Why was Rosalia not in best songs of the week as well? Travesty.
I still own (possess) files on hard drives that came from Napster originally. One of which may or may not be Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The wild west of the internet, those were the days. RIP.
This is sort of along the same lines as what Taylor was trying to do with ME, but actually a lot more fun, and hits a much sweeter spot. The video is funny too. However, I probably won't listen to it again.
This is a bit all over the place. Never really settles. I can't see it being a hit. It just doesn't slap enough.
The production on this is actually pretty good, and am I hearing things, or is D.R.E.A.M. actually pretty bloody good? Pity about Ghostface sounding so tacked on at the end though.
Getting serious Out Hud / New Young Pony vibes
Yas Queen! This came up in my Google Discover this morning (what can I say, my google knows me well), and unlike a new video by literally anyone else, I clicked play on this thing immediately. She continues to bring the goods. I am thinking of learning Spanish to further my appreciation of her work.
Wrong. The Lykke Li song is leagues ahead of this generic pap.
Judging by the amount of comments on this piece already, for a comments section on a music site, y'all like to talk about politics, don't you?
I'm so glad to see some love for All My Happiness is Gone! His lyrics are just operating on another plane compared to any other current rock lyricists I can think of. "Double darkness falling fast" is such a good line, among so many. Any the song itself is maybe one of the catchiest he has ever released? Not that I don't love their shaggier stuff, but this more straightforward sort of song writing with hooks and propulsion really adds emphasis to the words.
Do it! Tour forever! Even if they need to get rid of Scott Kannberg and replace him with Neil Finn eventually.
I love Bill Callahan with all my heart, but these songs are pale imitations of his best work (emphasis on imitation - half the melodies here sound cribbed from older better songs he's written).
And here was I thinking vintage synths were only good for tripping fuses.
It's a bit gross of him to include details of what was something private between the two of them in a very public memoir. He story could actually be legit, but it's bad taste to talk about it, and he deserves her hitting back in such a way. Then again, he might be insane and completely fabricating the whole thing to sell more books.
"The beat sounds like a 60 something year old producer's idea of "hip hop influenced"" Exactly, hit the nail on the head. I think of all the sixties/seventies classic rock artists, Neil Young has most of all been able to keep his production sound organic and fresh and not dated. That being said, Bowie did a pretty good job as well - although some of his late 90s/ early 2000's output (Hours, Heathen) sounds a bit dated now.
The song itself could have been pretty good, but the production sounds like some of the more dated aspects of All That You Can't Leave Behind era U2, which is not a compliment in this case. That delay effect on the vocal in the chorus - ugh.
I love Kanye, but I could do without hearing his opinion on anything ever again. Just shut up and release some new music already.
Damn Bryan Ferry would have made a much better Elton John than Reginald Dwight, he should have auditioned for that instead.
Gosh I forgot about Ben Harper. I always meant to get into him, back in the year 1998 or something, I think Rolling Stone kept plugging him. Ah well, I guess it's too late now.
Bennie and the Jets fucking slaps. Also, I am not looking forward to this biopic coming out. There should be a prohibition on making biopics of those who are still living. Better still, a total prohibition on all music biopics. Except for Dewey Cox.
"But if you like, you can watch the whole thing below" "But if you like, you can stab out your eyes with a nail file and fill the empty sockets with used chewing gum"
Came here to make this comment, minus the horny bit
Edina and Patsy used to make jokes about Roger Daltrey on Absolutely Fabulous back in 2000 or so, about how he'd gone soft, and owned a fish farm, so yeah, he's been pretty square for a fair while.
It would seem the who have not dun it for you
It's about time people started to get to grips with the fact that most of their favourite celebrities/artists are ignorant, selfish, egotistical, or just plain bad people, and then we can move onto just appreciating the one good thing they have to give the world which is their art and stop being surprised at all their mediocre opinions and dumb actions.
I wish we were still in the late sixties/early seventies when the great artists were releasing one album a year, sometimes minimum. Because I need more of Angel's music, and before the end of the decade would be ideal
Mine is Islands In The Stream which is about as country as Old Town Road, and the Gibb brothers are about as country as Lil Nas X
Paul Simon Le Bon Scott Walker, Texas Ranger
Wow, my first week of really trying out commenting on this site after more than a decade of reading, and I hit number one... most downvotes. My heel turn came quicker than I expected.
It's strange that her voice seems to be picked on as being strange or something, to the point where she has to bring it up as a peeve. In the pantheon of strange female voices that have gone before, hers really seems quite easily palatable. Maybe it is a sexist thing. Do men's voices get criticized in the same way as women's? Maybe not. So that sucks. Her voice is great.
Gosh that extended intro is very very sweet. The crowd were right to cheer. This is a really good song, it's a shame people seem to find it silly or a throwaway or something. Only downside, I've been finding Ezra's voice to be a bit pitchy on these live performances lately. Which is a shame.
This is catchy and will be very popular. That little falsetto vocal riff is fun. Ed Sheeran's font size is slightly bigger than Bieb's. What does this mean?
Thanks Ian, this article was excellent. A little dark in places, especially for a 35 year old indie fan like myself (everything you love eventually dies, gah I'm getting old), but it took me right back in a warm nostalgic way as well. In hindsight, it's interesting to note how dance music was super important to the indie-sphere at this point in time, and how much it has waned as an influence. If anything, Beach House seem like the outliers here, in that they were already making music that was timeless, and not subject to the whims of musical fashion that are eventually swallowed up by time. They're the only band on this line up that don't seem like a nostalgia act.
Gosh, I was being patently absurd. It wasn't a crack at Mac, or Mitski, or the article - just enjoying something completely ridiculous. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I agree, I was really taken by Puberty 2 and was excited for Be The Cowboy, especially after Nobody being such a killer single, but most of the rest of the album left me cold.
So.... The secret to his success is basically stealing titles from Mitski? Because that was my takeaway.
Joe Rogan haha? Alex Jones, I would pay that. But Joe Rogan? You guys need to choose some more dastardly heels.
