Great article. I saw them first on the Rollercoaster tour with Curve & Jesus & Mary Chain. They were promoting "Lazer Guided Melodies". I can't say they were the best band that night(many people did), but they definitely got my attention. It wasn't until the "Pure Phase" tour when I saw them open for Siouxsie and the Banshees that I became a huge fan. They had gotten even better live and personally I think that is their best album. It definitely set up "Ladies & Gentlemen..." to be moderately successful in the States and a monster in the UK. I think when Kate Radley left him(very publicly) that it had a huge impact on the music and the man. I think Jason handled it as elegantly as anyone possibly could. And he put out some incredible music along the way. I've seen them 7 times over the years, including just a couple of weeks ago. Pierce seemed to be way beyond heartbreak and really into turning a new generation on to his music.

To most die hard Prince fans, this is his masterpiece. The thing is, I remember the misstep of choosing "If I Was Your Girlfriend" as the second single. I know, I know. It's a classic now, but at the time, it was not going to get any real radio airplay(no video either BTW). If the second single had been "U Got The Look", the album would have stayed in the Top 10 for a long time. By the time they released that song officially, SOTT had lost it's chart momentum. The singles charted well, but the album sales went into the crapper. It was also substantially more expensive than a single CD or album was at the time. Regardless it's a classic and like the rest of his catalog, desperately needs to be remastered.
That's former guitar player Richard Patrick(Filter) up there looking silly with him.
"Run LIke Hell" did it for me.
Yeah, almost any of his songs could sound cliche', but they're all classics. I'll go with "Southern Nights".
Welcome to oblivion Adele. Watch out for Alanis, Lauryn Hill, & Norah Jones.
Poor choice of words by Cornell but Kanye is garbage. His management also pays to have websites like this and Pitchfork kiss his ass 24/7. A LOT of people wanted a Soundgarden reunion and they can go and play almost anywhere in the world on their own unlike Kanye and Jay-Z and all the other rappers who have to play these traditionally rock festivals because they know they can't tour by themselves because no one in middle America would go.
That clip of War is hot! I love those guys. The bottom line is Rolling Stone basically created the R & R Hall and if you've not been on their radar they're not going to put you in. Dave Marsh has a lot to do with who goes in and it's well known he hates Kiss. I do think Donovan & Laura Nyro do deserve the nod, but maybe not as much as War, Deep Purple, Kiss, Rush, Donna Summer, etc...
Another terrible list paid for by Sony. Expect the same at the Grammys.
Looking back on both albums, "Cherub Rock" seems to stand out to me more than the others. So I'll go with that one for now.
"Welcome To The Machine" is brilliant.
Like a lot of others, my favorite changes all the time. Right now "Until The End Of The World" is the one I'll go with.
"Pet Sounds" is my fave, but if "Smile" had been properly released, it probably would have been.
The dead dog in the coffin was probably the worst thing I can think of off the top of my head.
"Let It Be" which is no one's favorite. My older brother had it and played it all the time so it just stuck with me. As I grew older, I came to appreciate what Phil Spector did with it also.
The biggest selling boot of all time is "The Black Album" by Prince. Of course it was released later by Warner Brothers for a limited time, but Prince got a ton of publicity for it. Led Zepp "Destroyer" is also better than "The Lost Sessions". And yes, there are a lot of Bruce boots that should be on that list. Not just one. Pretty lame list actually.
"Dark Side Of The Moon" is their true masterpiece and my favorite.
