Come to Life Love Pablo but finally, here it is, a solo Kanye album worthy of following Yeezus and his best since that record.
I stand by EVERYTHING. EXCEPT implying artists like Phoebe Bridgers/Clario are female Elliott Smiths. They’re soooo not. Cause if a member of Boygenius was tragically found dead with two stab wounds and their BF was like “uuuh nah nah…she killed herself”…that dude would’ve been riiiiiigghtfully arrested and GUESS WHOSE GOIN TO JAIL TONIGHT
My fav show (just finished season 3 of my rewatch) and just got the master sword in BOTW the other day. This is all a confirmed mf vibe.
My G.O.O.D. Version of DONDA (13 tracks and under an hour) is still being finalized but boy oh boy it’s coming out wonderfully.
GO OFF KINGS Saying you’re not gonna listen to something is the easiest, most pretentious way to have an opinion on something without ever having to interact with it. Its for lazy losers. It’s boring, pathetic, and the most popular thing to do online this past decade and you can FOH with that nonsense. Imagine you were having a convo at work about a TV show and some human booger jumped in like “I’ve never seen it and I will never watch!!” like they’re above it even tho you didn’t even ask them. Then gtf away from the water cooler, Dave, you insufferable prick, we’re talking about Westworld.
not a Drake stan but timescreamer is right and you all need to accept it
If you hated the Armed, you’ll love the new Turnstile. And that’s not a diss because I too am one of those people.
Great way to reveal you only listen to country approved by hip P4K whites. nah, First Margo LP, Guitar Song, Traveller, so many more. It’s a great record but who u foolin?
Pageant Material is great too although a little more country, which may turn off some.
Oh shit here we go….. Kacey, Little Simz and Amyl?! Can’t fuckin wait. My September girls who do so much!!!!
Sorry to spit in the face of your very sincere apology. I genuinely do appreciate it and apologize for spitting back with such vigor. I’’m just the last person on Earth (and esp on here) who would or should be critiquing/criticizing anyone for HOW they say something lol. I’m the master at being terrible at that. I just couldn’t get over how someone took me saying that Dua Lipa has a fanbase of mostly white women as a blaming women or anti-women thing in the slightest. You wanna talk about white fragility? wowee there ya go. I can’t even mention white women even though my initial comment was about intersectionality in modern journalism and feminism and how we protect certain (!) women from verbal violence before we protect black women from physical abuse when it comes to holding artists accountable. R Kelly had sex slaves but he was able to keep touring after cause of who his victims were. Compared to say Pinegrove or Ryan Adams. There is a reason why the majority of DaBaby’s “cancellation” so far is merely just dropping him off festivals…it’s so our precious rich white people won’t have to hear him possibly say something offensive. He can still TOUR though even if he’s slugging women who record him at a show that is going on while the country is on COVID lockdown…and release music AND feature on a Dua Lipa song! That was all fine till he said a no no in front of sheltered whites on drugs in the sun.
Loved her last two releases and was hoping this would be her breakthrough/masterwork (cause 19 songs is a lot but the singles were so diverse) and now based on this review, seems like it. Can’t wait!!!
“Ummm literally how dare you imply white women have anything to do with this or anything bad after your multiple comment rant railing against men?” Sorry, let me just post the 500th comment on here about how men suck again. Keep this place nice and boring like you all like.
It’s not how you said it. It’s that you twisted the point for cheap votes like that guy above said. Leave your online cynicism at home. I hate this place. People project their cynical online BS on me all the time whether I am right or wrong. At least you’re not like WS, constantly projecting an inverse version of themselves on me, saying I have “an axe to grind” with the opposite sex because I criticize them on here a lot? Hmm that person a little familiar to you all? Yeah thought so. People like that on here who literally criticize everyone on here except white women (like themselves) are just as bad as music dudes who think men can do no wrong.
You don’t wanna hear the 15th female Elliott Smith rip off from the past two years? Woooooooow misogynist
this is like when all those indie millennials said Moonrise Kingdom was the best Wes movie when it came out. Yikes! Just because it was first you saw in theaters?
Oh I’m well aware but that wasn’t really my point so I am just clarifying. As much as I used to shit on white women on here, it was mainly just because the racism and fragility of white men being addressed on here is always, thankfully, kinda a given. I don’t have to worry about that not being addressed on here. And usually it will be more insightful than anything I can say or joke about. If I’m being really honest, the reason this thread has riled me up so much and why I haven’t shut up is because this kinda like low key racist attitude by indie white dudes on here towards black culture (both in articles and the comments!!) is why I don’t really surf sites like these anymore and am often inactive. The constant general condescension towards POC artists, people, and culture on here (by 99% white dudes) where they take everything concerning things like hip hop/R&B less seriously than anything done by a white person whispering into a Shure and hold them to different standards both as people and artists has grown really tiresome.
Dude whaaaaat? I’m convinced it will be hardcores Nevermind
I mean…He’s using a rapist as one. Fuck that and fuck his dumb mom.
Nah, I see what you’re saying and I honestly lol’d really hard but nah. Wasn’t trying to imply It’s their fault for being offended by it. They should be. It’s offensive. What DaBaby said was gross. It’s the fact that no one cared until that was the case that is the problem. But when there is a homophobia that ONLY affects non white people, that’s fine in our culture. No one minds that, they shrug it off like Sandro above and go “oh that’s THEIR culture” wink wink that’s hip hop. Hence why I went off on that person above considering the whole point of the initial comment was that no one cares about physical violence (let alone verbal violence like homophobic hate speech) against POC and it’s only when an artists behavior begins to affect white people that they are cancelled by people in comment sections like these and the (predom white) people who write the majority of BS Internet articles. End of rant/opinion. Hope you’re well WS !!
fuckin watch me. This is a Kanye thread ain’t it? if you think I’m gonna let someone say I said something nauseatingly stupid in my mouth so they can get cheap upvotes based on my rep around here, no way. Taking away from that take that I insinuated, or that anyone would, that homophobia only affects whites is truly an unhinged interpretation from someone in the miserable depths of social media psychosis.
TL;DR for the original commenter and all the other people who hate reading things in full unless they can find a passage to take issue with: I didn’t say it only homophobia only affects white people, a truly insane take and perception of what I said….It’s that people/the Internet/and the media only do when it lands on fragile white ears.
“Because it’s hip hop ya dingus” Love the insulation here. There’s plenty of black music that isn’t homophobic. Even hippity hop!
Yeah exactly my point. You’re twisting phrases and putting words in my mouth that were very clearly not being insulated. You were REALLY reaching for something to be offended about and you twisted my point to do so. What I meant, and which remains true, is that these things (obviously) affect all LGBTQ people but no one seemed to want to tackle homophobia in rap music (or a homophobic rappers in general) unless they’re white (see Eminem) or have gotten involved with an artist with a predominantly white audience. Da Baby was always a homophobe, just no one cared until he kept being one after making a song with Dua Lipa, an extremely white woman with a predominantly white woman fan base. And we all know it is a much bigger crime to The Internet and the media to offend a white woman’s sensibilities than to bruise a black woman’s face. And that’s wrong.
How insanely stupid are some people to think the point of my comment, or even that I was implying, was that there are no black queer people LMAO?! Based on YOUR comment apparently there’s no queer Asian or Spanish people? Just black & white (which is how I presume you see everything isn’t it?) See I can spin stuff like an idiot too!
It’s one thing to preach like forgiveness and not making people pariahs and even bringing one out (which is the logic he hides behind) but when you’re constantly surrounding yourself with terrible people who do terrible things, you clearly just are now coat tailing the new public parish because the public at large doesn’t care about Kanye and his (now) wack music to make him one again for the 27th times again. It’s honestly pathetic. Also you guys hear Jail Pt 3? Never thought a Kanye song would have a Ryan Adams feature.
line from my cut verse from DONDA: my takes are hotter than ye’s/can’t believe it’s the day/ the new Turnstile record is better than Kanye’s. HEEEEEH?
being cute = just gaslighting People, especially writers online, want the power but not the responsibility of being ethically consistent. When it works, it works and it’s all fine to them but when they try to exercise that power and it DOESN’T stick, even if it’s just not as much as they want it to, suddenly they don’t have a power and cancel culture isn’t real and what are you talking about? I never even tried that and even if I did it clearly didn’t work! I am powerless! The true move of cowards which makes sense because the definition of a coward is someone who writes and critiques an art that they’re too scared to create themselves.
Sorry but I will never get over this hypocrisy. Especially when I have read article after article trying to both cancel this album for having those guests on it and then within the next paragraph saying how this album is proof cancel culture isn’t real. It’s real and often necessary but these media outlets sound more schizophrenic than Kanye with how they constantly contradicting themselves.
so called online progressives really tipping their hand with this one and showing their true priorities. Kanye was publicly crucified for interrupting a white woman onstage. Imagine if Kanye or an artist like him smacked one instead and it was caught on camera? GUESS WHO IS GOING TO JAIL TONIIIIIIGHT
Not sure what is more disturbing, the Kanye inclusion of those three artists or that every single article I read about Donda mentions how DaBaby is a pariah for saying something homophobic onstage (which a rapper has NEVER done before as we all know) instead of you know…punching a black woman in the face on camera. Or touring during a pandemic. I guess verbal violence against progressive whites will always matter more to the public and the media than actual, recorded violence against black women. Unless they’re already famous like Rihanna of course. Oh, and the album is too long.
that’s ok, I decided I wasn’t ready for it anyway when I learned it was movie length and not album length.
What has been a bigger blow to the culture at large? Losing Lee or gaining Donda?
“Has the song changed yet? I cannot tell. This is basically ASMR” - me on the lawn during a Phoebe Bridgers show
Cool now no one will be able to hear a word she sings lmao
that first tweet esp the “hope they turn the TVs off at the bar when you play” is such an unreal ether. I haven’t seen a burn so good in ages, I’m shocked no one here is focusing on that alone.
DaBaby punched a black woman in the face on camera and got minor controversy and still kept performing through a pandemic. He said something homophobic though and now is off the Lollapalooza lineup. I stand by thinking that is fucked up and wrong and shows where the priorities of most white neoliberal online types lie. (Spoiler alert: it certainly has nothing to do with actually caring about black women or culture in general…until it impedes on their culture and Dua Lipa). I liked his music but if assaulting a woman isn’t grounds for cancellation, idk what is.
yeah for anyone who has any sort of video game system, you should get the new Tony Hawk game. It’s the best.
