My last listen i just skipped pt 1, low lights, and facts. no vinyl press/cd burner/tidal playlist creation needed and it really cleans up the flow of the album. no need for a perm when a simple trim will do...
1. Yeezus 2. MBDTF 3. 808s ?. The Life of Pablo (current guess) 4. Late Registration 5. Graduation 7. College Dropout
if it's a straight cover of a previously released song you don't need permission. just need to pay the writer and publisher on a per song/dl basis. samples are different
I like the new single enough, but his and ezra's songwriting styles seem to compliment each other's very well. curious (and worried) how each will do on their own
I paid money to see just alt-j and had a similar experience. Was fairly close to the stage and Literally everyone around me was talking. Some bro two rows up was "freestyling" over their "sick beats". Not even joking...
Did anyone legitimately think they were going away forever? I didn't doubt their intentions but even (especially?) with the whole "last show/5 last shows/film/3xLP" thing it felt like they'd come back to this project eventually. Thought it would more like 10-15 years, but still.
just in case you or anyone else hasn't read this... http://gimmefacts.com/
Very excited for this to be my first fest of 2016! Lineup is almost too good...won't get to discover much new music this year.
Open Mike Eagle - A Special Episode Of Mick Jenkins - Wave(s) (I think hes described it as an EP but it might have been released as a tape) Clark - Flame Rave Lotic - Heterocetera And as others have said: Mac, Nao, Thundercat (especially), Nicholas Jaar if that counts.
My dad "won" a Squier Strat signed by the 5 (I think) members of cobra starship them and I figured I'd hold on to it in case they got popular and I could sell it to a superfan. Well one day I popped two strings on my SG and needed to play so I used the signed guitar and now it has 3.5 signatures on it.
For the record (draft 3/???) 1. Kendrick Lamar 2. Father John Misty 3. Sufjan Stevens 4. Deafheaven 5. Vince Staples 6. Jaime XX 7. Beach House (DC) 8. Grimes 9. Earl 10. The Districts Nothing after 6 is final...Have like 50 honorables so I'll leave them out
I'm convinced that all the good reviews is some sort of elaborate joke
The Neighborhood song "Afraid" has some of the worst lyrics of all time and is super annoying. They play it all the time on local ALT ROCK radio (my office-mate likes the station). I saw them live a couple years ago (at a festival with no set overlaps) and they were very meh. Sweater Weather is a fantastic title and a very listenable song though!
One of my favorite bands (Streetlight Manifesto) was/is signed to Victory and essentially told fans to steal their music cause they weren't gonna get paid for it unless you handed them cash at a show. Also Victory wouldn't let the singer/main songwriter of the group release a solo acoustic version of their album. heres what they posted a couple years back: http://streetlightmanifesto.com/streetlight-manifesto-proudly-boycotts-itself/
and some quizzes! and slide picture things and maybeee stories with only GIFs
Imma let you finish, but.... King Park
music for slow motion montages of people at a club
Maybe the whole concept album thing turns people off? Shame cause Empty Days and Letters are two of the best albums in the genre. Wasn't too crazy about the new one after my first listen, but the second half is pretty dope
Wish they didn't edit down the interview, but cool article about that song if you're in to semi-technical stuff http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/doers/2013/01/justin_bieber_s_thought_of_you_producer_ariel_rechtshaid_explains_how_he.html
This band is pretty great glad you started covering them
Just FYI, the mechanical license required to release a cover song (either for profit or not for profit) is compulsory. Anyone can release a taytay song cover as long as her camp gets the 9.1 cents per sale or download/.00000whatever per stream. In this case it seems like she's fine with him just releasing it which id guess would negate the need for any license but give her the power to pull the whole thing if she changes her mind about it being cool.
good read. kinda related...a couple years ago someone posted a yahoo question about his effects and he replied with not only the gear but the presets he used on certain songs
Man, such a great venue. Didn't realize that Middle East owned the building... wonder what's gonna happen to the space.
Thanks for this list. I ended up seeing Benjamin Booker last night over Belle and Sebastian/Tycho based on this write up and thought he was absolutely incredible
Hah I thought the SBTRKT thing was some sort of fucked up monkey
I enjoy soundcloud for what it is, but gotta say the interface is garbage for finding specific tracks. Like, mp3 player from 2002 bad
Kinda bummed this has a fall/end of summer release date. FIDLAR (along with MVOTC and Yeezus) was my go-to for summer of 2013. Man, good times...
There's a tweet in between the top two about a shirt he used to wear a lot. Decent possibility that he was referring to a shirt with "OFWGKTA" on it and not the actual collective Heres those two tweets in new context: "I ALWAYS HAD A SICK SHIRT I WISH I STILL HAD THAT CHEETAH SHIRT THAT WAS COOL AND THAT PURPLE BUTTON UP I LOVED THAT SHIRT SO MUCH... although its no more, those 7 letters are forever."
This is really disappointing. I know he's been performing with a band lately, but cmon I'm sure there are plenty of broke jazz artists who would be down to tour with him.
Please apologize to Lil B! Last thing the rockets need right now is a cursed player!
I still haven't gotten over how they removed the star button. Sure, it's nice to save albums instead of making playlists for each one, but that feature shouldn't have straight up replaced the star. Having to add it to the Starred Playlist suckz.
Number of people who care that Hozier isn't on soundcloud? Maybe like 2 or 3
I think Jesus Christ is the most overrated Brand New song by far- I'd probably place it around the middle of my favorite songs on Devil and God. That said, it's still a great song.
Having spent several hours with my friend, his truck, and his "Driving my Truck Somewhere" country playlist I generally agree. Although apparently some people are 'in' on the dumb lyrics- kinda like how people on this site promote/enjoy Swag Rap. I can put up with modern country for 20-45 minutes before I start feeling sick.
Good article, but there's a huge difference between a naive joke that could possibly have some humorous merit in the right context and the tweet Lauren shared
Hes still mildly popular in Houston. http://www.fpsf.com/#!programmation=artist$welcome-to-houston/53 Listed above Scarface, Lil Flip, and Lil Keke, but below all the real heavy hitters (Bun, Z-Ro, Devin, etc) Plus everyone knows 281 is a fake ass area code (fake as in unoriginal... not literally unreal)
You get something like 2 hours upload time for free. If you pay you get more time and more insight into who is listening/liking/sharing your music. Also stuff like being able to 'pin' a song to the top of your page and whatnot. For me, soundcloud has always felt more like a music community with focus on the creation side than simply a streaming site, even if it has been shifting toward the later in the last couple years. The lack of payment probably makes it easier for them to look the other way when it comes to the unliscened samples
Not to sound like someone's mom, but this is more disappointing than sad. RIP
Still bummed about Channel Orange. GKMC got an official vinyl release, so this probably will too.
