I am a huge KV fan but there is something about this that leaves you wanting. Just does not come across very well live. His voice is mixed too much up front or something.
Is it just me?
Our country is in big time trouble. Hatred, judgment, and outrage at anyone unlike us will destroy us and this nation. Social media and outside-looking in judgment and shaming is fostering more and more hatred. Self-preserving pride and a complete lack of self-realization that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".
"Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' " - 1 Peter 5:5
Only a pure and selfless humility can turn things around. One Day IT will come.
Thanks for writing this article Chris. Was just playing my three kids some DC Talk last week ("Heavenbound")....and they were not to excited, instead opting to go back the much over-played Rend Collective, and Toby Mac.
Needless to say, the history of "Christian" music is certainly a very interesting one. As you alluded to, I have also avoided Lauren Daigle in the past (aside from my wife's prodding), instead opting to listen to more "Indie" oriented Christian artists such as Josh Garrels, John Mark McMillan, and Beautiful Eulogy. I get annoyed by the cookie cutter mentality of CCM. I would much rather listen to someone authentic who like me, is very real about the struggles even though they are Christians.
"In recent months, I don’t think I’ve heard an album as downright pleasant and comforting as this one." --- This is exactly what I need right now amid the craziness of life of my mid-40's! Takes me back to my jam band roots. Just get me out of my own head space for a bit.
Cannot wait to hear "Vide Noir" in its entirety. These guys are way too good to ignore...and yet P4K didn't even review "Strange Tails" in 2015. I go back to this album all the time as the flow is outstanding. Like your friend, I can let some LH play on Spotify all day at my desk.
Remember Go West Young Man very well.
My first concert my parents took me to was DC Talk opening for Degarmo & Key. Was a whole new world...."Spinnin' Round".
But I cannot forget also going to the church lead program outlining all the evils of rock music. ACDC ("Antichrist Devil's Children) or WASP (We are Satan's people). They fed us a lie that only backfired and made us want to know more about music.
But as a believer, i know one thing...Legalism always pushes people away from the real truth.
Excellent piece. Think you have captured the essence of what makes TWOD so amazing and yet unique better than any before.
Also...Wagonwheel Blues is basically a Kurt Vile album with Granduciel on vocals.
Agree! Started to hit play on Spotify, heard one second and hit stop. Had to stop. Got the vinyl arriving on 8/25 too.
Not giving in, not giving in, not giving in...
Ok, I gave in. Damn!
