Yeaaaa... probably my favorite performace they've done of this song.... and that's saying a lot, because I scour Youtube for every performance I can find of this song.
Great great setlist. It's funny.... his encore was comprised of 3 songs that are all the last songs on his records.... "Let's Not Shit Ourselves" (last song on Lifted.... "Road To Joy" (last song on I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning).... and "One for You, One for Me" (last song on The People's Key)....
The part where he throws the bird is really cool, by the way.
Is this not Ireland? Everyone is saying Iceland.
I didn't like the song until I saw this video. Now I like the song. I think this video is really great. It's refreshing to see that Kiedis still has a very entertaining stage presence.
That video is awesome. I love it. It's very well-done. And the song is obviously great.
Is it because you feel like you are in a dentist office? That's how I feel. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing.... I think I like it a lot. I love the whole record and "Beth/Rest" I can see possibly growing on me.
Loving it.
Well, every music publication covers Kanye West. So Stereogum shouldn't cover him? Stereogum should only cover the bands no one has heard of? Why?
He never seizes to put me in the best mood ever. And I just like the way he writes. He seems to use a lot of harsh "s" sounds in his lyrics, which gives the rhythm more direction. And he puts a lot of emphasis on his "s"s when he sings them. Especially in "My Night With the Prostitute from Marseilles". I don't know if anyone knows what I am talking about. I like it a whole lot.
Gotcha. Cool. "Calgary" is really incredible, in my opinion. I think I started really really liking it when I trekked over to songemeanings.net to review people's opinions of what the lyrics are. I think it's probably the most obscure song he's written, if you are excluding Volcano Choir. He most definitely comes up with the most interesting way to word everything he's talking about, which kind of reminds me of Cormac McCarthy or something, where you put an adjective in front of noun that wouldn't typically make sense, but makes sense in context. Which I love. And I totally knew he uses auto-tune all over For Emma, which I didn't recognize until I heard Deyarmand Edison and solo Vernon stuff. His voice is most definitely more live-sounding on his earlier year records. And I guess I was thinking his voice is more auto-tuned on Calgary (which it really isn't) than it appears on For Emma, but I guess that's because the instrumentation in Calgary is a lot more "synthy" and Peter Gabriel-ish than it was on For Emma, which makes it sound even more produced-sounding. To add to the Cormac McCarthy lyrical comparison, I think more along the lines of what I was trying to describe is how both Vernon and McCarthy use nouns as adjectives, which adds a very interesting rhythmic swoon to the vocals. I think Vernon also uses a lot of assonance, which sounds like rhyming, but never Seussical (obviously).
Sorry, I meant "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" by Bon Iver.
Are you sure? If that's true, then why is it just "Bon Iver" on Amazon and Wikipedia? Where are you seeing that it's "Bo, Iver, Bon Iver" by Bon Iver?
WOW. Such a great performance. Robin's voice sounded so incredible. My favorite part was when he did the "Ooooo oooo ooo" after "I'll have so much to tell you about it". And the 2nd chorus was pitch-perfect when he sang "...to attain it" at 3:30. WOW. The guy has got some pipes.
Why did I get thumbs down? I love Robin Pecknold. And I love Devendra even more.
I don't know if I can say this without a Stereogum Commenter hitting me on the head with their keyboard... but.... Robin Pecknold kinda reminds me of Devendra Banhart a little bit. He's got a good beard. Had long hair, and then cut it. Has a wardrobe of grampa-hand-me-downs, mainly cool argyle sweaters. Draws inspiration from some similar places, mainly Van Morrison. They both have this ethereal vibe about them, as if they're more organic than earth itself. Robin Pecknold is just more easy for me to relate to, because he's NOT a goofy crazy man with probable ADD.
I bet that happens quite a bit.
I'm pretty sure that this video will start off my morning every morning for the next few months. I am in love with it.
Sean Pecknold is so good at making amazing videos. And Fleet Foxes are so good at making amazing music. I am siked for this album... and no!! I am not going to get the leaked copy! I am waiting.
Wow. That was insane. I'm surprised there isn't already more hype over this video. Typically, stuff like this blows up instantly on Stereogum. I've watched it twice now - there is so much more I caught and understood the 2nd time I watched it.
They both do a lot of covers. I didn't mention that.
She reminds me a lot of Mark Kozelek. Both of them take incredible songs that can often be upbeat and they bring the song into a different light, making it a lot more dissonant and beautifully haunting.
I can't wait to see the movie. Anyone seen it?
I really do wish you would write more articles for Gum. You should run down some interviews with Robin Pecknold and Justin Vernon and Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams.
My favorite part of the article: "Talking to him, one gets the impression that Conor Oberst is a person who spends a lot of time actively trying not to be a jerk." I have noticed this in his lyrics and the way that he talks to people in interviews. I feel like I can really relate to Conor on that. I say less than one percent of the things that go through my head, because I fear I might hurt someone's feelings or someone will twist my words to get hurt by them. This article is most likely going to make me like The People's Key a lot more. I will say, I haven't entirely enjoyed the album. But the last song, "One for You, One for Me" seems very much like a nod to "Easy/Lucky/Free", which is always a good thing in my book. Great article, T Cole Rachel. Easily the best I've ever come across on Stereogum.
"That effortless cool and uncaring...." Wow. Terribly worded. It should read, "...cool and uncaring attitude...", perhaps? You guys should hire me. The guy who wrote this review seemed uncaring.

Wow. Typo city. Good review. My qualm with the album is that Julian's vocals are too high in frequency or something. I feel like I'm listening to it with the treble turned up too high or something.
That was such a fanboy comment. But seriously, I feel like he just really sure of himself all the time.
That was incredible. I think Chris Taylor stands out among every one in music these days. I feel like he is always pumping out interesting songs that contain ethereal aesthetics.
Typo... you put "Fightened Rabbit" in the title.
I plain just don't know what I think of Kanye. I'm pretty sure I don't like him anymore though. I think his lyrics don't really have any direction, but I want to be interested in what he's doing. Maybe there's something I'm not seeing?
It's "Beth Cosentino", not "Consentino".
The cover of the album says, "Come on feel the Illinoise".
"Austin Davis" was replying to "lalalalala", not you.
Whoa. That is way too weird that you just said that. I was literally thinking, "Man, I could really go for some Dippin' Dots right about now." And then I looked to see what the comments were and you wrote that. Anyways, this video is so amazing. This is my favorite from Merriweather for sure.
