still corners can sound a bit formulaic at times, but damn they just keep sounding better with each record. i listen to salt on my lonely dark bicycle rides home so that helps. nothing like gliding through the empty city with deseo playing
i mean it's just tom's edgy aoty so i dont put too much weight into it and I don't have an ear for hip hop anyway
what i find frustrating is ari's record; i thought i had developed a good enough ear for pop music but i just find sweetener so bland - and i really wanted to like it cause she recorded 'problem'and it just fucking bops til the end of the universe
and well there's not much left, so the other 3 records in my 10 are Low, Tirzah and Beach House. i shat on 2018 earlier but it actually turned out to be a pretty good year
They're not even playing their instruments the 'right' way and there's no discernable interplay between the sounds - it's clearly meant to not sound pleasant
At any rate don't let that detract you from seeing her live. She's got a 6 member band going and the new tubes sound great, particularly chaitius. I went with someone who likes Tash Sultana and she enjoyed it, so it's definitely not as challenging as those dreaded 4 minutes. I loved it
do you even schoenberg bro
jk those are also my least favorite 4 mins on the record; maybe if it sounded a bit dronier i’d like it better? at any rate i find disliking something on a record to be of value to me. like what was she thinking? how does this fit into what she’s trying to say? and so on and so on
My faves not on this list:

aviary aotl
can't wait til i get a free afternoon to read this
jk, definitely my most played record this year, it's really just great songs after great songs. believe is, of course, something else, filling that space somewhere between red house painters and the war on drugs. easily of the finest distinctly american rock tracks i've ever heard
what the hell? every time you have 2 entities that create something, anything, as a business, there are going to be nda's involved. hell, i'm an engineer and no 2 companies would work together if there wasn't some kind of agreement that would prevent them from stealing ideas off each other, and frankly i wouldn't have it any other way. it makes cooperation not just easier, but simply possible
well I was being sarcastic, I think pitchfork's reviewers brains are better at telling them what to like than I could ever be. nor do i consider it pathetic if someone 'changes' their mind and now disagrees with me
so what exactly is their lineup now? they've played a bunch of live shows and i still haven't found any info; their wiki page still states the usual 4 members plus a saxophonist. was that the only change? i really couldn't find anything about it anywhere
song is stellar as always
i mean for something with aviary's scope and grandeur i don't even care where it's gonna place, just the fact it exists is an achievement itself. i heard it first thing yesterday, and when i was done i thought 'what the fuck do i follow this up with?', and i just had to play it again. avant-garde, jazz, classical, krautrock, fuck yes please. i would tentatively compare it to the seer, mbdtf and to a lesser extent utopia, but still grander than any of them. i mean, i think the minimum would be to at least mention her somewhere in the site, but i guess not that many people consider holter one of the goats like me
