I know what will happen with that Ariel Pink song on me. The same way as "Round and Round" or "Only in my Dreams", at first I like it but just meh. Then, days go by, months go by, I listen it again, and BOOOOOM, a strange all time favourite. But right now, "Grid" rocks over everything I hear this week.
Last time, Perfume Genius was on #2, because according to Tom, that Yankovic's "Tacky" video was better than "Queen". COME ON! NO WAY! "Grid" and "Queen" are simply awesome and are putting the expectations around that new album veeeeery high. If the album doesn't accomplish those expectations, at least we have not 1, but 2 out of this world videos and songs.
Wow. Funeral is not even my second favourite, or even in my top ten. Maybe in my top 20. But thanks to mention Since I Left You, the best album ever since I started to listen music really seriously.
I support you on QT. I know it's a nice tune, but I think they're putting a lot of magic that doesn't exist on the real song.
But on Deafheaven, man, you're alone.
Props to War on Drugs. This song is 9 minutes of mastery and they release it in video without cutting not even one second. That's how you show you did an amazing job.
The songs from Mary Lambert and Meghan Trainor were a good surprise. I believe I would be singing those two songs for days, and I'm not much a pop music lover.
My album of the week is Lese Majesty. If there's a better release this week, please let me know because that new Shabazz Palaces album is simply a lesson to everybody about how to make good rap music in 2014.
The same week we watched that incredible clipping. video, you prefer to watch 80's fonts with a stupid song. And last week you exclude "Word Crimes".... Ok, nice joke.
Every chance to hear "Bo Peep" is my favorite moment of the day, so this EP is on heavy rotation since I downloaded. Yeah, I'm expecting this guys make music forever.
Every attempt to respect these awards in any kind of level, goes far, far, far away when you read the list of nominees and find this:
BEST MALE VIDEO:
Ed Sheeran – “Sing” (Feat. Pharrell).
The top 3 is simply awesome. I'm not a Benji's fan but it's a great record. Lost in the Dream is the true 2014 classic.
Some other choices are strange to me, and I didn't know the How to Dress Well album was out now.
Now somebody please tell me where I can listen Nux Vomica!
My personal favorite: Jeremih feat. YG - "Don't Tell Em". That's a summer anthem!
Runner Ups:
- Royksopp & Robyn - "Do It Again"
- Caribou - "Can't Do Without You"
- Vic Mensa - "Down My Luck"
- Shamir "Sometimes A Man"
And if "Seasons" can be a summer anthem, I also suggest:
- Sharon Van Etten - "Every Time The Sun Comes Up"
- Ought - "Habit"
Also, thank you for teaching us about bad music. Sometimes we are hard with good artist when they made mistakes, awful songs, etc. Then you compare that flops with songs like that shitty Train song or the stupid new PSY single with Snoop Dogg, and you realize your favorite artists are genius, and everything is forgotten.
Hey, give some credit to Kevin Drew in that video and in "Good Sex". The guy is full commitment here.
Otherwise, Feist is awesome and Galifianakis is some kind of... filler? Just try to imagine the same clip without him. Exactly, it´s a lot better.
I really don't mind if Stereogum keeps covering this "too mainstream" acts, while the site still deliver us amazing music, as always (or almost always).
The truth is THIS SONG SUCKS. And I like Migos!
Wow! After rolling all the list without reading the introduction, I realized I wasn't expecting "Imagine" in any place here. So thank you, for dedicate space and words to some amazing Lennon songs. These 10 songs are so great, I can't decide an order. Maybe I would add "God" and in one of the higher spots, but nothing else.
The whole album is great, but "Life After Life" is pop perfection in every sense. I never thought a Pains of Being Pure at Heart album would be the one I hear most in any year.
Sorry, but the sexy dance moves on "Doves" were.... some kind of scary and I don't wanna watch them again. Otherwise, the strange break/dance moves on "Spirit" were the best and the truth is Harring can do whatever he wants on stage.
This must be the most common comment in this article, but I don't mind:
Nikki Nack >>>>>>>>>>>.....................>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Luminous (and Nikki Nack is not the best tUnE-yArdS album)
I know that last Horrors album has its moment, but nahhh, I think you gave them the AOW title only because they deserve more attention after years of good work, and yeah, that's true.
