You might recognize me as the very same muffinman that you recommended albums to on the St. Vincent article.
I have only given the Pillow Queens album its due listens so far, but it is pretty great and Brothers is a jam (not the only one). It is a familiarly lovely sound, but with a much fuller band than what usually accompanies it and it can be both soothing and cathartic and I appreciate the recommendation.
Fun stuff, I can always appreciate an economic album that I can go through three times in a row like it's nothing. There is a lot of different bands they remind more of sonically, but I fell like the singer's energy kind of reminds me of early on Bono. I also can't remember the last time I heard a band reference their own name this much and that's always fun.
Thank you so much everyone. This is my favorite kind of homework and about first glance I do not think I have listened to any of the albums suggested in their entirety, so this will be great. Thanks again.
I could use a new St. Vincent album. Speaking of which I haven't had time to find a new album that stops me in my tracks a little since the newest Sufjan, any suggestions?
Maybe because in this case putting his name in the headline would only serve as free publicity for him. It would be much more likely to result in his stock rising than falling.
Well that is upsettingly disappointing. It is not really about whether it is surprising or not. Shia seems to have lived his life surrounded by abuse and other toxic behavior, so no this is not shocking news, but you want these people to survive and successfully break these cycles and you definitely do not want others like FKA to fall victim to abuse. These kind of behaviors are in no way justified and there is no defending what any abuser puts their victims through, it just sucks when people can't or don't address their own trauma and correct their behaviors before they propagate that ugliness they have been plagued with.
I don't know I just got to that first RHCP Episode (I recently decided to catch up on the entire series starting from the first U2 episode so it has been quite a binge), and that episode felt like such a chore to them, I don't think you can blame them for you getting into them because they definitely did not sell it.
My comment wasn't about him publicly denying the accusations, it was including that Lavely & Singer is his representation in that statement. I don't remember most people including their representation in these statements so to me him name dropping Lavely & Singer only makes sense as an intimidation tactic. Lavely & Singer do not invoke the connotation of representing innocent clients so it does not seem like he includes this information to appear more innocent. However, the names Lavely & Singer do connote being powerful Hollywood attorneys that handle the problems of the rich and famous no matter what.
I think it is okay for our opinions to vary case-to-case based on the evidence that has been provided to us. You pointed out Weinstein and Louie CK as examples but like you said it is well documented that a very large group of people had knowledge of the behavior or at the very least rumors of the behavior of these two. I don't have information that tells me his behavior was well known. It is completely possible that all of his collaborators were aware he was assaulting women, but I don't know if it is the right move to assume every entertainer is aware of or should be aware of everything a collaborator has done outside of public accusations, until we are presented with or find evidence other wise.
Shamir worked with a director that ended up being accused of abuse but I do not group him in with people knowingly signing on to a new Woody Allen movie.
Shamir's situation isn't identical to Beyonce's either and he had a much more active response than Beyonce's lack of a response (to the best of my knowledge).
I just don't now if I personally have enough information to assume Beyonce was aware that this guy was a rapist and decided to ignore that and collaborate with him anyway.
I am open to new information though if you have something outside of everybody in entertainment knows all the bad stuff about everyone else in the entertainment business.
Now that I have you here, as new co-owner of Stereogum I just wanted to speak on behalf of the people who donated and say I would prefer you drop the compilation on streaming services eventually. It'll be cool to have it as an exclusive for a little bit, but I don't think we are big enough blockheads that we would be made if other people git to hear the songs eventually and honestly it'd probably just be added convenience for most of us. Couldn't you guys pull a small amount of revenue from the streams as well?
I agree with the defense of Beyonce, but I don't think you need to entertain the competitive aspect of her and Kendrick. Wasn't Kendrick protesting? Doesn't Kendrick have a pretty good track record for putting his money towards causes that help his community and making boldly socially conscious music? Kendrick is generally pretty quiet on social media, but I don't really think we need to measure these artists or black celebrities in general against each other in this way.
Well Chris not only did you do a great job answering my questions, but those sound like the best possible answers as well! Also am I both an idiot and a square for reading "if you're on EDT" as being on a drug that keeps you up all night the first time I read it?
Who has been to primavera? Their lineups are always great but I always wonder about the set up. Is it all in one area like a Bonnaroo? Do they have very late set times so you can catch a good amount of the artists? What does Wednesday look like with only 4 bands?
The nice thing about not being a fan of Bryan Adams or Ryan Adams is that I don’t have to remember which is which when there is news of one of them doing something dumb
