The Circle of Fifths, you say? https://thecircleoffifths.wordpress.com/
Gah damn, I love when that happens.
Fuck, that's perfect. When I'm attempting to write my own music I always forget that simple is very often the best route.
If i was a member of Pledge, a band from Portugal that resides in Portugal, I wouldn’t be so angry all the time, I wouldn’t keep it all inside, and I’d let you know how much I love you every day.
Heyyyy I posted this in The Month In Hardcore but just want to plug this one more time. I had the pleasure of interviewing the hardcore/post-hardcore band Pledge from Portugal, the band responsible for my front-runner for album of the year, Haunted Visions. Give it a look see if you haven’t already! https://thecircleoffifths.wordpress.com/2021/07/14/the-circle-of-fifths-interview-with-pledge/
Two Lingua Ignota singles, neither of which made the 5 best songs of the week. https://media.tenor.com/images/eea5a07495e713b8b638462cc89fc28a/tenor.gif #trippin
Thank you! And thanks for reading.

The best article of every month! I had the great privelage of doing an interview with Pledge, the hardcore/post-hardcore band from Portugal whose album that came out at the end of May, Haunted Visions, is my clear front-runner for album of the year. Check it out: https://thecircleoffifths.wordpress.com/2021/07/14/the-circle-of-fifths-interview-with-pledge/
Obviously this is a very polarizing release, but I don't think anyone is pushing too hard in either direction. Most people who don't like it have said why, and most people that do like it have said why, both of which have added to an interesting discourse. I can only speak for myself but I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion on it.
...which says a lot about Vince Staples.
Yeah but Some Rap Songs is A LOT more interesting than Vince Staples.
I'll echo some sentiments in here one more time: It's good, I like it, but it's also very underwhelming when you consider what he's done and what he's capable of. It feels a lot like FM! in the "mixtape" sense; just some loose thoughts with a similar theme. Yes, I've heard the lyrics.
I was going to weigh in on this take but it's hard for me because it feels like apples and oranges. Nirvana was edgy and depressing, "Everlong" is hopeful and encompasses that feeling of new love perfectly. If I force the comparison, I'd still pick about 10 Nirvana songs over it, I think.
https://media.tenor.com/images/099fd2d11d353f222889d4199d33b1c7/tenor.gif As someone who has listened to Time & Space in high frequency since its release, this is disturbing.
It's about the beauty of LIFE and LOVE and MOTHERHOOD, not SEX, you filthy HEATHEN. #tiddy
I was going to say bewbs but there's only one sooooooo Titty.
I know all of you silly geese are going to be jamming that Sob Rock.
I'm not a Metallica fan on this level, but I also want absolutely nothing to do with this whole project. It suuuuuucks.
As I’ve been saying, I like it and I’ll listen to it, just don’t think it’s anywhere close to what he’s capable of.
It’s fine, glad he’s not just trying to make “bangerz” and doing whatever he wants to do, it just doesn’t have the same impact as his best stuff. Yes, I can hear the lyrics and what he’s saying, doesn’t matter, it’s more of a tape just like FM! was. It’s hitting me just like the Deafheaven singles - “this is fine, but nowhere near the level of the past stuff”
You think I can't hear the fucking lyrics? Don't be so condescending. And you really think this is better than Summertime 06 huh? Okay dude.
It's pretty clear. It's as clear as the Deafheaven singles not being as good. Still good, still enjoyable, just not as good or enjoyable.
First premature impression based on one listen is that it's not as good as Hell Can Wait, Summertime 06, Primma Donna, or Big Fish Theory, but it is much better than FM! and the singles he released after that. I think the production is a big part of it. He had amazing producers when he was rolling through those first four - No I.D. is the secret sauce behind why Summertime 06 is so great and no one talks about it. These beats aren't bad per se, but they're too simple to create a deep, dynamic atmosphere like Summertime 06 or Big Fish Theory, and that's where Vince thrives.

Yeah, you, Lobster, and The Month in Hardcore/Metal articles brought me over to the darkside. Hardcore and post-hardcore is my most listened to genre these days, and the one I get most excited about.
I listened to both singles twice in a row and then put OCHL on and yeah, so much is missing from the new songs. *big sad face*
(by "them", I mean the screams)
It's funny because the screams were very hard for me to get over back when Sunbather came out, to the point that I didn't officially become a big fan until New Bermuda, and apparently in the time since I've come to love them oh so dearly and I'm damn proud of it haha. The great heavy music community we have here is surely to blame.
Much better than the first, still not quite scratching the itch.
Well, if you think making the SUD top ten is my goal, you clearly haven't seen me in rare form. LOL.
I thought this had something to do with Goya beans for a second there.
"Summertime" is one of his best songs so I'm down for more in that style. FM! and after have been pretty underwhelming, here's hoping this new album regains the steam he had in his first few years.
Shit man, sorry if I’ve ever caused you any problems with my own dumb assholeness on here. I hope things start looking up soon. Hang in there.
