Is it possible that it has already peaked/reached saturation point? Songs that have been lingering around for what seems like forever, such as Imagine Dragons-Radioactive and Capital Cities-Safe and Sound might end up getting more spins than Get Lucky in the summer months...
I'm pretty sure "When I'm Gone" AKA the "Cups Song" from Pitch Perfect will be sung and done by kids & teens everywhere as a summer song/trend this year.
Has Half Moon Run released their album in the US yet? The whole album is a great album for summer. Full Circle is my favourite song on it.
The ties between Noel Gallagher and Jake Bugg are pretty close...
He's a young guy with an 'old' sound. I thought most of his fans were quite young. Now I'm curious about what else is in your Granma's collection?
Great book on this topic: Body Piercing Saved My Life: Inside the Phenomenon of Christian Rock It is maybe getting a bit out of date (2006) but if I remember correctly there is quite a bit about Sufjan in it.
I'm enjoying The Last Bison lately and their style that is a bit darker and more orchestral than most other folk-pop bands.
Mumford and Sons member Ben Lovett's Communion record label has led me to some of my current favorite acts.
I've been enjoying the Windows 8 ad with the Kishi Bashi song, "Bright Whites" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBmtde_XNBs I've heard his live shows are unreal. Here's a taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgqAmZHkkTg
Why the down-votes to this? Just curious about the reasons.
This one is my favorite this week. It tells a good story, with nice shots, great b-boying and a good song. Defnitiely worth the 5 1/2 minutes of your time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9-Lwpgfd1E
I commented about them in a Summer Songs post and people thought I was spamming. An Awesome Wave is set to hit North America, Sept. 18th and is a definite possibility to win the Mercury Prize- so Alt-J won't be unknown for long. My favorite album of the year!
The Ben Howard cover of it is more up my alley.
I'm going to have Alt-J An Awesome Wave on repeat this summer! http://soundcloud.com/alt-j/sets/an-awesome-wave/ They are playing LA, San Fran, Chicago, NYC, Brooklyn in early August.
Alt-J's An Awesome Wave really is awesome. Prepare for this tidal wave that started in the UK to arrive on US shores soon! Listen on soundcloud for now. http://soundcloud.com/alt-j/sets/an-awesome-wave/
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes-Man on Fire -might be the one that bottles up this year's mood for a lot of people.
I'd give a thumbs up to Capital Cities-Kangaroo Court, though l still listen to Safe and Sound more often. It was one of my favorite songs of the summer of 2011.
It was on sale when it first came out but it's now 7.99 British pounds for the digital download through fairsharemusic.com
You can listen to the whole album on soundcloud.com and buy the download from fairsharemusic.com
"Call Me Maybe"cover worth checking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPU8V-nvUEk
I love that whole album! Hopefully word of mouth recommendations about it does the trick for people to check it out since I don't think it is being released officially in North America until September.
Best cover I've seen in a while is Ben Howard's doing Call Me Maybe. Amazing what he does to that song! He can't keep a straight face either 'cause the lyrics are so ridiculous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPU8V-nvUEk
I like the energy in Charlie Winston's cover better. Cute video too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiuqWBWkDwA
My favorite so far is An Awesome Wave by alt-J Have a listen here: http://soundcloud.com/alt-j/sets/an-awesome-wave/
I really like St. Lucia-Before the Dive that came out this week. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmsyXRw3KuI
I like Ben Howard's cover of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Men2J9uebI
I'm really getting into Eugene McGuinness's music lately. Great video too.
I have a soft spot for animated videos. Bombay Bicycle Club just put out a pretty cool one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgvBmEmtF-I&feature=share
Charlie Winston and Medi have a great little cover of Black Keys-Lonely Boy that came out this week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiuqWBWkDwA
My favorite is Dog is Dead-Christmas Wrapping (The Waitresses Cover) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W24fqkwOSzg Free download from their website dogisdead.co.uk
This is a good one that came out last week too. Rich Aucoin-It http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkuWgXhzxg4&feature=player_embedded How many movie references can you catch in it?
Here's two I enjoyed this week: Little Tybee- Boxcar Fair (awesome puppets) http://vimeo.com/32183353 and Ben Howard- Only Love (surprise flash mob) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-g0Uvt61Ow&feature=youtu.be
I keep hoping that people will eventually catch on to the amazing Gotye album, Making Mirrors. HUGE in Australia for good reason.
If you're going to put Ed Sheeran at #27, then Ben Howard-Every Kingdom should have been pretty much near the top. Somewhat comparable styles of music but the quality of Ben Howard and Every Kingdom goes way beyond.
My favorite video of the week: Hollerado- Good Day at the Races http://youtu.be/nvhFeAXq7GA
I love that song! I think people are starting to catch on to it.
This song's got me dancing lately: http://youtu.be/NI9EmaruT0s Hit #7 in UK charts a week ago. Crazy-fun video too.
