Idk I’m not a big fan of the single. I dodged the discourse around it on here a little but I’m too curious what you all think. I loved the first two albums and that video/song was light and fun but just kind of irksome to me.
I’m all for “going toward the light” and writing happier songs. I like the new direction. I like the sound. But at the end of an unprecedented time in human history, I’m sorry but the whole point of the Solar Power song/video is just Lorde being like “I’m rich. I’m hot. My life is great. We party in the sun on the beach“ which not only is the complete antithesis of the song Royals (a song that resonated with people because it was against songs with the same lyrical substance as SP) but also kind of the LAST thing anyone is trying to hear right now. Maybe talk about how good life is but maybe not how your life WAS and IS and will be for her. Like ok cool glad you had a cool pandemic on the beach with your other rich friends, Lorde. The rest of us lost people we loved, our minds, or best case a year of our lives. Countries around the world are still being decimated by it. We were all trapped in our homes, millions in tiny prison apartments. Millions are still working remotely and miserable and that’s if they’re lucky enough to have a job and stable income.
So the last thing I need to hear or see right now is a rich person stunt on how good their life is after her lillywhite ass made a career out of shitting on rappers and artists of color for doing the same thing. But I guess it’s only cool if white women do it. Pass.

Taylor used dating several high profile men to continue her supernova to stardom and it worked like a charm. She wrote songs about all of them and it was honestly genius. Only reason Taylor is mad is because she’s bi like I said last thread and she wants to dispel these notions before she comes out for her next PR move.
