Congrats to the winners this week! Also, y’all who follow me on twitter know this, but I wanted to post it here but I’m back in America after having lived in Japan for 3 years. It was an amazing experience, but I’m glad to be back home :) one of the things I had missed most was being active here bc when I would log on it would be mostly when you guys were sleeping, so I couldn’t interact as much when conversations were active. But I’m hoping I can be a more active commenter again!!! Thanks to all of y’all for all of your support these past three years. I’ve had a lot of challenges and revelations and my support system here has been really important to helping me move forward in my life. So thank you 💖 Also, in other news, I’ve got a new Wren Dove Lark album on the way coming sooner rather than later which I’m so excited to share. If it’s all right, I wanted to give y’all in the comment section the first little taste of it. This track is one of the album’s deep cuts called “Killdeer.” I hope you like it. 💖 I’ll have more to say in a few weeks or so about the album. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iQZJLAKF8YnPlUmGZFPtgsPQ46bp6HUR/view?usp=drivesdk Love and light to all of you. Please stay safe ❤️ Bless
Is it perfect? No. But it's for sure the best song she's released since Bangerz. I love when she just lets her voice do its thing. ❤️Bless
Update: I liked it more on second listen through headphones so.... yeah. It’s still a lot, but they have more chemistry together now for me ❤️ Bless
Valid yeah thanks for expounding Appreciate your insights as always 💖 ❤️ Bless
She really did her best here to make this work, but 645ar’s flows sound awkward as hell. It’s not even the high pitch, its just like the really bizarre timing. It’s sad bc I’ve liked some of his stuff in the past and I was hoping this would do more for me. Maybe I’ve just got to listen again in headphones though. ❤️ Bless
I was really disappointed by him. I follow him on social media and I thought he would be someone who knew better than that. I’m sure it’s hard when you get most of your income from events like that, but everyone else has found a way to abstain, and he should too. ❤️ Bless
The correct response to society not realistically being able to keep this lockdown up as we are doing it now though is to demand that the government actually give regular people what they need to survive and be comfortable right now so they don’t feel as much pressure to go out, not to just accept mass transmission of this disease beyond what’s already happened and more preventable deaths of older and immunocompromised people. ❤️ Bless
She’s gonna change the world ❤️ Bless
This is her masterpiece. Idk if it’s possible to do better than this. I said the same thing about Red when it came out, but this is a good deal better than that. This sound is definitely her sweet spot. ❤️ Bless
The fact that the two interactions I’ve ever had with you in total on this website are 1. Saying something to you after you were rightfully called out for defending pedophiles who were attracted to teenagers And 2. Literally just making a comment about your peculiar choice to use the word “predatory” when describing someone who is releasing 8 different versions of her album with different album arts, which people have to literally consent to buy. Shows that you are someone who either doesn’t have the first clue about what is and isn’t predatory, or that there’s actually some deeper and more menacing goal regarding your desire to obfuscate language in that way. I’ve commented on here for like 6 or 7 years, and Sockner and I have criticized plenty of women in that timeframe. We get it. You are a really difficult and annoying person to have a conversation with online. 🙄 ❤️ Bless
I would absolutely love this record if it’s basically “Red” but in melancholy shades of gray instead of passionate warm colored hues. ❤️ Bless
To me the only “great” song on it was “Dress.” But it’s still not a top 10 Taylor Swift song. I’ll concede there was a lot of good songwriting on it but the production was so gaudy and cloying that it really distracted me from the lyrics. I’m glad she made it though, even though I just ignore it in terms of her discography, bc I’m a firm believer that you have to get the (sometimes bad) album that’s in your head out of your head to do the emotional work that releases you to be able to make the next (often way better) album. At least in my experience writing my own music—and a lot of my songwriting is really inspired by Taylor—I think that all of your work contributes to a foundation that anything which comes afterwards is built upon. Glad more songs from reputation work for you than they did for me. 💖 I def see the appeal of a lot of them even though they are not my favorite flavor of Taylor Swift song. ❤️ Bless
I wish that one had been the lead single as well. But I also know it was antithetical to the kind of stuff that was popular that year. If it wasn’t “Old Town Road” or trap music or whatever Billie Eilish called what she was doing, what was popular was weird twinkly juvenile spotify-core. Brendon Urie was fresh off his little popularity boost with “High Hopes” which I never want to hear again. I get that’s why she felt that “ME!” was the right single. I just wish she had elected to be more of a tastemaker instead of a trend follower. Maybe the label had a lot of influence in that decision. Idk. Prayers for this single being good though! I’m feeling hopeful! ❤️ Bless
I’m really excited for this. Taylor is at her best when she’s doing what she wants to do and following her muse where it leads her. The way she used “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as the door that helped her to unlock what made 1989 revelatory. And then used collaborations with Jack Antonoff like “Out Of The Woods” as sort of the basis that led her to “Lover.” I’m gonna briefly forget reputation exists. I’m just so intrigued to see what this one sounds like! I hope it opens another new door for her. Just praying it doesn’t sound like that “It’s Nice To Have A Friend” song from Lover. That’s one of the few songs from that record I didn’t like at all. ❤️ Bless
Predatory is a really big word to be using there. ❤️ Bless
Appreciate your insight always ❤️ Bless
This seems like the kind of thing where the misconduct is so much a part of the fabric of the institution that they have foregone the opportunity to “reform and do better.” With so many artists signed to the label implicated, and it seeming like this predilection towards pedophilia and grooming is very much in the culture of the company, “accountability” in this case should mean the label ceases to exist. ❤️ Bless
Sorry, The Chicks reunion album. My lizard brain hasn’t gotten used to the change yet. ❤️ Bless
I set myself up to be disappointed after reading this. Glad I listened anyways. This album is really pretty. The rest of the album reached the heights set by the lead single. The two singles after Gaslighter had me a bit worried, but this is all I could ask for from a Dixie Chicks reunion album. ❤️ Bless
HAIM - “Gasoline” all the way!!!!!! ❤️ Bless
The art is cool I wish the song was experimental or exciting or absurd enough to match it. ❤️ Bless
“Never Really Over” and “Daisies” were great singles. This hook ain’t really doing it for me. Thankful and grateful have the same meaning. Idk why she said “Scratch that” to then say something meant the same thing. ❤️ Bless
Go ahead and throw Taylor Swift’s “Red” as a really strong number 11. Honestly it may have been higher in my original list but I made a mistake in the order and I’m too lazy to retype the whole list again. But honestly aside from the fact M.I.A made the best album of the 2010s the rest of those could honestly go in any order they’re all so good. ❤️ Bless
Good to see you too! I’ll just be real spicy and post my top 10 albums of the 2010s. Idk if I got around to posting them here. 1. M.I.A - “/\/\ /\ Y /\” 2. SZA - “CTRL” 3. FKA twigs - “MAGDALENE” 4. Katie Dey - “asdfasdf” 5. Nicki Minaj - “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” 6. CHVRCHES - “The Bones Of What You Believe” 7. Sufjan Stevens - “Carrie & Lowell” 8. Black Dresses - “THANK YOU” 9. Charli XCX - “True Romance” 10. Noname - “Telefone” I had a really long long-list tho so it was hard to choose. ❤️ Bless
This was the best album of the 2010s PERIOD. ❤️ Bless
I’m just so alarmed and concerned by so many of the things you comment on various articles. Echoing superdonkeypiss, you need to stop. You need to get help. And I’m praying your heart changes so that you can see how ridiculous and oftentimes incredibly insensitive and offensive your comments are. ❤️ Bless
I pulled my groin muscles trying out a Bobaflex Ab-Lounge at a Dick’s Sporting Goods when I was in my early teens. One of the worst pains I’ve ever felt. ❤️ Bless
She’s simply one of the best. ❤️ Bless
Good morning from Japan y’all. Sending love and light. I’ve spent this whole week listening and learning from so many podcasts and videos of black thinkers and trying to work internally on myself and trying to reach all my white family and friends who can be reached. I had conversations about race with both my parents that actually seemed to go somewhere. Shamefully this is the first time this has happened. One of my black friends posted a Facebook Live video where she just really emotionally layed it on the line, things about racism she’s faced in her life, how she feels when these videos go viral, just all these really personal things which in a just world she would never Have to experience let alone tell all her white friends about in an attempt to get them to show one iota of empathy and put their word, energy, bodies, and money on the line to fight for black lives. I’ve realized just how little I’ve been doing and her words are etched on my spirit forever. There’s so much work to be done and we can’t let ourselves get overwhelmed and paralyzed by the sheer magnitude of what needs to be done to dismantle white supremacy and make a more equitable society. We’re never going to “do enough” but we can’t let it stop us from doing something. Let’s find the lanes where we can help and keep our energy up so that things actually get done. We cannot go back to the status quo. Love y’all. Here’s 5 albums by black trans artists which I bought and recommend on Bandcamp today. Lil Perc the Thot God - “CHIMERA (All for the Beast)” https://lilperc.bandcamp.com/album/chimera-all-for-the-beast She’s this amazing rapper from Baltimore. She makes really glitchy goth/emo hip hop music that deals with issues like suicidal it’s and grief from the loss of friends among other things. This is her brand new album which she has totally leveled up with. The production is immaculate and it’s her most catchy work yet. Backxwash - “God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It” https://backxwash.bandcamp.com/album/god-has-nothing-to-do-with-this-leave-him-out-of-it She just released this album last week, and I think it’s a defining work of our time. Amazing witchy rapper from Montreal. Banger after banger mixing classic hip hop sounds with just really insane witchy production elements and really cool samples from like sermons and stuff. It features Devi and Rook formerly of Black Dresses as well, Devi as a vocalist and Rook mastering and contributing some guitar work. Chloe Hotline - “CYNTHIA” https://chloehotline.bandcamp.com/album/cynthia She’s a really young artist out of Cincinnati who I think is turning pop music on its head. Reminds me a bit of 808s and Heartbreaks or early 2010s Drake. Some of the songs bring back memories of like Cassie’s “Me & U” I think she’s a really essential trans voice in music and more people need to be paying attention to her stuff. Sylken Somers - “Prone” https://grimalkinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/prone Their music is really hard to describe, but it’s really beautiful. Jazzy, electronic, R&B pop? It’s just gorgeous. And the label that they and Backxwash release their work on, Grimalkin Records, is an amazing record label we all need to support. Yakui - “Soultek” https://hrrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/soultek She’s truly one of the wildest producers out there. This album is CRAZY! It’s a tough listen at first but i recommend pushing through it and it really reveals itself as you go along. Just really harsh but beautiful electronic music. Her album from last year “Imni” is also amazing. Love y’all. ❤️ Bless
Accidental downvote! Glad you’re ok! Everything is so scary. ❤️ Bless
Admittedly, the last half is WAY better than the first half. Solid album overall which just takes a while to get started. ❤️ Bless
I’m like 6 songs in and it’s better than anything he’s made since Teenage Emotions, but I’m not sure he’s ever going to make anything as good as the original Lil Boat tape. That was a unique sound That has yet to be replicated. Now he’s making serviceable auto-crooner trap music. It’s fine. I just miss “Minnesota.” ❤️ Bless
This video and song was crazy and beautiful. I’ve never heard an orchestra deployed like this, although that could be due to a lack of exploration on my end, but still I just was in awe by the end. ❤️ Bless
I fucking love this haha. Best she’s sounded since 2011! ❤️ Bless
Why is she like this?! The last album was good enough that she doesn’t have to qualify her work in such a petty way by comparing herself to artists who literally have nothing to do with her. Why do I also have the feeling she’s going to become the JK Rowling of main pop girls? 🙄 ❤️ Bless
I've never heard of Lavender Diamond before but this song is really pretty. ❤️ Bless
She’s truly one of the best artists we’ve got. ❤️ Bless
Her best and most consistent project yet I think. In a just world, “Anthems” would be blasting out of every stereo in the world. I loved “Detonate” and “Party 4 U” as well as the singles. Those are my fave tracks, but not a single bad moment at all. Love that PC Music & co are going through a noisy phase. ❤️ Bless
This is the best “inspirational” type song shes made since “Firework” I think. Better than anything on “Prism” and “Witness” for sure. I’d love for her to be able to reach the highs of her “Teenage Dream” era, but be able to do to it without Dr. Luke’s involvement. idk if she’ll chart like did back then again bc I think that the mainstream has moved beyond her kind of pop sound a bit. But I’d just love that just as a career goal for her. ❤️ Bless
I hear a lot of what you’re saying! I disagree with Arca and SOPHIE being incomparable. Of course they’re experimental sometimes, but I think you can say Grimes is experimental like on the song “Scream” and the song that the same artist (FKA Aristophanes, but I forgot the new pseudonym she uses) arent really pop. By the same token, I think songs like “Immaterial” and “Desafio” as well as Sophie’s production work for Charli and Arca’s production work for FKA twigs as like “pop with a twist” in a very similar way to Grimes. But my comparison with those two artists specifically was more in the realm of like innovative sound design. I’ll give this album “Delete Forever” and “IDORU” and “You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around.” Good songs. I think “Delete Forever” is up there with her best. But the album as a whole just gives me heartburn, and I think I was just already exhausted with her and this album’s shtick after all the singles leading up to “Delete Forever.” Keep enjoying it though, friend! Hope you’re well! 💖 ❤️ Bless
