I wonder if he really knew the heartbreak and absolute sadness he would leave behind, if it ever occurred to him. I wish this had a different outcome. I’m devastated. This band got me through a lot.
Nine year old me wanted ONJ so so badly after seeing this video. I went into paroxysms of sheer delight when she sang ‘Let’s get into animal.’ Actually still have the 45.
Sad. I first saw these guys at Electric Picnic Ireland in 2012, though I didn’t know who they were at the time. I just remembered all these amazing bass and guitar lines, got home, looked up the acts and stumbled my way onto Smother, which is such a perfect album. Acquainted myself with their back catalog and have followed them ever since. So sorry they’re gone.
Hey Kid Rock- Come tour Montecito, you prick! I just evacuated for the third time in a month! Here’s some real music, you jackoff: https://youtu.be/R5W8BihIdAM
You kids today with your Lana Del Whozits and your radio gadgets don’t know how good you have it. Back in my day when bands stole songs they stole everything: the recording studio, the producer’s family, sometimes even his dog. And they’d do it with a smile.
Not all of it was mandatory, but I had a nice place to stay and just pretended it was a spa trip, only the spa gave out Xanax and played John Carpenter movies 24/7.
Finally back home and relatively settled after the Thomas Fire of oh-17. Oy. I know I don't comment here much but I sure do read a lot of your comments and I find you all to be a fun, lighthearted lot. With opinions! Oh the opinions! Happy new year, here's to a way better oh--18. The bar's really low, new year! Bring it! :)
I live in Santa Barbara and had to evacuate because of the Thomas Fire. Bought SOE the day this damn fire started and have pretty much had it on repeat since. Maybe the situation has added an extra layer of depth to the music for me, but I’m finding it a pretty special album. It might not be groundbreaking but for a band this far into their career it’s pretty damn solid. I doubt I’ll ever be able to listen to it and not think of this scary, uncertain time.
