At the very least, he produced some good albums, "Let it Be" is my favourite Beatles album, minus the song "Let it Be" which I can't stand anymore. Also George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" is god-damn perfect and the production is gorgeous. That dude pioneered a way of thinking in terms of studio sound. Dr. Luke's music is garbage, genius in it popularity, but I cannot stand it.
Downvote? Okay? I was supporting robomalkmus in saying that, you know, hey it's TMZ, they've been known to create stuff out of nothing and speculate/start rumours with no basis in fact. Let's wait until these claims are supported by a more legitimate news source.
Yeah, reposting a TMZ article doesn't change the fact that it's a TMZ article.
Man, Snoop, whatchu been smoking lately?
I think she may have been referring to all the other bullshit Pink has been saying lately, and this may have just inspired her. But I agree, critiquing Madonna's work or just saying he doesn't like it wouldn't be misogynist unless he specifically stated that it was because she is a woman, did he? I didn't read the article and don't feel invested enough to do so, but who knows.
A comparable artist in both skill and creativity!
UPDATE: Am home visiting family for Canadian thanksgiving, went out for brunch yesterday. #TeamBrunch
I believe you're responding to me, it was confusing at first, as you just commented after me but I getcha. Yikes! Okay! Sorry, I admit, I never read into their music past the aesthetic appeal of it! I'm sorry! (Sorry, I'm Canadian, I say sorry from time to time, I do mean it though! I'm not trying to be snarky if thats what it seems like). I as a person am for the most part interested in production, I am interested in sounds, how they are created and their effect when put together. It is perhaps my greatest passion, and when I first hear music I am drawn in by the sounds. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate lyricism, but I admit it is not the thing that first catches me. So with their music, especially given the distorted, muddy, reverb-ed, etc. vocals, when I listen to it, to me they are just part of the soundscape of the piece. I am not a massive fan of Crystal Castles, at least to the degree that you clearly are and I haven't extensively followed Alice and her motivations behind her art. So for me, I just have never gotten deep enough into them to get to the stage where I read into or care about the meaning behind the lyrics (they don't make it easy either, with how processed, distorted and low in the mix they are). To me, they make catchy, hip, aggressive dance-oriented (or dance referencing) music that I enjoy listening to. I used the term "rave music" as it is often used, as a catch-all pertaining to simplified electronic dance music often played in underground clubs originating in the late 80's and early 90's (acid house, hardcore, etc). Do they not play club shows? isn't that a much better venue than a festival? Also I mentioned nothing about festivals, I'm not talking about like present-day edm and all that, Crystal Castles clearly at least take some inspiration from acts of the time period I just mentioned. Perhaps I should have referred to their music more precisely as acid goth-chip-tune-post-house? I also know a rave is an event, however at said events in the time period I am referring to, the music played generally shared many key characteristics in composition and production, thus making it ingenuous to use rave to refer to them all instead of defining every different type of music played at a rave. Thats the point of genres and classification, it simplifies the process of referring to music of similar sonic characteristics. Thus in retrospect, the term rave has also come to describe the music as much as the event itself and can be considered a genre in certain respects, you are nitpicking with that remark, and I don't believe you have justly done so. When all is said and done, I am happy you chose to engage with the discussion on this site and I for one, have just learned a whole new aspect of their music from your post. Thank you for making your first comment here contribute to a discussion that is worth having, after all, all most of us here want to do is engage and learn more about the music we enjoy and care about. One thing I will comment on is the tone and attitude of your piece, you didn't need to be aggressive and hateful towards me. I agree, that I was presumptuous with my statement of their music's value intellectually and politically, but I was open to learn and was aware of the possibility that I was merely scratching the surface. Instead of making another inflammatory internet anger comment you could have simply enlightened me. Oh and one last thing, about the whole "the content is there" thing, it may be there, but it is truly buried under piles of distortion and hip-vague-unintelligibility that in my opinion doesn't make her message the most clear. Perhaps thats a metaphor for oppression of thought and expression, but it feels like it detracts slightly from her message. Anyway, thanks, I learned something new today and wont soon forget it.
But at least its 1850 and you've got potatoes, right?
Yes I know thats the album title, I am confused as to what he means when he refers to it as "butt".
I pretty much exclusively cook eggs bacon and hash browns.... so it's a lot of brunch for me.
Tom what does "I thought Tyranny was butt" mean? I sincerely have no idea. I want to understand, help me understand!
I really liked them, their aesthetic and ferocity has always been an interesting thing to me. But calling her music: " an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others" Is ridiculous, they made rave music, what is empathetic about that? Her vocals were basically unintelligible distorted screams (which I loved) but I don't see how anyone connect to their music in any way other than a visceral one. Maybe others saw deeper than I.
It's not flattery when its a rip-off for a commercial to sell glasses.
Don Draper has infinitely more style than that, he would never commission knock off.
Dang, you'd think Ye would be jumping to work with FlyLo, being two dudes who are pushing the boundaries of music and pop music. He certainly missed out.
it was a joke, he misquoted the line. They "shut" down the site, not "turn" it down, "turning down" a website doesn't even make sense. I have seen every episode of Portlandia lol.
except Kanye has never repeatedly told some other act that played the same time as him at a festival to sick his dick and wrote a song about it. He rants, but he isn't this childish. C'mon, not even close to the same thing. If he was like a 25 year old front man in a rock band from the late 80's on coke and every other drug possible, this would be ok. He is 47.
Their band name is still the worst band name ever and I cant get over it.
Man I love "Starla" one of my favorite 'Pumpkins songs.
Thank you Miles, for ending your legendary silence on the matter!
YES THAT'S RIGHT, THE WORLD'S FIRST HUG REMIX, AND NO ONE COULD HAVE PREPARED HIM FOR WHAT CAME NEXT! CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT THE WHOLE STORY.
TIESTO RELEASES MONSTER MASSIVE HUG REMIX OF CHARLI XCX'S "BREAK THE RULES" BROUGHT TO U BY UR EDM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! EDM!!!!!!!! BANGER!
I assumed Tom did this piece before checking and was preparing myself for the "he's a dad and I'm a dad, we both have kids!" but alas Miles, you ain't no dad, or ARE YOU?
Wow, that was the best music video I've seen in a long time.
Yeah I know :( http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2013/11/Old-Kurt-Cobain.jpg
My point being, though he had a great and level-headed down to earth interview and seems more laid back, he's still a prankster who likes to goof around! And I love him for it :)
He did refer to himself as a "fartist" in a bio accompanying the Syro press release though, so theres that. http://pitchfork.com/news/56375-aphex-twin-reveals-amazing-syro-album-artwork-and-bio/
I'm interested too! Loved the debut, looking forward to giving this a thorough listen when I get the chance to.
"turgid chore of a new album" Damn, Tom, I love the way you use your adjectives ;)
It sounds a lot like survival tactis, can't tell if the sample is the same, but way similar, too lazy to check. Also does anyone care about Joey Bada$$ anymore? I really enjoyed 1999 but I have just gotten really bored with him putting out the same stuff again and again.
Man, Donny you were there, I love you papi.
Also, who wouldn't want to hold up Annie Clark? Would do anything 4 her.
