Saw this quote on youtube and made me totally rethink this video, which I originally thought of as awful:
"This video presents some of the most stereotypical, if not corny American stereotypes. The desert. The galloping stallions. The beautiful woman. The soft porn. The lone ranger riding his motorcycle into the sunset. And it is all presented in such a simple and uninspiring way that it is almost a mockery of these things. The only thing not stereotypically American here, is the fact that the lone ranger is black.
So why is Kanye doing this? Well it is pretty simple, he is taking White American culture, and he is replacing it with a black skin head. This is essentially an aggressive cultural takeover that the average person probably doesn't even realise is happening. Why else would he debut the video on the Ellen show? It is a white American talk show, with a white American demographic. This man is literally destroying white American stereotypes by making them revolve around him. The funniest part is, hardly anyone realises it. Oh and who is White America's favourite 'white' person? Jesus. I'm sure you all get where I'm going with this."
Either Kanye's a fucking genius or just unbelievably cheesy...or both.
I feel that too much of this write up was centered on attacking the idea of Tyler The Creator. Like he's not fulfilling some sort of fantasy you have of him. I'm not a huge fan, but I find some of his work really interesting and don't really listen to him for lyrical insight. I think this was much better than Goblin and there are at least five songs which I will definitely be going back to, which as a previous person put it is all I'm really looking forward in an album like this.
Ohhhhh. I happened to get a new computer the day they changed that, so I thought my computer was just having like a formatting issue and was incredibly annoyed.

It's truly sad how much time I spent working on this, but this whole thing has just reminded me how fucking amazing Modest Mouse is. Also t
Wow really? God everyone's so uptight, I actually thought Tom was really funny in this write up. Domo 23 sounds like another Rella, so it's not really my thing. Bimmer sounds really great though and I hope there's more of that kind of stuff on the album.
Hmm I'll definitely give it a listen! I've listened to loveless many times, because of all the crazy hype there is around it and it just never clicked. Which is odd because I totally dig shoe gaze type stuff.
Thank you! I was actually just about to say that. Generally I don't mind pitchfork and find it useful in terms of learning about new music, but God they piss me off when they just decide that an album deserves an absurdly low number of stars and can't even properly justify it. Now because of their stupid review many people are going to pass on the album and it might have been something that very well enjoyed.
Ughh I'm getting the gross feeling that since so many people loved and ranted over the Frank Ocean album when it came out, it's now "cool" to not talk about it/and generally pretend it didn't happen.
I kinda don't like how this lists just skips off his last couple albums. I mean Happiness and Somebody that I used to know are just outstanding. Also I don't understand how Say Yes isn't on here, regardless of its popularity.
This is just really fucking good music. Genre, sexual preference, previous albums aside this is just a super stellar album. I honestly thought he was pretty good but over hyped after Nostalgia, Ultra. This album definitely has staying power every song is unique but works in its own way. Hate to join the supposed "bandwagon" but I have to say this is the best album of the year (so far).
So what, just because Wayne Coyne likes Ke$ha is she certified indie cool now? I'm sorry but her music still is terrible, even if she does an occasion collaboration with the Flaming Lips.
