"As a Grade 7 social studies and language arts teacher, I will say that this is a terribly written opinion/argument. I would be confused by a student who argued something is the best thing in a long time, then argued it also sucks." Avoid slashes. Pick a word and run with it. C+ SEE ME. -eg
X2 and X3 are good/worth playing if a little samey.
Even the first few towns have so much variety: ominous bleeps and bloops on the night of the alien invasion, banjo music playing in the shops, dub at the hospital...c'mon, dub at the hospital. Who thinks of that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOJZRFeRi_s&t
"You're lucky. Looks like my summer vacation is...over."
I purposely didn't mention David Wise's DKC soundtracks or anything by Koji Kondo because their GOAT status goes without saying. EarthBound...the music that plays when you battle Giygas is seriously unsettling. Sounds like the Haxan Cloak or something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYb9kSCkjE8
Everything about that game is a work of art.
I bought Human Evolution--Director's Cut cheap for the Wii U but still haven't played it. Is it any good?
I don't own any non-Nintendo consoles but dig this even without ever having played the game.
All-time Top 10 if not Top 5 for me.
How did it take this long for someone to post this?
My wife walked down the aisle to "Zelda's Lullaby". As for "Saria's Song", you need to hear this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHJRNmjqhT0
Earthbound/Mother 2 is the only video game whose ending made me tear up a little. (I still haven't played Mother 3 and hear it's even more of a tearjerker.) One of the most eclectic soundtracks ever, for sure. Kingdom Hearts...the Traverse Town theme really takes me back, but I gotta give the edge to "Dearly Beloved", the GOAT video game title theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avGbnVlH5C0
Hollow Knight will be another Day 1 purchase on the Switch.
I'm finally getting a Switch for my birthday this month. Celeste will be a Day 1 purchase.
Who's yr waifu? Awakening did have a fantastic soundtrack, but "Road Taken (Calm)" from Fates is the song I remember most. Whenever I think of Fire Emblem now, I hear that little string part at 0:30. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BOcdhaYTQQ
Mega Man 2 is the right kind of difficult. Mega Man 3 is not: lots of unpolished, glitchy parts that feel overlooked by the game developers, slowdown so bad you have to factor it in when fighting certain enemies (like those cats in Top Man's stage), those bullshit Doc Robots that kill you in 3 hits while you're trying to figure out their weaknesses, game itself is way too long, etc. I can beat MM2 in my sleep and still replay it at least once a year. I beat MM3 maybe twice and never bothered with it again.
Video game music with lyrics is almost always a bad idea...unless you go all out and swing for the fences. It took Sega another 4 years to figure that out. Got places to go gotta FOLLOW MY RAINBOW https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6NaZrPQGfY
2 had all the best songs, except for "Snake Man" from 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpVIM8de2xw
BUT... THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE.
"Chemical Plant Zone" and "Casino Night Zone" are classics, but "Sky Chase Zone" was always my favorite deep cut. Fun fact: Masato Nakamura, composer for Sonic 2, was also the bassist and producer of a catchy-as-shit Japanese pop band called Dreams Come True. Hooks for days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7xrhDkigkM
Man, Silent Hill 2...Angela saying "you see it too? For me, it's always like this" before she turns around and walks up that flaming staircase has to be one of the most tragic moments in video games. The music is perfect. I beat Streets of Rage 2 at least once a year and love the soundtrack. Beat-'em-ups are weirdly relaxing despite the constant fighting, so the OST consisting mostly of loungey Japanese techno totally fits the gameplay.
I hope people who can't see the picture realize there was supposed to be a picture with this comment and know I'm not just yelling about dicks.
Really interesting you mentioned those three genres of music specifically, because there's a reason so many people are put off by them: -nerds love them and tend not to shut up about them -part/most of the appeal of the songs is how they were used in the original medium, so it's hard for people who haven't played/heard/seen the game/musical/movie to get what all the fuss is about Take something like "Phendrana Drifts" from Metroid Prime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RWI3-8N_-Y On its own it sounds like an average-to-good ambient electronic song. But in the context of the game, which is one of the greatest games ever made, it sounds amazing. You've just trekked through jungle and ruins fighting space pirates, all while reading logbooks about their dangerous scientific experiments on these things called Metroids, which according to the logs are incredibly dangerous but vulnerable to cold temperatures. You've battled your way through the pirate's underground base full of gas and lava and steel. Then, exhausted, you take an elevator up to the surface and see this pristine snowscape. Then the song starts. It's inextricably linked to the game and see now I just did the nerd thing and won't shut up about it help me
Speaking of video games: THREE STARS SUCK MY DICK GRUMBLE VOLCANO http://i66.tinypic.com/rvzvw2.jpg
Feel like we should discuss video game music more often. Not sure why we don’t, but I guess Shut Up, Dude is the best place for it. One of my all-time favorites is “Kamiki Festival” from Ōkami, a phenomenal game that just got an HD re-release this month on the Switch. Everything in the game is meant to look like it popped out of a classical Japanese painting, and the soundtrack reflects that. The song itself is just a 30-second loop, but it’s one of the warmest, prettiest, Japanese-iest loops you’ll ever hear. Hope it soundtracks some fireworks and good times for everybody this weekend. What are some of your favorites? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PemdXckvHDs
He's not white, you ding-dong.
You're too textbook to be real.
No one is booing you for speaking out against anti-Semitism. They're booing you because you're acting like an asshole.
Listening to that debate with Destiny made me want to throttle both of them.
I'll never forget the day I saw an rj comment underneath a JonTron video. Dude's a confirmed nerdlinger.
