Missed out on Sylvan Esso (the muddy hill was not very wheelchair friendly...), so I sat in on the Indigo Girls show. It was actually pretty awesome. They had a pretty awesome set. I also really enjoyed Doomtree and, yes, that Staves show was killer.
And they did those little parades too! MVPs, all the way.
What an amazing weekend. Probably one of my favorite festival lineups ever. Seeing Bon Iver perform in such an amazing setting was almost cathartic. The whole setup of the festival was wonderful, especially since the two main stages were right across from each other. Being able to watch Sufjan Stevens and then turn around to witness Bon Iver perform for the first time in years was something special. The setting was beautiful too (the way the trees lit up with the main stage was amazing). Michael Brown deserved all the credit given to him. Anyone else have any favorite moments from the festival? Spoon's set was awesome in the languishing heat, and Charles Bradley KILLED IT in the three songs I saw of his.
I also concur with this idea. Plus it's really hard for us (the greedy commenters) to join in on any sort of conversation when we've only heard one or two albums...especially those of us who are adverse to leaks.
BUT WHICH ONE IS BETTER jk, they're both great enough on their own accord.
Does he do that a lot on tour? He did it in Milwaukee too.
Chromatics....err...Beach House...err... DAMMIT
Easily one of my favorite albums ever. I remember hearing Chicago for the first time when I was 10, discovering this Suffjohn guy for myself. Probably the first time I really hooked onto any kind of music that wasn't passed down from my mom or my brother. I didn't discover the whole album until about 2008 (back then I didn't get what albums were...stupid young me), and when I did, I loved it. As I've gotten older, Illinois has stuck with me. I remember listening to "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois" as I was taking off on my first flight ever my freshman year in high school (needless to say, that song is even more perfect when staring out the window looking at beautiful clouds). I remember listening to this album to help me get around my grandmother's death. I remember this album becoming the soundtrack to many road trips. It's a perfect album that, really, inspired who I am today.
The diary-like description is pretty accurate, especially given all the anecdotal lyrics in the song. It's an album with a far more intimate scope than the sprawl that Sufjan has done with his last few formal albums (including Illinois, the most sprawling of them all). I actually really enjoyed this tour. I wish he mixed in some older stuff, but I thought the light show worked brilliantly. It was kind of cathartic, in a way that "Blue Bucket of Blood" ends Carrie and Lowell on a powerful moment of catharsis.
That Kendrick video is bone-chilling, everything about it is perfect. Also, Titus Andronicus is going to drop AOTY in a year that already has like 5 albums narrowly competing for that title.
1. Jamie xx feat. Young Thug & Popcaan- I Know There's Gonna Be (Good times) 2. Kendrick Lamar- Momma 3. Sufjan Stevens- Should Have Known Better 4. Kendrick Lamar- Hood Politics 5. Titus Andronicus- Dimed Out 6. Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment- Sunday Candy 7. Sufjan Stevens- Fourth of July 8. Father John Misty- Chateau Lobby #4 9. Courtney Barnett- Depreston 10. Torres- Sprinter honorable mentions- Donnie Trumpet's Familiar, Destroyer's Dream Lover, Alabama Shakes' Don't Wanna Fight No More, NAH's a man that says no, Jamie xx's Loud Places, Future Islands' The Chase, everything Fetty Wap has done this year.
Sunday Candy makes me so damn happy. I'd say most of Surf is good "Make me not miserable" music
Danny Brown ethering Taylor Swift would probably be the funniest thing in the world.
Never thought I'd be psyched for the new T-Pain album...but here we are.
Just popping in to briefly note that the Colin Stetson/Sarah Neufeld album is incredible. Those two gel incredibly well.
I will second Tom's praise of Sylvan Esso live. I have yet to see them at an outdoor festival (I will be seeing them twice this summer), but they bring the energy. They're a ton of fun live.
There's a Killer Mike shout out on "Hood Politics" This album, man
DAMN so much FlyLo, so much Thundercat, so much goodness
I CAN'T SEE MY PROFILE PICTURE! I CAN'T SEE MY PROFILE PICTURE! But no biggie. I really like the redesign. The home page is no longer awful, and I appreciate that. Plus, I hope it will be easier to find new tracks, especially considering how awesome a lot of the more obscure stuff you guys post is. I also really like the big font, because I'm a 19 year old with the vision of a sad 84 year old.
Even Sisyphus was pretty entertaining--and its faults had very little to do with Sufjan himself.
His voice during the chorus just soars. He's incredible.
Wow I am not feeling this at all. I can get behind his other recent tracks...but what's going on here? Why use Vic Mensa? How is Sia's half-hearted singing the highlight? This is stressing me out way more than it should...
I think FourFiveSeconds is a great Rihanna song. It is a "just fine" Kanye song.
All these random releases are really throwing off my sleep schedule lately
This was not supposed to be a reply...and it was supposed to be an image. But either way...new Chromatics!
FINALLY! rymimg.com/lk/o/u/89ed04ac43a22bdce51ca71c62864f49/4316598.jpg
I have a Morning Phase poster hanging in my room AND I spent an entire night two years ago seeing Kanye's face projected on a shitty brick wall. Needless to say, last night felt weird.
Thank god LL Cool J didn't get another 10 minute joyless monologue...
"Drunk girls=white light/white heat" Holy shit
This is really pretty. Looking forward to the album!
It's kind of straightforward, at least for Burial. After Rival Dealer in 2013 (My favorite of his so far), it's just a bit underwhelming. It seems like a one-off, so that might have something to do with it.
Now that D'Angelo finally got off of the "We'll mention it as an anticipated release, but we know it's not going to happen" list, The Avalanches have to release something...right?
I am genuinely surprised that there are JUST 24 iterations of that.
Upvoted for mentioning Windhand
Yikes...uh...maybe he caught lightening in a bottle? Also, upon further research, he also produces for Nickelback. So...maybe something OTHER than production went right on that track...
Great Pop music is often in the hands of the producer, and Hynes is a great producer. Seeing that transition for Jepsen would be great.
I'm going to cry. I'm so happy. Also, some of it was recorded at Justin Vernon's April Base. So that's cool too.
YES! Adult Jazz and Eagulls are both being severely overlooked this year, and Sylvan Esso was also really great (P.S., see them live). Also, I'm really confused by that Pup record. I swear I heard that in like October of 2013 and it was on my list last year. Was it released this year?
I feel the same. I really like both albums for completely different reasons, but Simpson's album is far and away the better album.
