I would dig that as well but unfortunately it's hard to do and maintain the necessary relationships with record labels and publicists... (Hence the need to resurrect a true contrarian voice like Hipster Runoff...)

Pleasantly surprised at how large a role he has on Fargo. He better not end up with a tire iron to the head or dismembered something else Fargoesque. (The story of the season, two episodes, in looks to be... a bit of a mess...? Clumsily shoehorned into another trendy racial history of America...)

This band and this album are all timers, of course, but there is still a prevailing sense of shortcoming around them, that they should have a bigger audience and wider acclaim. It's pointless inside baseball to speculate why. But I wonder what an alternate universe with them on a heritage American indie label, like a Merge or Matador, might have looked like.

Anything from the Broadcast archive is simultaneously welcome and hard to listen to in the wake of Trish's tragic early passing. This was a special band. Picked up their Future Crayon compilation on vinyl recently. Even their odds and ends loose tracks were touched with magic.

Fleetwood Mac like Steely Dan is one of those fine bands that certain corners of the internet likes to use as a cudgel to smash on the uninitiated over and over again to try to demonstrate their own (superior) taste.

One of those tweets that sounds clever at scrolling speed but makes no sense if you slow down and think about it for half a second (a similar popular reaction to a video does not make the videos the same genre).

Rock is great, but he can only really kill when he is completely uncensored. (But it's not the "bad" words themselves that are funny but how he punctuates his bigger ideas with them.)

Yeah not every human alive is going to test positive. It's actually more like 7000000000 x 0.004 (positivity rate) x 0.01 (death rate)... Crunch those numbers and maybe it'll help calm down your hysteria.

Johnny is the man, but don't be silly. It's a only an interesting instrumental without the lyrics and melody. With the lyrics and melody, it becomes transcendent.

Well this is welcome and unexpected. Loop are one of those interesting cases of 2nd tier 90's bands that don't quite slot easily into a pure shoegaze, noise, pop, or rock genre. Maybe a bit similar to Swervedriver in that regard. So they probably don't get their due compared to the Slowdives, Rides, MBVs of the world (but, let's face it, those are much better). But nonetheless, new Loop is a good thing.

You may be right. I think she's good, maybe even great. But the unique praise she gets as some sort of amazing generational songwriter has always seemed a bit too elevated. She surely benefits from her associations with Hollywood pallies. There are probably a dozen singer songwriters in her class from her generation as good. Give me someone with a unique voice and some thorniness like Kirsten Hirsch over her easy listening AOR.

Yeah, darling is a good word. Not saying he's not deserving of some remembrance, but how many times do we need to go to that well. The list of others who have passed who deserve a little more celebration is long. Roky is a good example. Easily more important than DJ musically from 13th floor elevators to work with Okkervil River. Elliott Smith also comes to mind. You can actually hear the influence of his sound in many contemporary artists.

DJ seems to get a disproportionately large amount of tribute relative to his music output. Is it more about his battling mental illness or celebrating his outsider artist status? Do people actually listen to him, or tributes by others to him, today?

Yoshimi is great of course but when's the last time you listened to it front to back? Parts of it have not aged very well. American Head is mostly low key, with better modern production and it holds together like a cohesive album for the first time in a long time for them.

I'm just against any 100% "my way is the right way, the only way" thinking. If that is "reactionary", so be it. The Left has dug in and turned into religious zealots over any questioning of their stances--even when there is agreement over the broader points. And this is in large part why Trump is going to win again.
