A Magnificent Day For An Exorcism by th1rt3en (Pharoahe Monch) is easily the best rap album this year. He’ll never get his due even though he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. Doe or Die II by AZ also deserves a mention.
I watched the entire thing and was live tweeting it, had a lot of fun interactions. Much in the way that you’re a Three 6 super fan, I am for Bone. I had E. 1999 Eternal on fucking cassette, and I used to pull the sleeve out and draw all the pictures on it. I was obsessed. That said, I scored it 8-10-2 for Three 6, but that’s only because Bone left off A LOT of their better songs. They didn’t even play “1st of the Month” for fucks sake. All I’m all it was one of my favorite verzuz shows, and I really hope that Bizzy line makes a crack into meme-dom because it’s hilarious.
He took his assault rifle into the heat knowing full well what would happen. People of color are shot and killed by the police for nothing and this piece of shit murdered two people with no repercussions. You can fuck right off bud.
Just want everyone here to know that El Goodo is a Rittenhouse sympathizer. He doesn’t think that the little white supremacist piece of worthless putrid shit did anything wrong.
It would be hard for anyone to follow Ironman and Supreme Clientele, and while BW definitely feels like a slight step down, it’s still Ghostface Killah doing what Gostface Killah does best, through and through. The man has the most consistently good discography in the history of rap music.
Some people around here, specially one that rhymes with blokehearty, were very adamant that Skeleton Tree was nearly complete when Arthur passed and that all of the lyrics were already written despite very specific references to Cave’s “blue eyed boy” and other plain-as-the-fucking-day references to his death and the coping that followed. Ellis’ statement here proves they were still very much in the writing process when the tragedy happened.
Still reading, but wanted this to be at the top:
“ There was a lot of stuff I’d forgotten about from the Skeleton Tree sessions. It was such a particular experience, being in the studio with Nick. His son Arthur had just died. Going back through that, it was interesting to see how much stuff we actually did do. I remember working a lot. We worked a lot to try and elevate the demo versions of things we took in there.”
Huh. Skeleton Tree sessions, a particular experience because Arthur had just died. Would you look at that. WOULD YOU FUCKING LOOK AT THAT.
The ERR/Thou collaboration was one of my favorite albums last year. Very excited for this, could very well end up in my year end list. I’d be surprised if it didn’t.
I saw RATM in October of ‘07 in Las Vegas and the same exact thing happened to me as far as the crowd being completely out of control as soon as “Testify” hit. I was so hot and couldn’t breathe so I was trying to get my shirt off, but I couldn’t get my hands up over my head because of how packed in the crowd was. Like you said, I wasn’t jumping but the whole crowd was so my feet left the ground dozens of times. Crazy feeling. It loosened a little as the songs went on and I stayed in it but it was a fight to survive the whole time. One of the most exhausting experiences of my life.
Hey Scott, go ahead and publish this as the CHRISTFUCKER Premature Evaluation.
Well said Lobster and I’m right with you. Everything they’ve done is amazing and they keep getting better and more interesting.
Moved into a new apartment today in one of my favorite parts of this city. Looking forward to not having to take a $30 Uber or Lyft to get to some of my favorite spots now. Only thing is o have way too much shit, mostly music instruments and equipment, and I’m not sure how I’m going to do this 🥴
I saw them at Ohana fest two years ago and this was pretty much how it went then as well, and just like Chris, I didn’t care at all. It was magical and I loved every second.
Yeah you can tell some of it is from that time period. Basically all these songs are from 2006-present I think, so it’s Bad Seeds songs heavily influenced by Warren Ellis as he became a more integral part of the writing process (obviously that’s great news). Really, there’s songs all over the place from menacing to abstract to absolutely beautiful. Very pleased with the entire thing.
