I grew up in close proximity to El Paso and even though at the time I was much more into the rap and nu metal you mentioned, this thing was everywhere. It didn't click for me until probably 6 or 7 years later, but having those memories of people freaking out about it when it came out helped me dive in when I was ready. Such a great and monumental effort. Side note: Besides Deloused in the Comatorium and a few on Frances the Mute, Jim Ward has written the best post-ATDI songs from that group of the musicians. We can argue about it if you'd like :)

This band has never missed. DOTB was one of my favorites in 2018. Loving the new sound and can't wait to hear the album. Love me some Nothing.

So many great Cohen covers this year. I still listen to FJM's quite a bit, but "Bird on the Wire" is one of my favorite Cohen songs. This is awesome.

Haha yeah, this was the first thing I saw this morning when I opened my phone and I almost shit the bed with excitement. I watched the streaming event and couldn't have been happier with the setlist. "Palaces of Montezuma" piano rendition; are you kidding me man?? I'll be picking up the vinyl, not ordering from his site though because of the $23 shipping cost.

So many people in here salty about Nas putting out a 3 mic album when apparently their entire happiness depending on him putting out a 5 mic album to the point that they're pretending it's a lot better than it is.

Snapshot of a Beginner will no doubt be on my year end top 25. "Child's Romance" is another plopper for sure.

Pretty much sums it up. There are some good songs on KD, and there are some god awful ones. I can't believe how bad the Anderson Paak song is. Overall, as you said, I'm pleasantly not completely repulsed.

Some of the best storytelling in rap history. Crazy to think the original I Am... tracklist would've had this, "Undying Love", and "Fetus" would've been on the same album. In my opinion he's the best concept storyteller in rap history. "One Love", "I Gave You Power", "Rewind"...the list goes on and on.

The Lost Tapes, Stillmatic, It Was Written, and God's Son are all truly great albums, and the rest have their highlights, but the rollercoaster he's taken us on through all these years is disappointing given his potential.

Both of you make very good points. Nas has had such an up and down career. I don't think the fact that he never did and never will reach illmatic heights again tarnishes his legacy, it's the drastic inconsistency and poor artistic choices that does that. If he was going to make an album with one producer, why the fuck would it be Hit-Boy? He has the clout to literally get any producer he wants for a project, and the long rumored full-album collab with Premier makes this fact sting even more. His constant reach for radio crossover hits is painful coming from one of the best street rap emcees ever. Someone should've told him many times to stay in his lane, but I'm sure that's hard to do to someone who made the greatest rap album ever.

What a great week! METZ, FJM, and especially ERR/Thou all blew me away. “‘I had a dream and you were in it’/ Is all you had to say” is a quintessentially crushing FJM moment. That's been stuck in my head all week. It's so perfect.

Yeah, I've listened to it about 6 times total, three at home and three in the car on the way to work this morning. It definitely sounded better in the car. Historically the singles for Deftones records have sometimes taken time to grow on me (I'm thinking "Leathers" and "Tempest", also "Prayers/Triangles") so I'm sure over time it will wear me down in a good way.

August 21, 2020 on Deftones – “Ohms”
It's an enjoyable Deftones song but it'll never be amongst my favorites. I feel like it would be better as a middle of the album song rather than the one bringing it all home. One of the things I love so much about Gore is how strong it ends; the last three songs really just continue to pummel and build into this incredible swirling chaos, so we'll see how "Ohms" fits into the album in that regard.
