The real reason nobody cares about DIIV is Cole's insufferable self-regard. Even if certain things have changed since they were really hyped, his personality poisoned the well. Also their most well-known music was always boring and whether they've progressed or not, that once-trendy sound is dead as a doornail in 2019
The Unnatural World is fine but I think most would agree that Deathconsciousness is the important one, both qualitatively and in terms of the band's longstanding cult appeal
The Tom Waits stuff is mildly amusing but the alternate mix and sequencing of the Don't Tell A Soul material is just amazing. Real shame the songs weren't released like this originally.
I’m something of an MCR apologist, but I don’t think Bowie could have conceivably written lyrics like this... not to say that all of his are gems, but none are overbearing and bathetic in precisely this way.
Surprised to see the "Cowboy Overflow of the Heart" demo mentioned here rather than the more recent official Avalanches/Berman release that came from that collaboration, "Saturday Night Inside Out"
