The thing I don't understand about that Pitchfork review is that their main problem seems to be that some of the songs are a year old due to the release being put back. Does this mean that you can only listen to any album until the references on it become a bit dated? Like, if this album had been released a year ago they would have loved it but would no longer entertain listening to it now 12 months have passed? Weird.
I agree. I love all their albums (with the exception of Neon Bible which I only love most of) but Suburbs is a borderline legendary album. All the songs work, the concept actually works which is a minor miracle, and it makes me feel and think things that most other music doesn't.
Yes, yes, I understand that commercially Kanye West is a big deal, but to see ATCQ lower on a bill than Kanye is just fucking depressing. Hip-hop sucks these days.
Suburbs is one of my favourite albums of this century. Gorgeous from front to back, and while this isn't quite a Suburbs or Ready To Start it's good enough to have me salivating like crazy.
I can't really fault her, but I mean, it's a Louis Vuitton fashion show. Surely she should have known that the crowd were going to be a pack of absolute douches.
Intimacy is my favourite album of theirs, although it might have something to do with the fact that I blasted it in my rented Toyota while barrelling around New Zealand for two months.
Couldn't agree more. Getting so tired of all the Kanye love. Even if the guy made great music (he doesn't) I still wouldn't be able to see past what a huge prick he is.
I don't believe for a second that you guys think Justin Timberlake's album is better than The National's. I know you're just trying to make out you're not snobbish, but no Atoms For Peace? By faaaaaarrrrrr the best album of the year. Oh, and Bankrupt! should be in there too.
@Tom - Just a little note to say that I'm not sure what sites/mags/news you consult, but this side of the pond the reviews for Only God Forgives have been overwhelmingly positive while also acknowledging walkouts due to the violence. On more than one occasion I've it heard it referred to as Refn's 'masterpiece' so don't despair. I think it'll be awesome.
I guess it's cool to be conscious this week is it? You know, just like it used to be cool to rap about how rich you are? For 'cool' read 'marketable' by the way.
As someone who's never really been that into VW, I read the semi-ecstatic reviews of the album and thought "Hey, why not give them another shot?", bought the album this morning, listened to it a couple of times at work and weeeell.... I'm still not getting it. Having read the above comments though I'm going to stick with it and hope I get one of those glorious "Oooooh, now I get it" moments.
Although attempting this will be made slightly harder by the fact I just picked up Monomania the other day and really don't want to stop listening to it.
Is this not just some sort of unneccessary commentary on how, if an alien came to Earth and saw all the bad shit humans do to each other, he would probably kill our babies so as not to perpetuate it? Pretty silly video all the same.
I would have had 'Thinking Of A Dream...' in there but I agree with the top two especially. The Rat is probably my favourite song of all time. It's certainly the only song I can think of where I've never gone through a period of not being that fussed about hearing it.
