It’s a win-win! New Taylor Swift music, AND I get to see the indie snobs here get told off!
I love the Pet Shop Boys. Also, I'd never heard Take Me Home but that is worth the 10 for sure.
I just say "You look like Bob Saget." Damn if it makes sense, it rhymes and it isn't a slur and technically it's still an insult.
My dad fucking loves Falco (his favorite is "Vienna Calling") and he turned me on to this song in particular. I love it deeply. It's a 10. So's "99 Luftballons." So are both versions of "Der Kommisar." And so is "I'm a Playa," which I'd never heard of before this column and am now obsessed with (I adore how it references the remix version that goes through the entire history of Mozart AND Falco. Tech N9ne knows his deep cuts! I'll admit I'm not as familiar with his oeuvre, but "Aw Yeah? (Intervention)" is a brilliant song).
"Layla" goes fucking hard and that's all because of Dead Allman Brother and in spite of Clapton
That’s terrible. So much still ahead of him.
Y'know what? This isn't all that bad, for the Grammys. Wish Fiona Apple was up for Album of the Year too, but hey, can't have everything.

If Broadway shows can spend a week being inclusive of people on the spectrum sensitive to loud noises and flashing lights, what's to stop film sets from following suit? It's not that big of an ask. You'd figure she'd have learned about this stuff in her three years of research.

I’m on the spectrum and I’ll admit I was very pissed off with Sia doing it. Every excuse she makes is horseshit and the exact kind of tokenizing/using “good intentions” to excuse all faults that we’re collectively trying to move away from. Sia is completely at fault here, and every one of her excuses has an easy rebuttal (for instance: you could still cast an autistic person even if they aren’t non-verbal. RJ Mitte III doesnt need crutches in real life, but he DOES have cerebral palsy, and he killed it in Breaking Bad. Maybe she could’ve adjusted the schedule and environment on set to be more mindful of what would seriously discomfort someone on the spectrum? I just don’t know how she doesn’t see the issue here).
Fantastic article! Just looked through other indie artists on Spotify to see if there are similar examples. Would "O Children" being Nick Cave's #1 song be an example?
Ball's in Beyonce's court to thank me for calling "Freedom" the best song of 2016 in my high school newspaper.
I'm interested in how much she commits to it. Every single song, rerecorded, from the classics to the crap.
My comment disappeared. I stand by my 1 for this song, but again, to each their own.
I'm honestly kind of astonished at how high that grade is. This is a 1 for me. I hate this song deeply. Just something generally about the sound ticks me off. But to each their own!
Bizarre but fun. Nothing'll ever quite recapture the lightning in a bottle that was "Old Town Road," but this is perfectly fine.
Strong agreement/disagreement is part of the fun of the game. Like how "Hey Jude" strikes me as an obvious 10 and "When the Last Teardrop Falls" absolutely doesn't, but I don't write the thing and opinions are opinions.
Every drummer wants to be Phil Collins. It's a fact and nobody admits it but it's true.
It's been a fun ride I'm glad to be on!
Aw hell, I like this one. Can't defend it. I just do.
I don't really get why people think "Streets" is an unbelievable classic but "Beautiful Day" is a slog when I think they're on the same tier of awesomeness. Then again, I also enjoyed Songs of Innocence so at this point I'm a hopeless U2 fan.
Good luck getting Marc Anthony: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/marc-anthony-slams-trump-new-lincoln-project-ad-vote-him-n1245474
Gonna just try it without the links, do your own research: OK, so I'm convinced you just have something against NSP, because they have enough material to fill every '80s Bonus Beats and yet they never show up here. Their cover was the first exposure I had to their wild and wacky world, and while I prefer their originals, Danny obviously killed this one: [NSP's version of Take on Me - look it up! It's great, even if he doesn't hit the big note.] One of those platonic ideals of an '80s song. You hear it once, you never forget it. All the best elements of cheesy '80s pop, streamlined and shiny and tight. Hooks on hooks. 9/10 for sure. For our little Eurovision connection, Morten Harket co-hosted the 1996 edition in Oslo. He was apparently hesitant to take the gig (A-ha are one of the few Norwegian acts you could reasonably call too big for Eurovision), but then they promised him he could [advocate for] his latest single, "Heaven's Not for Saints." He seemed to get into the swing of things during the show, but that certainly helped. The trend continued the next year when it was co-hosted by Boyzone's Ronan Keating, whose bandmates joined him for the interval act. (Side note: '96 might be the best edition of Eurovision ever. '90s New Age obsession with dashes of contemporary pop and wild experiments in often-underrepresented genres at Eurovision. Here are a few highlights - note Lucia [last name redacted cuz letters] representing Portugal, six years before playing Colin Firth's love interest in Love Actually:) [This is where you'd find the clips of the entries of Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Turkey, and the UK. Look 'em up!]
One more time - if this doesn't work, something's up. I mentioned the lady who represented Portugal in '96 and her last name includes the three letters I thought the filter system looked past now.
I just realized what probably happened with the comment - those three pesky letters. Let's try again! "Beautiful Day" still slaps
What happened to my comment with Eurovision and NSP? I posted a whole thing and it just disappeared
(Also shout-out Teeny Little Super Guy, one of the best segments on Sesame Street)
Tierra Whack paying homage to Jim Henson and Sesame Street makes me very happy, but I'll be pedantic and say he didn't create Sesame Street. He was a key element of its success, of course, but Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett are the people you really want to thank for its existence.

I'll admit, I'm not much of an album listener. I have ADHD so it's hard for me to really focus on things for an extended period of time. But airplane flights with fancy in-flight on-demand music selections are always a good excuse to just focus on album after album. That was how I heard Stankonia, after already being in love with "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B." Start to finish, it might be my favorite album ever, save for maybe The Stranger or Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). It's just brilliant in every way. Even the skits are gold.
Where did you all come from??
Remember those three years when Lil Wayne was kinda impressive? Feels like a century ago.
