Absolutely this. I know it's one of the go-to responses for "cover that's better than the original," but I don't even agree with THAT. Cash's version is definitely fantastic, but the original will always be... fantastic-plus.
Can't lie friends, this got me misty-eyed. Really, really love everything they're doing right now.
Absolutely lost my shit hearing Danny Brown say the words "Gilbert Gottfried?!"
He's always looked the part of whatever role he's most active in. Right now he is full-on "comics writer guy" and holy HELL has he committed to the look. (I know he says that staying skinny/poster-boy-attractive was adverse for his mental health, so I fully support him lookin' however he wants!)
Am I the only one who prefers Do You Love Her Now? He still slaps, of course.
You are absolutely correct. I was scanning the tracklist for "Murphy" not "Donkey." Quite foolish of me.
I love that this movie is so inextricably linked to the very concept of having A-list celebrities voicing animated characters that the stars are all billed on the cover art for a compilation album where none of them actually appear. Perfect.
Saw Channel Tres opening for Vince back in March and was - without a doubt - the most impressive "never heard of this guy" opening act I've seen in a long, long time. He performs with his back up dancers and every song was choreographed! Also met the guy outside the venue after the show and he was super friendly. Instant fan.
Holy shit it's been a good week.
Caught Jaden at a festival last year. I wouldn't call his set "good" but it was sure as shit energetic and entertaining. And his music, also not necessarily "good," was at least very out there.
I think the quieter and/or sadder material on Coloring Book still works really well. "Summer Friends" is mournful and pretty and still sticks with me.
Would also like to submit: Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain
I'm going to say since this is *technically* a new release with tweaks here and there, all of this should be fair game for 2019 EOY. Hell, EOD too while we're at it. What a fascinating project, both content-wise *and* context-wise.
I'm so glad I was at home when this dropped. There is nothing I wouldn't have dropped immediately for this. Non-zero chance I would've walked out on my responsibilities as a pallbearer for new Jai Paul. Jai is so special. This is great news for fans. Hope this brings him closure.
Mountain farmer Freddie is not a Freddie I knew I needed.
Not Jonah. Arguably even better. https://i.redd.it/crpf9js04fu11.jpg
Bradford needs to act in a Safdie Brothers movie STAT.
She said she wants to (gently and intimately) fuck me with my (well-pressed linen) uniform ON!
SOPHIE for Charli XCX is a HELL of a replacement. Entirely on board. Cannot wait to get complete tonal whiplash between every single one of these sets.
As always, I’m floored by how The Lonely Island continue to get fantastic production for their fantastic penis songs.
Even as their music has gotten less exciting, The Black Keys' videos have stayed consistently funny in a dry, deadpan way. It's almost eight years old now (jesus) but the "Lonely Boy" video is a masterpiece of goofy, charming simplicity.
If I recall, "Psycho" placed highly on this list for that very reason!
The skeletons will pull your hair Up but NOT out
It's not at the Rose Bowl but on the ground next to it. They have festivals there quite regularly. Arroyo Seco was there the past few years and was actually a pretty good time. Caught Neil Young + The Real there last year.
I visited the actual RMS Queen Mary ship last weekend, so, naturally, had to listen to ATTQM in full on the way home. Holy shit it still bangs. I think it always will. Boeckner and Krug are easily in my pantheon of best co-frontmen of all time.
Truly shocked that the kids aren't jamming out to a song that contains the line "hey kids, spelling is fun!"
His alternate covers are always fantastic. Most of them I like just as much, if not sometimes more, than the official artwork. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81agJCrWBZL._SX355_.jpg
I'm sorry he feels this way, and I know he's been struggling pretty severely with his mental health. That said, he did make a very, very big deal about how important it was for him to sign to RCA last year. He even used the comparison that even "Apple had to get out of the garage at some point," which is self-important at best. And if his last two releases really were "from hell," I still thought they were both pretty good and one of them did hit #1... I really do hope he gets better. This is still a very weird look.
I've long said that this album is the best thing ever created in Plano, TX and I'm 100% including myself.
Neil Young: The American south has a devastating history of abusing black bodies and it will continue to poison the entire country until it is meaningfully addressed. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Whatever, shut up, we have a good time!
So glad he's got JPEGMAFIA in the mix. Peggy's a *direct* descendant. No Veteran without XXX.
The Party Supplies beat on that track is SO good that I get a little steamed when I think about how they never broke any bigger than making tracks for Action Bronson to eternally rap about fucking a plate of tuna tartare or whatever.
To be fair, who among us could ever hope to be "worthy of the Woodstock Brand name"?
Bill Hader's quick scene where he's into recreationally dying and Joanna Newsom is his EMT is absolutely gold.
Assuming you're making a POPSTAR reference, it's wild to think that movie came out even *before* this dude was everywhere. And yet motherfuckers still pop up with goofy-ass helmets to pack out the Coachella Sahara tent year-in and year-out.
It's good that they have their principles. Tyga and Brown are definitely no-bueno dudes. But is anyone else even remotely "confused" and/or "disappointed" by Marshmello choosing to work with them? Does anything about "Mello" or any of these EDM guys suggest they have the integrity to not affiliate with people like this?
No one should be able to say "let's rock" in this day and age unless they're three feet tall and wearing a red suit.
If this works out then twigs can add "matchmaking horny portland dudes" to her considerable list of talents.
It doesn't sound quite as Home Depot as Lo/Hi. Maybe they were aiming for Lowe's on this one.
