I'm not happy about it but I think you're underrating how beloved + influential XXX is in some circles
Great great interview Pranav. AOTY incoming.
Between Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Highway 61, sounds like he played with guitarist Michael Bloomfield a decent amount. Some great stuff on those Butterfield albums. RIP.
Great read. Lana in the same week as Joe Rogan/Neil Young and Morrissey/Marr, this could be a banner week for normal comments.
so sorry for your loss. hope you get the space and time you need to grieve.
Jay going to bat for DAMN., that's taste bro!
Today seems like a good time to revisit MAGDALENE. As much as I love twigs, that album never quite clicked for me despite its obvious beauty. When it comes down to it, M3LL155X is my favorite project of hers, so I'm intrigued to hear how this mixtape sprawls out in contrast.
FYI Ohmme rocks and they are definitely not Spencer Tweedy's band
still waiting on someone to find the Alchemist + Earl project that they claim to have anonymously uploaded to youtube...
"Valentine's Day" is a great choice though. The Next Day remains underrated in the shadow of Blackstar.
At this point I know he's a separate guy who's friends with Nick Cave, but every time I read Warren Ellis I first think of the (now disgraced) Planetary / Authority comic book author.
he's right about that Peter Gabriel album. would love to hear a new PG album this decade if possible.
So sorry for your loss Bix. Feels good to know you loved Hamburger Mary's too - I had many a great meal with friends at the Andersonville location before it closed last year.
That VMAs performance of "Gett Off" is an all-timer. Who else could put ALL THAT on stage and still command your attention?
Very bittersweet that this is the last Prince hit in the series. RIP to one of the greatest.
He was just getting started. Drakeo was a voice like none other and he will be missed. If you’ve never heard Cold Devil I hope you enjoy one of the best albums of the last ten years.
other highlights: Rico brought out Queen Key to perform "My Way" and Danny brought out DJ Spinn and footwork dancers The Era for a mini-footwork set, including some of his own moves.
hell yeah go D2x and Mother Nature
"Animals" from Compton is still one of the best Anderson .Paak tracks out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYpO3JO70Qg&ab_channel=CristianoMeneses
“Santa’s Beard” by They Might be Giants and “Another Lonely Christmas” by Prince! Great list, especially the Tom Waits.
This album has grown on me all over again after learning the Prince connection, and I realized that "Underneath It All" is one of my favorite songs period this summer. RIP Robbie!
ha I just galaxy brained trying to figure it out then. totally agree! DJ Manny's is my favorite of the bunch, but I need to spend more time with Jana Rush.
that makes my day. please holler back!
(I believe Double Cup is the footwork album that Miles is alluding to in his Jana Rush blurb since "Just A Taste" features a sample of someone saying "I don't give a fuck" much like Rashad's track titled "I Don't Give A Fuck")
Jlin just dropped a new EP today! And if you haven't heard more footwork, check out DJ Rashad's masterpiece Double Cup too.
omg can't wait to hear this.
Love the Damon Locks & Black Monument Ensemble album. By the end, it sounds like the cicadas are part of the music too.
I love that TNOCS now features a throwback to old TNO columns
beans, I still don't get TWOD but I'm gonna give this new one a try today in your honor
