. Cuse and the other guy are totally hyping the next episode up. "the conversation is going to change" or something, they say. uh oh! time for an alt-universe gamebreaker. I seriously trust , again, that they would gamble their sixth season on a story device that doesn't mean anything. I could be wrong, but Lost has almost always trumped the naysaying and lowered expectations.
besides the thrill of Goldeneye comments, just wanna put it out there that I've listened to this video three times (while reading AV Club's LOST recap because it is so good and I am killing time till Gabe's goes up : ( ) and My World 2 is definitely getting a download in the near future. go bieb go
Only Slappers, License to Kill, Grace Jones. only way to do it.
this sounds incredibly like a Raaaaaaaandy bit. Erykah is a genius. I hope this inspires people to actually listen to Nu Amerykah instead of just talking about her ass. Or talk about people talking about her ass.
