I was really hoping Somewhere would be on this list. I think it's the best song they ever wrote. Also, Fopp, Hands all over and Uncovered should be considered.
Ok, so I truly believe Sigur Ros made 3 albums so great that I'd compare them to The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A. AB, (), and Takk. The others are great too....but to not have these as the top three is a little questionable. I can't rank these albums. It's like ranking Radiohead (or even Pink Floyd) albums. Really too great to put numbers on.
Not that I'm particularly a fan, but I feel I'll end up hearing "alive" by Empire of the Sun this summer as much if not more than most of these songs. It has that summery vibe. Or maybe "recover"...even though its not new its super poppy and people like hooky jams like this in the sun. Deafheaven have moments of beauty, but they're always eventually barreled over by the vocals. Kanye is just angry. "Step" would be a better song off MVOTC.
Grimes played on the second "Bigfoot" stage.....not the main stage. You must have been closer than I was, cause the sound of her set didn't carry well to the back. This seemed to be a trend for multiple acts on this stage (Vampire Weekend was particularly quiet).
Check out Heartbeats and Marble House. This is why alot of people care. But we also love the experimental side of things. I'd say go ahead and check out Mountains - Centrailia.
There are glaring similarities between this and the new Flaming Lips album. Both are challenging, but sure to reward with repeat listens. Also, both have a couple bangers to please the pop fan in all of us. But neither are pop albums. Far from it. These are bands still interested in creating. Love them more for it.
I don't know if I agree with the ordering of this list....but putting Clouds Taste Metallic at number 1 makes me REALLY happy. The Soft Bulletin may be their most important album, but CTM has always been my favorite. Oh, and anyone who didn't listen to Zaireeka in the way it was intended to be heard missed out on something monumental.
Heck yeah, check that out. He's a great performer. Come to think of it, I don't this his album is that great.....It's more about his energy, which comes across far better live.
Money Store > No Love Deep Web. Aesop Rock's Skelethon? Also, I'd put Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on any best of hip hop list (but I'm from the pacific NW, so I'm a little biased).
Chan Marshall should be on this list somewhere. I have mixed feelings about her latest album, but as a human being she is about as beautiful as we get.
1) The Mollusk
2) Chocolate and Cheese
3) Pure Guava
4) GWS
5) Quebec
6) The Pod
7) White Pepper
8)12 Country Golden Greats
9)La Cucaracha
10) B-sides.
Unlike pretty much everyone else, I think Reinhold Messner is by far their best album, and the first of these two tracks certainly reminds me of the bombast that was that album. I'm unexpectedly excited for this.
The White Stripes. Ween. Underworld (w/ Emerson) The Orb (Paterson and Thrash). Clap your hands say yeah (the band before the hiatus). Fugazi. Tripping Daisy. Tool. Sleater Kinney. Sonic Youth. Isis. Dresden Dolls. Maybe not all top 10, but certainly all bands I want to see.
Although I've only listened to the first three songs, I really just want to throw in Mclusky Do Dallas and really rock out. That being said, the Men album that is being hailed around these parts is actually pretty inspired.
Flood produced Orbital album....("never" is great)....New Radiohead. Don't be surprised if a new Daft Punk album hits you over the head. I'm throwing a new GYBE! album for no apparent reason. New Olivia Tremor Control. New Spoon (Just cause it's likely). New Portishead. New Sage Francis. New Bill Callahan (this guy releases an amazing album every year).
Nothing by Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsom, Sigur Ros, Wilco, Fleet Foxes, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, The Flaming Lips, Mclusky, Interpol, the Beta Band....don't get my wrong, this list tries and hits includes a lot of good stuff......but Kelly Clarkson?
