"It would be completely hypocritical for me to imply that I have never been just as much of an asshole to people around me as I accused Corgan of being. Who am I to cast stones in a glass house?"
Bradford Cox must really act like an asshole.
Woah, I didn't know you could quote other people on here. Or maybe you just copied / pasted and added italics... but I didn't know you could do italics either.
Anyways, yeah. I agree that they probably will never do anything about it, cause its their cash cow. But that doesn't mean they have no moral responsibility...
Alright, so we've reached the point where multiple people die per year at EDM festivals and shows. Usually due to drug overdoses, and I imagine this overboard situation somehow involved intoxication.
At what point do we declare that the party culture of EDM is somewhat responsible for incidents like this? I feel that artists / labels / promoters in this genre need to step up and speak out about the culture that causes this to continue happening.
Leave to Kanye to feel the need to rework a 7 year old song that was already damn near perfect. He's the best kind of perfectionist and this new version is incredible.
I'm hoping Kanye getting on soundcloud is the beginning of a new album cycle. Didn't he get a twitter account just before he kicked off the "G.o.o.d. Friday" series that lead up to the release of MBDTF?
This band has yet to put out a bad song. Really killer album title / artwork as well. I'm surprised more people aren't into this band, especially since everyone I know who likes them LOVES them.
Ahh excited to hear new stuff from Spencer.
He's been in several bands other than Blithe Field that weren't mentioned in the article but are really great.
He released two albums with his screamo/emo band Best Witches

Also he put out a one off EP under the name California Furniture that's my favorite music he's released so far outside of Blithe Field. Its kind of a blend of mid west emo and pacific northwest emo. Very influenced by Modest Mouse.

Ha! Who in Wilco is into noise/grindcore?
Did NOT expect to see that Full of Hell & Merzbow album on here.
Full of Hell isn't my bag, but Wilco clearly do have great taste.
For a band with such a laid back style they have a surprisingly large amount of extra-musical dirt. Not enough for me to stop liking them though. Oshin is a killer album.
Just sitting down with this record for the first time. Just from the two singles I've heard (Cops Don't Care Pt 2 and Every Song Sung to a Dog) I could tell it was going to be special. After reading your write up James I'm even more excited for it.
RSD really has become gimmick central. But I guess if they're going to do the whole "limited edition 1 day only" thing I'd rather have it be gimmicky stuff that I can live without than stuff that I actually will be pissed if I can't get a copy (like that Sunny Day Real Estate 7" from last year)
I'm assuming you're joking? Either way, I do feel kind of weird that his brother openly admits that a lot of bands can only get by with help from wealthy relatives, but Win still has his head up his butt about bands "selling out."
In the current climate, not selling out and still making a living off of your music requires either privilege or luck. Nothing wrong with either, but no point in demonizing bands who legitimately could make a career out of their art, but find themselves in positions where they can't turn down support from corporations like Vans or Red Bull
Where I live (Tallahassee, FL) I've found 3 places to buy new records. One is Barnes and Noble and another is Urban Outfitters. So you don't have it *that* bad.
I love this band so, so much. Get Disowned is incredible album and Hop Along are a FORCE live. Kinda surprised this article didn't mention that they've got a few dates opening for The War on Drugs, considering how much Stereogum loves them.
Yeah, those were the days. Back when people actually bought music.
Its really unfair to cast this as a story of bands "losing integrity" and completely ignore the fact that entire revenue streams for struggling bands have been destroyed. Obviously no one thinks corporate sponsorship is ideal, but its becoming a necessary evil for a lot of these bands to be able to keep playing.
No mention of Nickleback at all? Its cool that she has "indie cred" now, or whatever but she's still putting her music out on Chad Kroeger's label if I'm not mistaken haha.
I've been lucky enough to make it out to SXSW for the past two years in a row, so I don't have too much room to complain about not being able to make it this year. But maaaaan this line up is killing me. Wish I could be there :(
So no one was into the new Purity Ring album? I think its great, definitely on par with Shrines. Its the album of the week in my book, although I'm still glad Pile got it. They definitely deserve the attention and You're Better than This is a great record. Definitely a good week for music.
Haven't heard the album yet, but the first two singles are great. Is it streaming (legally) somewhere?
This paragraph interested me though:
Ian Cohen smartly articulated the phenomenon at Grantland last year, noting that Sleigh Bells and Cults, once representative of the underground’s pop fringe, now sound like MOR rock bands compared to the glossy debut albums from Haim and Chvrches.
What makes Haim or Chvrches indie pop at all? Both bands released their debut albums on major labels, and both bands at least flirted with radio play. We've already covered that their sound is essentially just pop, and they aren't releasing their music on independent labels. So what do we have left to differentiate them from mainstream pop?
Glad they got a good deal out of their Major Label time. They had to deal with some jerking around, but ultimately they made 2 records they probably wouldn't have been able to make otherwise, left with no debt and WB isn't stopping them from releasing anything. At this point, I'm not sure what more any band (that's not making mass market pop) could ask for.
Dude... what the hell are you talking about?
Do you think getting married when you're already living with your girlfriend and your child really makes that much of a difference? Yeezus came out the same month his daughter was born. I think we can probably agree that was a much more radical change in life perspective than getting married to Kim. The whole "girlfriend ruined the band" thing is such tired sexist bullshit anyways.
