Maryland says no thanks! In fact people in Western Maryland hate our "socialist" state government so much they actually want to secede and join West Virgina.
Same here. I have countless GBs of vaporwave that I never listened to but downloaded from that old vaporwave website (forget what it's called). But really nothing could top my twin entries to the genre: this and 2814's "Birth of a New Day"
Right there with you. I was having trouble making a top 10 list, only like 5 or 6 were definites. With the pandemic and everything I just returned to all my old favorites. My Spotify wrapped would have looked the exact same in 2005 as it did this year (except I apparently listed to more Young Thug than I thought).
Not sure if they were too late but Arca's KiCK series would definitely be up here. I'm really into ii right now (its the most immediately a collection of songs, but iii is real grower, still need to dig into iiii and iiiii). I'm surprised Black Country, New Roads didn't make the cut, that's my AOTY. I'd also include Deafheaven, The World is a Beautiful Place and Damon Albarn's low-key great new album. Otherwise can't complain with a greaat list and very deservedly high ranking for Turnstile.
He talked about his production company and all the directors he thought might do a great job — and these were big names and people he’d worked with.
Is Raekwon suggesting Scorsese or Tarantino might have been interested (according to Leo)?
Are composers allowed multiple entries? We could almost have an exclusive Jonny list of nominations at this point.
I agree. But I'm glad Arca's spreading it out over 3 albums, not just 1 super long one that we have to edit down ourselves.
We actually just saw Paula Cole rerecord "I Don't Want to Wait" so Dawson's Creek could finally get the song it deserves on streaming.
I'm ready for this to be an episode of "The Other Two". They'll think of something way funnier and snarkier than I could here.
Is this like when the Stonecutters left to form The Ancient Mystic Society of No Homers to avoid Homer Simpson?
You don't know when to keep your mouth shut... do you, Saxy boy?
Also El Guincho (almost definitely), maybe even OPN, James Blake and if she goes full pop, Travis Scott. But Arca would be the most exciting!
I know Scott Aukerman reads Stereogum, so I guess we're getting another ep of U Talking U2 soon.
The version I have is some sort of fan edit, and sounded really good (better than this TBH). Anyone have further info on that version? I think it was from either the green plastic radiohead fansite or atease.web
I'm glad "Junior Dad" gets it's due. Just like Jason mentioned, I love that song, even though I hate everything else here. Why couldn't the whole album have been this spiritual?
Really digging the new Strange Ranger. Their new mixtape is pretty cool all around, but "It's You" is the standout. But what does a "mixtape" for a band even mean?
I have to admit I learned about these guys through the Spotify "Discover Weekly" playlist. But they are now easily my most listened to artist I discovered there. Am is so great from front to back. Great interview, looking forward to the new album!
They play "Seven Nation Army" at Penn State football games and Baltimore Ravens games (the only I know for sure). You don't get more mainstream than the NFL. I'm just glad Jack is back to shredding. (I'd imagine OSU plays it too)
When are we gonna get a Tobias Jesso Jr sophmore album? I come back to his debut whenever his name pops up for these pop star collaborations and am always happy with what I hear.
I saw someone with a Smash Mouth bumper sticker the other day, glad to know their long national nightmare is over.
I loved that Big Boi album when I came out, but listening to it more recently it does sound very much of that era. Though some of those tracks "Daddy Fat Sax" and "General Patton" still sound unique. I think their reappraisal has more to do with how Big Boi's later albums are kinda meh. I hate the skits, especially that one at the beginning of a track, don't make me scrub 30 secs forward!
It's not a horror specific podcast, but Blank Check is currently going through the movies of John Carpenter. So at least a few eps will fit your needs.
That Interpol regrade is egregious, they just had to pick one album to drive controversy and clicks. I guess I'm a little surprised (but really happy) that Trail of Dead's 10.0 for Source Tags wasn't changed. I always thought they felt a little weird it got that score. Especially since they didn't rank it "that" highly in their decadal retrospective lists.
Really cool song. Getting ECCOJAMS vibes from the sample (except not pitch shifted). Genuine question, how much does it cost for the label to clear this sample for him?
My order: Blood, Master, Phantom, Boogie, Magnolia, Drunk, Hard, Vice
Can someone tellme why Smash Mouth felt the need to defend MGK in the 'Gums instagram post about this? https://i.imgur.com/WTJVYxu.jpg
I agree on the score. I return to the Only God Forgives one very regularly, but rarely to the Drive one. OTOH the movie is a bit of a mess (albeit a very interesting one), I still much prefer Drive.
Really disappointed this sounds so unfunny, with all the talent involved. Sounds like we're better off just watching Vox Lux again if we want to understand pop fame.
The only exception being a particularly dreary, cloudy day.
Maybe Drake can sample him on the next record
I'm going to out on a limb, `Love and Theft` is probably my favorite Dylan album. It's certainly the one I listen to the most. "Mississippi" is one of my favorite songs by him too. I saw someone else disparage the sequencing while I completely disagree. I like how he alternates the blues rock stompers with the more contemplative ballads so we're always a little off kilter and can appreciate the differences here. I liked the production on TOOM, but here and ever since Dylan just sounds amazing. Like we're right there in the room with him. He could have been a world class producer if the whole singer/songwriter thing didn't work out.
Unfortunately if you give the leaders of the IOC enough money you can get the Olympics (see Sochi a beach resort "given" the Winter games). I don't disagree with you though, the CCP does not deserve the positive recognition from the world stage (again), but unfortunately that's how it is. Also, I can't be the only one to be really surprised that there's already another Olympics in a few months.
Yeah it's great. It's really the only time I've actually cared about something going really high in the charts because it could set a precedent for pop singers taking left turns and being rewarded for it.
Perfect time for a collaboration with Johns Hopkins Hospital which has its own psychedelic therapy research . This song sounds cool too!
I have to thank the other website for highlighting this album a few years ago, and I absolutely love it. "Cowboy Movie" is such a jam. I see where Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, and tons of other 2000s indie bands come from. Not surprised critics hated it, it has kinship with those post-Pet Sounds Beach Boys albums where Brian tried to do something new. Now if Mr Crosby would just stfu about Phoebe Bridgers then we could just more fully enjoy this album for the classic it is.
"Hitler Wears Hermes" is a stupid title, everyone should know that Hugo Boss made the Nazi uniform.
I've never heard anyone have anything good to say about Leno.
